New Insights Into the Use of hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP in Chronic Coronary Syndromes
...Show More Authors

Background: A noninvasive method of determining the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) is the use of cardiac biomarkers. This study aimed to investigate the use of serum levels of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) and N-terminal pro–B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in determining CAD severity. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 125 participants categorized by coronary angiographic results into 3 groups: group I (no or < 50% stenosis), group II (1 or 2 vessels with ≥ 50% stenosis), and group III (left main stem or ≥ 3 vessels with ≥ 50% obstruction). Serum hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0 and described as percentages, means, medians, and interquartile ranges (Q1–Q3). Receiver operating characteristic curves and relative quality were applied for both biomarkers. Results: Median hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP levels were higher in group III than in groups I and II (P = .001). Both were higher in group II than in group I (P = .001). Receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP effectively discriminated vascular obstruction severity with high sensitivity and specificity. Relative quality testing results showed a slight increase in predictive ability when the 2 biomarkers were combined. Conclusions: Serum hs-cTnI and NT-proBNP levels, combined or separately, can be used to assess CAD severity concerning the number of diseased vessels, which may help improve risk stratification and management strategy selection. The present study aims at assessing the effects of chronic kidney disease (CKD) on thyroid hormone and leptin by evaluating the level of: leptin hormone along with thyroid hormone in CKD patients. The study has been conducted on  70 subjects, 50 patients with an age range between 20-50 years (25  males and 25 females) who were diagnosed to have CKD stage-5, and 20 normal controls whose ages ranged between 20-48 years (10  males and 10 females), who attended  the Nephrology and Transplant Center in Medical City of Baghdad- Iraq from April  2018  to July  2018. The study showed a highly significant (P<0.01) increase in TSH level in CKD patients in comparison with controls. While T3 and T4 levels observed highly significant decrea

Background:  Imaging has a critical role in the diagnosis and evaluation of cardiac diseases, beginning with chest radiography and fluoro-scopy and progressing to coronary angio-graphy, echocardiography, nuclear medicine and recently  multidetector computed tomo-graphy (MDCT) as well as magnetic resonance (MR) imaging

Objective: To highlight the role of Multi-detector CT in the evaluation of coronary artery disease and its importance of being noninvasive diagnostic technique.

Methods: A cross sectional study for 20 patients. Patients were asked to fast 6 hours prior to the examination and the patients with heart rates above 65 beats per minute were given cardio-

THE USE OF AMBIGUOUS IRONY IN ANDALUSIAN POETRY
...Show More Authors

Among the findings of the research are:
1. This type of ambiguity is old in use and was adopted by the Arab poets as a
reaction against hyperbole and as a tendency towards compression of expression that
results in an. amusing suspension through the use of irony. The Andalusian poets
tended to employ this form because it involves interaction and interrogation,
2. Furthermore, it indicates the poet’s insight, talent and skill and it is, therefore,
regarded as a form. Of verse discourse that appeals to the reader, in contrast to
hyperbole.
3. Its presence in Andalusian poetry is evident n eulogy and descriptive poetry and it
held a place of prominence as a poetic form in achieving these purposes.
4. Through i

Embedded advertisement constitutes a special kind of communication. As it performs many important roles such as giving information, highlighting the value of the product, and urging the target consumer to buy it by influencing his/ her behavior using an attractive manner of mind and conscience. Both cinema and television are the most prominent and powerful advertising media that enjoy the interest of all audiences and capture most of the advertising spending. Hence, this leads to

Past Myocardial Infarctions and Gender Predict the LVEF Regardless of the Status of Coronary Collaterals: An AI-Informed Research
...Show More Authors

BACKGROUND: The degree of the development of coronary collaterals is long considered an alternate – that is, a collateral – source of blood supply to an area of the myocardium threatened with vascular ischemia or insufficiency. Hence, the coronary collaterals are beneficial but can also promote harmful (adverse) effects. For instance, the coronary steal effect during the myocardial hyperemia phase and that of restenosis following coronary angioplasty. OBJECTIVES: Our study explores the contribution of coronary collaterals – if any exist – while considering other potential predictors, including demographics and medical history, toward the left ventricular (LV) dysfunction measured through the LV ejection fraction (LVEF). Abstract

Objectives: To assess patients’ knowledge and their adherence to Clopidogrel Therapy Post Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, and to find out the relationship between patients’ knowledge and their adherence to Clopidogrel Therapy Post Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Methodology: A descriptive design was carried out at Al- Nasiriyah Heart Center in Thi-Qar Governorate for the period between May 19th, 2022 to October 25th, 2022. A non-probability sampling was used among (50) patients after their Percutaneous Coronary Intervention. Correlation between paraoxonase-1 arylesterase activities and clopidogrel drug in patients with coronary artery disease
...Show More Authors

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Clopidogrel, antiplatelet drug, has been widely used for management of CAD. Arylesterase, the activity of Paraoxonase-1 (PON-1), is mainly contributed in the biotransformation of clopidogrel to its active thiol form. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of receiving clopidogrel drug on the arylesterase activities in CAD patients. The effect of receiving clopidogrel drug on the antioxidant activity of arylesterase was also monitored by determination of malondialdehyde (MDA) level. Methods: One hundred CAD patients, who were followed-up for 5 days after reciving clopidogrel, and 50 healthy volunteers were included in our study
