Detection and sequencing of blaVEB-1 gene in clinical isolates of Proteus mirabilis Isolates from Baghdad City`s hospitals
...Show More Authors

In Present study, 25 clinical isolates of Proteus spp. of clinical samples, urine, wounds and burns collected from different hospitals in Baghdad city, all isolates were identified as Proteus mirabilis using different bacteriological media, biochemical assays and Vitek-2 system. It was found that 15 (60%) isolates were identifying as P. mirabilis. The susceptibility of P. mirabilis isolates to cefotaxime was 66.6 %, while to ceftazidime was 20%. Extended spectrum β-lactamses producing Proteus was 30.7 %. DNA of 5 isolates of P. mirabilis was extracted and detection for blaVEB-1 gene by using multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Results showed that the presence of this gene in all tested isolates, as an important indicator for increasing risk of extended spectrum beta lacatmases resistant P. mirabilis isolates against antimicrobial agents due to its spread recently in Middle and Far East of Asia. Sequencing of DNA nucleotides was carried out with automated sequencer (Macrogen/ Korea) and confirmed that 3 isolates of P. mirabilis have blaVEB-1 gene, while one isolate has blaVEB-3 gene

Deregulation of autophagy flux and gene expression induced by tobacco smoke among Iraqi smokers.
...Show More Authors

: Cigarette smoking is a lifestyle behavior that causes significant adverse health effects. Cigarette smoke contains chemicals, many of which are lead to the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can lead to apoptosis and autophagy. To estimate the association of Cigarette smoking with the autophagy and immunity, technology of real time polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) for gene expression of (LC3A, LC3B, LC3C, myd88) was used. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique was utilized to measurement the amount of TNF-α protein. The ratios of LC3A/LC3B and LC3B/LC3C were calculated to estimate the autophagy flux. The results indicate the expression of LC3B, LC3C and Myd88 genes in smokers is increased significantly (p

The Association of Prothrombin Gene Mutations and Cytomegalovirus Infection with Abortion Among Iraqi Women
...Show More Authors

Abortion is categorized as the termination of conception caused by the failure or removal of the embryo from the uterus before the conclusion of pregnancy. Microorganisms and genetic factors are two of the many factors associated with abortion. Cytomegalovirus is a widespread congenital virus infection pathogen that affects a wide variety of people. The prothrombin gene is one of the essential causes that trigger blood clotting and the function of abortion women, therefore the aim of the study is to detect and associate Cytomegalovirus and prothrombin gene mutation (Gene ID: 14061 in NCBI) with abortion through genetic and immunological methods. Five ml of whole blood was collected from an intravenous puncture and divided into two tubes,

Eugenol is found in essential oils of many plants. It belongs to a class of naturally occurring phenolic monoterpenoids, chemically it is an allyl chain-substituted guaiacol. A study was conducted on the compound of Eugenol, which included different studies. The first study was the determination of eugenol in body fluid, which includes serum, saliva and urine has been found the highest concentration was in urine then serum and saliva. The second study was the hematological study. Complete blood count was accomplished on the volunteers alredy administrated with eugenol contained mouthwash the analysis was accomplished before and after the mouth wash use. The result observed a slightly negative results and was not that significant, wh

...Show More Authors

The objective of this study was to investigate and compare among five different methods of contraception including combined oral contraceptive pills (COC), Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA), copper Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD), vaginal spermicides and male condom used in Hawler City through estimate of their effect, relative failure rate, percentage of use, adherence and compliance and adverse effects of each contraceptive method. In order to reach to these aims, a retrospective study was conducted in Hawler City in Azadi Health Care Center over a period of 6 months from 22th November, 2010 to 15th May, 2011 during which data collection and subjects follow up for 3 months had been achieved. Over the past ten years, tumor markers have played an increasingly important role in clinicaloncology. This trend is expected to continue as technology advances and our knowledge of thehuman body and disease processes grows. In the treatment of cancer, tumor markers are widelyused for a variety of purposes, including screening, selecting a management strategy, determining the prognosis, and post-therapy follow-up. A comprehensive of the fundamentalsof pathophysiology and identification strategies for each specific malignancy is necessary fortheir prudent application in clinical practice. Oncology's use of cancer biomarkers hastransformed the way that cancer is treated, and led to notable improvements in patient outcomesand cancer tre
