Comparison of familial and sporadic multiple sclerosis in Iraqi patients

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the increasing prevalent neurologic disorders. Epidemiologic and family studies implicate genetic and environmental factors in determining
susceptibility to MS. The exact effect of the former is intended for investigation in our study.
Objectives: The objective of the study is to compare the demographic features, clinical presenting features, and clinical course between familial and sporadic cases of MS.
Materials and Methods: this is a retrospective cohort study conducted in Multiple Sclerosis Center in the Medical City in Baghdad. The records of the MS center in Baghdad Teaching Hospital were surveyed, and data from 13 patients with positive family history of MS

Determination of Enzymatic Antioxidant in Iraqi Patients with Chronic Gastritis

Infection of the gastric mucosa with Helicobacter pylori is strongly associated with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer. Helicobacter pylori virulence factors include a variety of proteins that are involved in its pathogenesis, such as VacA and CagA. Another group of virulence factors is clearly important for colonization of H.pylori in the gastric mucosa. These include urease, motility factors (flagellin), and Superoxide dismutase (SOD). Because of this organism's microaerophilic nature and the increased levels of reactive oxygen in the infected host, we expect that other factors involved in the response to oxidative stress are likely to be required for virulence. Superoxide dismutase is a near

Adopting the green value chain to achieve sustainable competitive advantage: study to views of a sample from Ur General Company for Engineering Industries in Dhi Qar

In light of the developments and intense competition that the world has witnessed, the need to search for a sustainable and continuous competitive advantage for economic units has emerged, as the economic units must not lose sight of their interest in the activities they perform to achieve that advantage, and it can be said that the goal of the research is to identify the theoretical dimensions of the green value chain represented by: (Green research and development, green design, green manufacturing, green marketing, green services) and the dimensions of the sustainable competitive advantage represented by (quality, creativity, innovation, cost, response to the customer), as well as identifyi

Incidence of Haemophilus influenzae type b among children less than 5 years and resistance to antibiotics in Iraq.

Back ground: Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord that known as meninges. It is the major cause of morbidity and mortality among infants and children less than the age of 5 years.
Objectives: To determine Haemophilus influenzae type b meningitis incidence in children aged less than 5 years and choice a drug for treatment
Patients and methods: During period from Febraury 2012 to first March 2013 ,250 Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens were collected from children less than 5 years ,which clinically diagnosed with meningitis ,in several hospitals of Iraq.Microbiological, biochemical, latex agglutination test and antibiotics sensitivity were used to identify and choice the antib

Measurement of Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide, Leptin Hormone, and Lipoprotein (a) In Iraqi Female Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

Back ground:-Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most common forms of inflammatory polyarthritis, with a  prevalence of approximately 0.8% of adults worldwide, Rheumatoid arthritis patients may become disabled within few years if untreated that may lead to permanent disability. Different biomarkers have been assessed for the improved diagnosis of Rheumatoid arthritis, including a wide range of autoantibodies. However, only rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (ACCP) have gained wide acceptance.

Aim of the study to investigate the levels of ACCP, Leptin, and Lipoprotein (a) in females with RA to provide information on possible pathophysiologic mechanisms, and to give re

Efficacy of atorvastatin in treatment of Iraqi obese patients with hypercholesterolemia

ABSTRACTBackground: dyslipidemia plays a crucial rule in the development of cardiovascular disease, which has become the leading cause of death in most developed countries as well as in developing countries (1). The effects of reducing low density lipoprotein – C (LDL-C) concentrations on the prevention of cardiovascular events and stroke have been well reported in many clinical trials. Objectives: Evidence supports the use of statins for lipid modifications in the primary prevention of coronary artery disease, morbidity and mortality. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of atorvastatin in treating dyslipidemia in Iraqi obese patients. Methods: 200 overweight and obese patients with hypercholesterolemia, according to NCEP ATP

Overexpression of HER-2\neu receptor protein in Urinary Bladder Carcinoma, An Immunohistochemical Study.

Background: Bladder carcinoma is one of the most common cancer worldwide, it accounts for 6.5% of all cancers, with highest incidence in industrialized countries .It represents the fourth most common cancer in men and the eighth in women. Bladder carcinoma depends in its pathogenesis on a combination of genetic and environmental factors, these factors produce phenotypic changes that allow normal transitional cells to become cancerous and finally acquire the “malignant phenotype".  Many attempts had been tried to explore the role of some genetic abnormalities encountered in bladder carcinoma. It has indicated that many genetic abnormalities may underline the pathogenesis of cancer evolution of urinary

Validity of serum Toll-like receptor-2 (TLR-2) in women with breast tumor

Background: Toll-like receptor -2 (TLR-2)play important roles in tumor biology; by activation and promotion of tumor cell proliferation, resistance to apoptosis andalso, enhancement of tumor cell invasion and metastasis by regulating metalloproteinase and integrin’s.As toll-like receptors are widely expressed on tumor cells and participatein the initiation and progression of cancer, they may thus serve an important target and have an effective perspective on breast cancer treatment.
Objectives:The aims of the present study was to determine the levels of TLR-2 in the sera of healthy people and patients with benign and malignant breast tumors and also to investigate the validity of using TLR-2 as specific diagnostic markers of breast
