Using Heuristic and Branch and Bound Methods to Solve a Multi-Criteria Machine Scheduling Problem
...Show More Authors

In this paper, we investigate some methods to solve one of the multi-criteria machine scheduling problems. The discussed problem is the total completion time and the total earliness jobs  To solve this problem, some heuristic methods are proposed which provided good results. The Branch and Bound (BAB) method is applied with new suggested upper and lower bounds to solve the discussed problem, which produced exact results for  in a reasonable time.

A New Model Design for Combating COVID -19 Pandemic Based on SVM and CNN Approaches
...Show More Authors

In the current worldwide health crisis produced by coronavirus disease (COVID-19), researchers and medical specialists began looking for new ways to tackle the epidemic. According to recent studies, Machine Learning (ML) has been effectively deployed in the health sector. Medical imaging sources (radiography and computed tomography) have aided in the development of artificial intelligence(AI) strategies to tackle the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, a classical machine learning approach for coronavirus detection from      Computerized Tomography (CT) images was developed. In this study, the convolutional neural network (CNN) model for feature extraction and support vector machine (SVM) for the classification of axial

Design and Creating a Specific Neutron Irradiation Instrument to Decrease the User’s Radiation Exposure Time
...Show More Authors

A specialized irradiation instrument "created instrument" was  designed and created from various kinds and sizes of available plastic household-waste materials. In addition, a neutron beam collimator with a lid was designed  and implemented. The collimator is with dimensions of 25 cm in height and 10 cm in inner diameter, while the lid dimensions are 11.5 cm height and outer diameter of 9.9 cm  to perfectly match the inner diameter of the collimator with the possibility of movement (opening and closing), and also the shielding of the radioactive 241Am/Be neutron source with a recent activity of 37.5 mCi.

To investigate the efficiency of the "created instrument", ten hydrogenous material samples (ordinary p

Production Load–bearing Concrete Masonry Units by Using Recycled Waste Crushed Clay Bricks; A Review
...Show More Authors

There are serious environmental problems in all countries of the world, due to the waste material such as crushed clay bricks (CCB) and in huge quantities resulting from the demolition of buildings. In order to reduce the effects of this problem as well as to preserve natural resources, it is possible to work on recycling (CCB) and to use it in the manufacture of environmentally friendly loaded building units by replacing percentages in coarse aggregate by volume. It can be used as a powder and replacing of percentages in cement by weight and study the effect on the physical and mechanical properties of the concrete and the masonry unit. Evaluation of its performance through workability, dry density, compressive strength, thermal conduct

A Comparative Study Using DCT, Delta Modulation, and Double Shift Coding for Compressing Electroencephalogram Data
...Show More Authors

Storing, transferring, and processing high-dimensional electroencephalogram (EGG) signals is a critical challenge. The goal of EEG compression is to remove redundant data in EEG signals. Medical signals like EEG must be of high quality for medical diagnosis. This paper uses a compression system with near-zero Mean Squared Error (MSE) based on Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) and double shift coding for fast and efficient EEG data compression. This paper investigates and compares the use or non-use of delta modulation, which is applied to the transformed and quantized input signal. Double shift coding is applied after mapping the output to positive as a final step. The system performance is tested using EEG data files from the C

Gingival Enlargement Management using Diode Laser 940 nm and Conventional Scalpel Technique (A Comparative Study)
...Show More Authors

Diode lasers are becoming popular in periodontal surgery due to their highly absorption by pigments such as melanin and hemoglobin their weak absorption by water and hydroxyapatite makes them safe to be used around dental hard tissues. Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficiency of diode laser in performing gingivectomy in comparison to conventional scalpel technique in patients with chronic inflammatory enlargement. Materials and methods: Thirty patients were selected for this study. All of them required surgical treatment of gingival enlargements and were randomly divided into two groups: Control group (treated by scalpel and include sixteen patients) and study group (treated with diode laser 940nm and includ

TOTAL ORGANIC CARBON (TOC) PREDICTION FROM RESISTIVITY AND POROSITY LOGS: A CASE STUDY FROM IRAQ
...Show More Authors

The open hole well log data (Resistivity, Sonic, and Gamma Ray) of well X in Euphrates subzone within the Mesopotamian basin are applied to detect the total organic carbon (TOC) of Zubair Formation in the south part of Iraq. The mathematical interpretation of the logs parameters helped in detecting the TOC and source rock productivity. As well, the quantitative interpretation of the logs data leads to assigning to the organic content and source rock intervals identification. The reactions of logs in relation to the increasing of TOC can be detected through logs parameters. By this way, the TOC can be predicted with an increase in gamma-ray, sonic, neutron, and resistivity, as well as a decrease in the density log

Super-twisting based integral sliding mode control applied to a rotary flexible joint robot manipulator
...Show More Authors

In this paper, a single link flexible joint robot is used to evaluate a tracking trajectory control and vibration reduction by a super-twisting integral sliding mode (ST-ISMC). Normally, the system with joint flexibility has inevitably some uncertainties and external disturbances. In conventional sliding mode control, the robustness property is not guaranteed during the reaching phase. This disadvantage is addressed by applying ISMC that eliminates a reaching phase to ensure the robustness from the beginning of a process. To design this controller, the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller is first designed as the nominal control to decide a desired performance for both tracking and vibration responses. Subsequently, discontinuous con
