Estimation of Heavy Metal Concentrations in Solid Particles Residue Collected from Baghdad Street Dust

The study have been conducted to estimated the  concentration levels of heavy metals  in samples  of solid particles residue which collected randomly from street dust that produced  with neglected municipality wastes  in Baghdad City. Samples were collecting from services and dwelling street in Elmashtal region in Resapha side and Albaya regions in Karkh side at Baghdad City, regions characterized with different activities, a qualities analysis for the compounds doing with the following tests: 1- By using soil sieves was fragmented and limited the particulates of dust especially the dangerous types which associated with dust compounds and air pollution. 2- Digesting and analyzing of samples have been

Pollution Assessment of Surface and Drainage Water by Heavy Elements in Al Ahrar District, Wasit Governorate, Iraq

The study area lies in Wasit governorate south west Kut city, where Al Ahdeb oil field is located to the south of Al Ahrar district. The present study deals with assessment of heavy metals pollution in water by collecting eleven water samples (five samples from drainage and six samples from surface water) in 5th of December 2016. The water samples analysis of heavy elements in the study area shown that water is polluted with high concentration of (Pb, Cd) elements, while the concentration of (Cu, Fe, Zn) in water samples are within the permissible limits of both World Health Organization, and Iraqi standards and there are no hazard effects from these elements. The study detected some diseases that inju

DETERMINATION OF SERUM TRACE ELEMENTSMAGNESIUM, COPPER, ZINC, AND SELENIUM IN ASTHMATIC PATIENTS BY ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROPHOTOMETRY

The aim of this study is to evaluate the levels of trace elements Magnesium (Mg), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), and Selenium (Se) in blood sera of asthmatic patients by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The concentrations of Mg, Cu, and Zn have been determined by Flame Atomic Absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS), and Se with flameless Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (GFAAS). The study involves (55) asthmatic patients as study group and (28) subjects as control from both genders. Serum levels of Mg, Cu, and Se were significantly higher (p<0.001 for all) in patients when compared with healthy subjects, while Zn level was relatively significant (p<0.05). Our observations confirm the efficacy and applicability of (AAS) in

Enteral intake of Aluminum Sulphate in acidic medium enhances absorption and alters tissue content of other trace elements in male albino rats

Background: Aluminium (Al) intoxication was recognised as a causal agent in p a t i ent s undergoing haemodialysis and then was linked to Alzheimer's disease. Nevertheless, environmental pollution with Al is mainly v i a drinking water, particularly when acidic rain falls on Al containing soil and bedrock. In addition, aluminium utens i l s are widely used for cooking. Therefore, an increasing concern is emerging for the role of pH in the absorption of aluminium from ingested food.
Materials and methods: The objective of this study was to establish the effect of acidification with1 ml/dL of concentrated acetic acid on the absorption of aluminium from a 5 mM a l u mi n i u m sulphate\ solution taken orally

Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination in Urban Soils of selected areas in Hilla City, Babylon, Iraq

Modern cities suffer from heavy metal pollution due to urban expansion and population increase. Heavy metals have a great impact on human health. The objective is to determine the contamination level of heavy metals Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Zr and Pb at industrial and residential in Hilla city. The mean concentration of Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Zr and Pb enrichment factors of the investigated industrial soils are 3.43, 0.74, 6.45, 3.95, 5.60, 3.44, 1.17 and 11.44, respectively. The means of Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Zr and Pb in residential soils are 3.30, 1.09, 11.40, 0.94, 2.08, 5.39, 0.9 and 3.6, respectively. The I-geo mean values of heavy elements in the industrial area may be ordered in the following: Mn> Pb> Ni>

Determination Oxidant - Antioxidant Enzyme and some Trace Elements in Breast Cancer in Baghdad City

level of effectiveness of Glutathione - S - Transferees (GST), Glutathione peroxides (GPX),Malondialdehyde (MDA) the product of lipid peroxidation and some trace elements ( zinc, seleinum, iron ,copper ) had been measured in sera of (50) women with breast disease.which had been divided to : Control group (25),The first group (A) benign breast tumors (25),the second group (B) breast cancer (25). The results showed a clear moral high level of Glutathione - S - Transferees (GST), Glutathione peroxidase (GPX) , and Malondialdehyde (MDA) level in breast cancer group while a slight increase were observed in the levels of these enzymes and(MDA) in benign breast group. A significant reduction was evident in the levels of selenium and zinc

Determination of Cefalexin by Direct (UV- Vis) Spectrophotometer and Indirect(Flame Atomic Absorption) Technique

A new method for the determination of the drug cefalexin in some Pharmaceuticals using (UV-Vis) and  indirect Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (FAAS) , Fe III should forms a chelating complex with cefalexin (CEX –Fe III) at pH (1-8) and the best pH for the formation of (CEX –Fe III) chelating complex was (2) .The complex extracted with Methanol  and  Dimethy-Sulphoxide .The mole-ratio method has been used to determine the structure of chelate (CEX - Fe III) and found to be 2:1 LM ( Ligand : Metal.) .

Keywords : Cefalexin , chelating complex.

Heavy Metal Resistance of Aeromonas hydrophila Isolated from Raw and Drinking Water in Baghdad City

A total of 551 water samples (drinking and raw water) were collected In this study, Aeromonas.hydrophila, were detected by biochemical tests and PCR (16s rRNA gene). The results of identification showed that A.hydrophila had recovery rate 63 isolates (49.21%). The results revealed that all A.hydrophila isolates were PCR positive or the 16S rRNA gene and the results of sequencing showed that two isolates of A.hydrophila(local isolates) had percentage similarities 100% with A. hydrophila ATCC 7966 in GenBank database .All strains had a minimal Inhibitory Concentration(MIC) distribution pattern for lead cetate rranged (900-1200 μg/ml), and mercury chloride ranged (40-80 μg /ml).

Determination of some Optimum Conditions for Bioremediation of Some Heavy Metals by Saccharomyces cerevisiae: Determination of some Optimum Conditions for Bioremediation of Some Heavy Metals by Saccharomyces cerevisiae

The study aimed to determine of some Optimum conditions for bioremediation and removing of seven mineral elements included hexavalent chromium, nickel, cobalt, cadmium, lead, iron and copper as either alone or in group by living and heat treated cells of baker’s yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The dried baker's yeast from Aldnaamaya China Company was used in this study. Biochemical tests was used to ensure yeast belonging to S. cerevisiae and then used to remove the mentioned mineral elementes under different conditions which included incubation period, pH, and temperature. It was found that the best of these conditions was 60 minutes for duration of incubation, 6 for pH, 25 ᵒC for temperature. During the study the behavior of living
