Usage of EB-CFRP for Improved Flexural Capacity of Unbonded Post-Tensioned Concrete Members Exposed to Partially Damaged Strands
...Show More Authors

The study presents the performance of flexural strengthening of concrete members exposed to partially unbonded prestressing with a particular emphasis on the amount (0, 14.2, and 28.5%) of cut strands-symmetrical and asymmetrical damage. In addition to examining the influence of cut strands on the remaining capacity of post-tensioned unbonded members and the effectiveness of carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminates restoration, The investigated results on rectangular members subjected to a four-point static bending load based on the composition of the laminate affected the stress of the CFRP, the failure mode, and flexural strength and deflection are covered in this study. The experimental results revealed that the usage of CFRP laminates has a considerable impact on strand strain. In addition to that, the flexural stiffness of strengthened members becomes increasingly significant within the serviceability phases as the damaged strand ratios increase. The EB-CFRP laminates increased the flexural capacity by approximately 13%, which corresponds to strand damage of 14.28% and about 9.5% for 28.57% of strand damage, which represents one of the unique findings in this field. Additionally, semi-empirical equations for forecasting the actual strain of unbonded tendons were presented. The suggested equations are simple to solve and produce precise results. Doi: 10.28991/CEJ-2022-08-06-014 Full Text: PDF

Investigation of plasma characteristics of center region of post cylindrical magnetron sputtering device
...Show More Authors

A d.c. magnetron sputtering system was designed and fabricated. The chamber of this system is consisted from two copper coaxial cylinders. The inner one used as the cathode and the outer one used as anode with magnetic coil located on the outer cylinder (anode). The axial behavior of the magnetic field strength along the cathode surface for various coil current (from 2A to 14A) are shown. The results of this work are investigated by three cylindrical Langmuir probes that have different diameters that are 2.2mm, 1mm, and 0.45mm. The results of these probes show that, there are two Maxwellian electron groups appear in the central region. As well as, the density of electron and ion decreases with increases of magnetic field strengths.

Shear performance of a novel demountable connector for reusable steel-concrete composite structures
...Show More Authors

A novel demountable shear connector is proposed to link a concrete slab to steel sections in a way that resulting steel-concrete composite floor is demountable, i.e. it can be easily dismantled at the end of its service life. The proposed connectors consist of two parts: the first part is a hollow steel tube with internal threads at its lower end. The second part is a compatible partially threaded bolted stud. After linking the stud to the steel section, the hollow steel tube can be fastened over the threaded stud, which create a complete demountable shear connector. The connector is suitable for use in both composite bridges and buildings, and using cast in-situ slabs, precast solid slabs, or hollow-core precast slabs. A series of push-off

Assessing the bond strength of two-layer Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) for pavements
...Show More Authors

Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) is a mass concrete with zero slump consisting of well-graded aggregate, cementitious materials and water. RCC has many advantages over other pavement types, particularly cost and speed of construction. However, it also presents difficulties with high-speed applications related to surface texture and surface evenness. These difficulties have so far restricted the use of RCC to the lower layers of normal roads. This study investigates the possibility of expanding the application of RCC for normal roads and highways by using a two-layer system of roller compacted concrete. The suitability of RCC for such an application depends fundamentally on bond strength between the layers. The bond strength measured by shear

Frequency Domain Analysis for Geometric Nonlinear Seismic Response of Tall Reinforced Concrete Buildings
...Show More Authors

This paper aims to study the second-order geometric nonlinearity effects of P-Delta on the dynamic response of tall reinforced concrete buildings due to a wide range of earthquake ground motion forces, including minor earthquake up to moderate and strong earthquakes. The frequency domain dynamic analysis procedure was used for response assessment. Reinforced concrete building models with different heights up to 50 stories were analyzed. The finite element software ETABS (version 16.0.3) was used to analyze reinforced concrete building models.

The study reveals that the percentage increase in buildings' sway and drift due to P-Delta effects are nearly constant for specific building height irrespective of the seism

Performance-Based Evaluation of Nanomaterials for Enhancing Moisture Damage Resistance in Asphalt Concrete
...Show More Authors

Moisture-induced damage is one of the primary causes of premature distress in asphalt pavements, leading to reduced service life and increased maintenance costs. Although nanomaterials have shown potential in enhancing asphalt performance, the underlying composite interaction mechanisms among nanomaterials, asphalt binder, and aggregate phases under moisture exposure are still not fully understood. In addition, comparative evaluations under consistent experimental conditions remain limited. This study investigates the influence of five nanomaterials: nano-silica (NS), nano-alumina (NA), nano-titanium dioxide (NT), nano-zinc oxide (NZ), and carbon nanotubes (CNT) on the physical and mechanical properties of asphalt binders and mixtur

Assessing the Bearing Capacity of the Strip Footing Resting on the Slope Face
...Show More Authors
Abstract
Infrastructure projects, including buildings, bridges, and towers, in hilly or mountainous areas are frequently constructed on inclined landscapes. This work utilizes finite element limit analysis (FELA) to examine the effect of critical parameters on the ultimate bearing capacity (B.C.) of strip footings (S.F.) situated on slope faces. The analysis examines the impacts of Inclination of the Slope (β), Internal Friction Angle (ϕ), and embedment depth of footing (Df). As the slope angle (β) increased from 10° to 20°, the footing’s ultimate bearing capacity decreased by 55%. Furthermore, the embedded depth shows an important effect on the bearing capacity;
...
