هدفت هذه الدراسة الى مدى توافر مهارات التفكير الناقد المتضمنة في أسئلة الملاحظة والمتوقعة في كتاب الاجتماعيات للصف الثاني المتوسط، استخدم المنهج الوصفي لتحليل المحتوى، ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة أعدت أداة لمهارات التفكير الناقد تضمنت ستة مهارات رئيسة وهي: مهارة التفسير، التحليل، التقويم، الاستنتاج، الشرح، تنظيم الذات ,إذ تم تحليل أسئلة نهاية الفصول خاصة في كتاب الثاني المتوسط في ضوء مهارات التفكير الناقد وبعد الانتهاء من التحليل والتأكد من صدق الاداة وذلك بالاعتماد على صدق الخبراء والمختصين، وتم التحقق من ثبات التحليل وذلك من خلال الاتفاق مع محلل خارجي ومع الباحثة نفسها عبر الزمن. واعتمدت الباحثة على الوسائل الاحصائية منها معادلة كوبر واختبار مربع كأي للتعرف على الفروق بين متغيرات الأداة (التكرار الملاحظ والتكرار المتوقع) والتكرارات والنسب المئوية، وحصل كتاب الاجتماعيات للصف الثاني المتوسط على النسب المئوية في الأسئلة الملاحظة (15،13%, 24،04%, 15،13%, 13،06%, 13،06%, 19،58%) على التوالي، وحصل كتاب الاجتماعيات للصف الثاني المتوسط على النسب المئوية في الأسئلة المتوقعة (20%,25%, 5% , 20%, 25%, 5%)، ونلاحظ من خلال قيمة كأي المحسوبة لمهارات التفكير الناقد (40،67) عند مستوى (0،05) ودرجة حرية (5) وقيمة كأي الجدولية (11،07)، وهذا يدل على شدة انخفاض التوافق بين الأسئلة الملاحظة والمتوقعة مما يعني عدم وجود الأسئلة التي تقيس العمليات العليا للتفكير الناقد عند الطلبة ,وبعدها خرجت الدراسة ببعض الاستنتاجات والتوصيات والمقترحات.
