Influence of Water Stress on Expression of the X95950 Gene and Several Cellular Callus Components in Violet-Treated Sunflower Varieties
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>The research was conducted between 2017 and 2019 at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences and Laboratory of Plant Tissue Culture for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad. One experiment used a totally random design. The experiment examined the effects of PEG (Polyethylene glycol) at concentrations of 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8% on the development of three sunflower types (Ishaqi-1, Aqmar, and AL-Haja) exposed to UV-C rays for 40 minutes as a result of the growing of the juvenile peduncle outside the live body. The aim of the study was to better comprehend the physiological and biochemical changes caused by water stress on the callus of several sunflower varieties. The X95950 gene was amplified using qPCR technology to investigate drought tolerance gene expression and callus cell content of glutathione, ascorbic acid, and APX enzyme as indicators to determine the effect of PEG on callus tissue cells in the nutrient medium. The expression of the X95950 gene was influenced by water stress. It was particularly expressed in Ishaqi-1 at 4 and 8% PEG concentrations, with values of 1.64 and 1.01, respectively. The glutathione content and activity of the enzyme ascorbate peroxidase, which were 56.49 mol-1 and 0.149 mg-1 protein absorption units, differed significantly among the varieties. PEG concentrations significantly influenced glutathione content, with 8% achieving the highest average of 50.07 mol g-1 and 4% achieving the highest averages of ascorbic acid and ascorbate peroxidase enzyme activity of 2.462 mg 100 g-1 and 0.138 mg-1 protein absorption units, respectively. The interaction was considerable, with the maximum average glutathione callus content in the Aqmar variety reaching 69.60 mol g-1 at 6% PEG concentration. At 4% PEG concentration, the Aqmar variety outperformed in terms of APX enzyme efficacy, reaching 0.238 mg-1 absorption units of protein.</p>

Factors Influence on the yield of Bacterial Cellulose of Kombucha (Khubdat Humza)
...Show More Authors

Kombucha(Khubdat Humza) is composed of yeast and acetic acid bacteria especially, Acetobacter xylinum which forms a cellulose pellicle on tea broth. Kombucha(Khubdat Humza) produces bacterial cellulose pellicles, with unique purity and fine structure. It can be used in many forms, such as an emulsifier, stabilizer, dispersing agent, thickener and gelling agent but these are generally subsidiary to its most important use of holding on to water. Recently, bacterial cellulose is used in many special applications such as a scaffold for tissue engineering of cartilages and blood vessels, also for artificial skin for temporary covering of wounds, as well as its used in the clothing industry. The yield of cellulose produced were investiga

Influence of Iron Filing Waste on the Performance of Warm Mix Asphalt
...Show More Authors

Recently, interest in the use of projectiles in research on recycling waste materials for construction applications has grown. Using recycled materials for the construction of asphalt concrete pavement, in the meantime, has become a topic of research due to its significant benefits, such as cost savings and reduced environmental impacts. This study reports on comprehensive experimental research conducted using a typical mechanical milling waste, iron filing waste (IFW), as an alternative fine aggregate for warm mix asphalt (WMA) for pavement wearing surface applications. A type of IFW from a local machine workshop was used to replace the conventional fine aggregate, fine natural sand (FNS), at percentages of 25%, 50% 75%, and 100% b

Influence of Nd and Ce doping on the structural, optical and electrical properties of V2O5 thin films
...Show More Authors

Nano-structural of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) thin films were
deposited by chemical spray pyrolysis technique (CSPT). Nd and Ce
doped vanadium oxide films were prepared, adding Neodymium
chloride (NdCl3) and ceric sulfate (Ce(SO4)2) of 3% in separate
solution. These precursor solutions were used to deposit un-doped
V2O5 and doped with Nd and Ce films on the p-type Si (111) and
glass substrate at 250°C. The structural, optical and electrical
properties were investigated. The X-ray diffraction study revealed a
polycrystalline nature of the orthorhombic structure with the
preferred orientation of (010) with nano-grains. Atomic force
microscopy (AFM) was used to characterize the morphology of the
films. Un-do

Polymorphism in SNP rs972283 of the KLF14 gene and genetic disposition to peptic ulcer
...Show More Authors

Introduction and Aim: Kruppel Like Factor 14 (KLF14) gene plays an important role in metabolic illnesses and is also involved in the regulation of many other biological processes. This study's objective was to determine whether or not the KLF14 single-nucleotide-polymorphism (SNP) known as rs972283 was linked to an increased risk of peptic ulcer disease in the population that was being investigated.   Materials and Methods: Participants in this study included 71 people who had been diagnosed with peptic ulcers and 50 people who were considered to be healthy controls. In order to genotype the KLF14 SNP rs972283, an amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR) was carried out, and the PCR results were

Measuring The Impact of Water Scarcity on Agricultural Economic Development in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Water provision is sensitive to climate change, and agricultural production and food supply are sensitive to water availability. Water scarcity affects food security and agricultural economic development through changes in agricultural production and changes in the composition of produced goods. Recent droughts also led to a decrease in the volume of water allocated to agriculture, which led to a decrease in total agricultural production and exports, and this has subsequent impacts on food security and economic development. The research aimed to measure the impact of water scarcity on agricultural economic development for the period 1990-2022. The research included three behavioral equations with three endogenous variables: the cult
