Detection and prediction of Sitophilus oryzae infestations in triticale via visible and near-infrared spectral signatures
...Show More Authors

Triticale is a hybrid of wheat and rye grown for use as animal feed. In Florida, due to its soft coat, triticale is highly vulnerable to Sitophilus oryzae L. (rice weevil) and there is interest in development of methods to detect early-instar larvae so that infestations can be targeted before they become economically damaging. The objective of this study was to develop prediction models of the infestation degree for triticale seed infested with rice weevils of different growth stages. Spectral signatures were tested as a method to detect rice weevils in triticale seed. Groups of seeds at 11 different levels (degrees) of infestation, 0–62%, were obtained by combining different ratios of infested and uninfested seeds. A spectrophotometer was used to measure reflectance between 400 and 2500 nm wavelength for seeds that had been infested at different levels with six different growth stages from egg to adult. The reflectance data were analyzed by several generalized linear regression and classification methods. Different degrees of infestation were particularly well correlated with reflectances in the 400–409 nm range and other wavelengths up to 967 nm, although later growth stages could be detected more accurately than early infestation. Stepwise variable selection produced the lowest mean square differences and yielded a high R² value (0.988) for the 4th instars, pupae and adults inside the seed. Models were developed to predict the level of infestation in triticale by rice weevils of different growth stages. Overall, this study showed a great potential of using reflectance spectral signatures for detection of the level of infestation of triticale seed by rice weevils of different growth stages

The Relationship of Aesthetics in the Art of Interior Architecture and Architectural Criticism
...Show More Authors

The concept of aesthetics is one of the postmodern propositions, and it is one of the branches of philosophy that examines beauty, its standards and theories, and it is a holistic concept that includes several concepts, including the beautiful, the ugly, and the sublime.
The concept of aesthetics dealt with several studies in general (and in the field of architecture in particular), and the problem of aesthetics is in the blurring of the relationship between aesthetics and architectural criticism, based on the research hypothesis which states that there is a relationship between aesthetics and architectural criticism. The importance of the research in accommodating aesthetic standards and bases of evaluation that increases the possi

Role of single and mixed culture of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia ficaria in utilization of petroleum wastes of Dora- refineries.
...Show More Authors

The ability of single and mixed bacterial culture to utilize Dora-refineries petroleum wastes was compared. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Serratia ficaria mixed culture consumed the wastes better than the single bacterial cultures. The highest log. number of viable cells in mixed culture was 6.842 , while in single bacterial cultures it was 6.683 and 5.631, respectively. after 3 days in API medium containing the refinery wastes. The effect of some environmental conditions on the degradation of petroleum wastes was studied included aeration , NaCl concentration , pH and temperature. The growth of bacteria in the agitated culture was higher than stagnant culture the log. of cell no. was 6.021 in the first culture. The h

Heavy Metals Concentration in Commercial Rice Available at Erbil City Markets, Iraq and Soaking Effects
...Show More Authors

Heavy metal (HM) pollution has long been a significant source of environmental deterioration and a problem for the safety of food. Iraqis prefer rice over any other food, and since heavy metals have a direct impact on health, their traces in rice have drawn particular attention. Before cooking rice, it is usual in Iraq to wash and soak it. Some 55 varieties of imported and local rice were sampled from Erbil city markets in 2022 with the aim of determining the concentration of As, Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb before and after soaking. Standard procedure of acid digestions was applied on the raw and soaked samples. The solutions were analyzed using ICPE-9820 Shimadzu. The mean concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb (in mg/kg) in the rice samples bef

This paper aims to discuss and analyse the role and importance of implementing industrial Policy to promote industry and enhance economic development in developing countries. The paper discusses the economic justifications for using industrial policy as well as the criticisms leveled against it, for this purpose it analyses the ideas of two different approaches to industrial policy. The first held by the neo-liberals in the USA , who oppose the use of industrial policy and emphasise the role of the market in attaining economic development. The second, represented by many economists who support the use of industrial policy to promote industry and accelerate economic development, they justify their stand by pointing to the negative

technique and compared with 20 apparently healthy blood donors.
Results: The study revealed a significant decreasing in IgG levels in glioma as compare to meningioma
and control. The concentration of two other serum immunoglobulins and complement in both
meningioma and glioma show no significant differences with those in control group.
