Comparative Evaluation of Early Pregnancy Outcomes Following Ovulation Induction with Letrozole Versus Clomiphene Citrate: Evidence from a Prospective Iraqi Cohort Study
...Show More Authors

Objectives: To compare early pregnancy outcomes, including miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, and congenital anomalies, among women who conceived following ovulation induction with letrozole or clomiphene citrate. Methods: A prospective comparative observational study was conducted at Al-Elwiya Maternity Teaching Hospital and a private clinic in Baghdad, Iraq, from March 2023 to December 2024. One hundred infertile women aged 21–35 years who conceived after ovulation induction with either letrozole (5 mg/day) or clomiphene citrate (100 mg/day) for five days (cycle days 3–7) were enrolled. Participants were followed through early pregnancy with serial sonography at 6, 8–11, and 18–20 weeks of gestation. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23, and a p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Adverse pregnancy outcomes occurred in 19.0% of women in the clomiphene group and 8.6% in the letrozole group, a difference that was not statistically significant (χ²(1)=2.342, p=0.126). Normal singleton pregnancies were more frequent with letrozole (91.4%) than with clomiphene (81.0%). The odds ratio for adverse outcomes in the clomiphene group was 2.49 (95% CI: 0.75–8.26). Twin pregnancies were observed only in the clomiphene group (7.1%). Congenital anomalies were rare and comparable between groups. Conclusion: Although not statistically significant, letrozole was associated with fewer early pregnancy complications and a trend toward safer outcomes compared with clomiphene citrate. Both agents remain effective for ovulation induction, but letrozole may offer a more favorable safety profile for women at risk of early pregnancy loss.

Evaluation of Radial Nerve Injury Associated with Closed Humeral Shaft Fracture by Early Pre-operative Ultrasonic Evaluation and Correlation with Surgical Exploration
...Show More Authors

Traumatic radial nerve injury in humeral shaft fracture is the most common traumatic nerve injury in long-bone fracture, with overall prevalence 2-18%, ranging from traction to complete transection. Spontaneous recovery may reach 88%. The aim of the study is to assess the sensitivity & specificity of the ultrasound to detect the radial nerve injury and to see if this can be used as a diagnostic test. This is a prospective study on 17 adult patients with a closed fracture of the humeral shaft, dividing into two groups, the first group of 7 patients had signs and symptoms of radial nerve palsy at presentation and the second group of 10 patients had intact radial nerve function was considered as a control group. All these patients had at leas

Evaluation of Concrete Material Properties at Early Age
...Show More Authors

This article investigates the development of the following material properties of concrete with time: compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and fracture energy. These properties were determined at seven different hydration ages (18 h, 30 h, 48 h, 72 h, 7 days, 14 days, 28 days) for four pure cement concrete mixes totaling 336 specimens tested throughout the study. Experimental data obtained were used to assess the relationship of the above properties with the concrete compressive strength and how these relationships are affected with age. Further, this study investigates prediction models available in literature and recommendations are made for models that are found suitable for application to early age conc

Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality, complicating 3-14% of all pregnancies. Although the etiology remains unknown, placental hypoperfusion and diffuse endothelial cell injury are considered to be the central pathological process; many endocrinological changes have been linked to the etiology of preeclampsia including parathyroid hormone and calcium level. Objective: to compare serum parathyroid hormone and total serum calcium levels in mild and severe preeclampsia versus normal pregnancy. Patients and methods: Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) level and total serum calcium level were measured in thirty normotensive pregnant women and thirty women with mild preeclampsia and thi

Preparation and Characterization of Topical Letrozole Nanoemulsion for Breast Cancer
...Show More Authors

Letrozole (LZL) is a non-steroidal competitive aromatase enzyme system inhibitor. The aim of this study is to improve the permeation of LZL through the skin by preparing as nanoemulsion using various numbers of oils, surfactants and co-surfactant with deionized water. Based on solubility studies, mixtures of oleic acid oil and tween 80/ transcutol p as surfactant/co-surfactant (Smix) in different percentages were used to prepare nanoemulsions (NS). Therefore, 9 formulae of (o/w) LZL NS were formulated, then pseudo-ternary phase diagram was used as a useful tool to evaluate the NS domain at Smix ratios: 1:1, 2:1 and 3:1.

Non Vascularized Bone Graft versus Core Decompression in Treatment of Early Stages of Non Traumatic Hip Osteonecrosis
...Show More Authors

A vascular necrosis (AVN) is defined as cellular death of bone components due to interruption of the blood supply; the bone structures then collapse, resulting in bone destruction, pain, and loss of joint function. AVN is associated with numerous conditions and usually involves the epiphysis of long bones, such as the femoral head. In clinical practice, AVN is most commonly encountered in the hip. Early diagnosis and appropriate intervention can delay the need for joint replacement. However, most patients present late in the disease course. Without treatment, the process is almost always progressive, leading to joint destruction within 5 years. Treatment of a vascular necrosis depends mainly on early diagnosis which mainly based on clinical
