Total no. of patient (100) stool samples were collected, during the period from February to the end of May of 2008, for children under two years old suffering from non-bloody and bloody diarrhea at (Children Welfare Teaching Hospital) in Baghdad. The study evaluates the relationship between etiological agent of diarrhea and sex, age group, type of feeding, presence of blood in stool of the patients. All samples were examined microscopically to identify parasitic agent and serological test for Rotavirus to identify viral infection, also biochemical and serological tested for specimen's culture on different culture media and antibiotic sensitivity test. Results show from 100 cases 64] represents the etiological agent of diarrhea and the most common of this agent was Rotavirus represent (37.5 %), respectively then Entamoeba histolytica (21.9 %), other agents were include Proteus (12.5 %), Enteropathogenic E.coli (10.9 %), Citrobacter braakii (7.8 %), Salmonella typhi (6.3 %), and Giardia lamblia (3.1 %). The remaining 36 isolates represent of unknown etiological agent for another's pathogen. The prevalence ratio of infection in male (75.0 %) was more than in female (25.0 %), in the first year of age especially in the age group (0-6) months (42.2 %). children depending on artificial feeding represent about (57.8 %) higher natural and mixed feeding, the bloody diarrhea associated with Entamoeba histolytica (57.1 %) in contrast to some etiological agent of non-bloody diarrhea. Eleven types of antibiotics were used for sensitivity test show all serotype of Enteropathogenic E.coli and Salmonella typhi are sensitive to Imipenem and Ciprofloxacin. The predominant serotypes of Enteropathogenic E.coli which represent serotype O111 and serotype O125 these strains show resistance to Cefotaxime (CTX), Trimethoprim-sulfamethaxazole (SXT), Ampicillin (AM), Metronidazole (MET), Cefoperazone (CEP), Cefixime (CFM), also the serotype O111 resistance to Gentamicin (CN) represent (45.0 %), while the most resistance of Salmonella was to Amikacin (100.0 %). This may reflect the fact that the increased resistance in older children and adult may be associated with the development of immunity or the loss of receptors for some specific adhesion. In Iraq Rotavirus infection is estimated to account for (10-29 %) in early childhood, While in neighboring countries the rate ranges between (19-46 %). The study show infected males more than female and the highest diarrheal infection was caused by Rotavirus, the Imipenem and Ciprofloxacin antibiotic was the most effective one against pathogenic strains of Enteropathogenic E.coli and Salmonella typhi while all isolates were resistant to Trimethoprim-Sulfamethaxazole, Ampicillin, Metronidazole.
The present study aims at assessing the effects of chronic kidney disease (CKD) on thyroid hormone and leptin by evaluating the level of: leptin hormone along with thyroid hormone in CKD patients. The study has been conducted on 70 subjects, 50 patients with an age range between 20-50 years (25 males and 25 females) who were diagnosed to have CKD stage-5, and 20 normal controls whose ages ranged between 20-48 years (10 males and 10 females), who attended the Nephrology and Transplant Center in Medical City of Baghdad- Iraq from April 2018 to July 2018. The study showed a highly significant (P<0.01) increase in TSH level in CKD patients in comparison with controls. While T3 and T4 levels observed highly significant decrea

A biomarker that provides a quantitative measure of changes in the brain due to AD in the early stages would be useful for early diagnosis of AD, but this would involve dealing with large numbers of people because up to 50% of dementia sufferers do not receive formal diagnosis. Thus, there is a need for accurate, low-cost, and easy to use biomarkers that could be used to detect AD in its early stages. Potentially, electroencephalogram (EEG) based biomarkers can play a vital role in early diagnosis of AD as they can fulfill these needs. This is a cross-sectional study that aims to demon

It is characterized by a wide variety of clinical manifestations and severity of symptoms, making it difficult to manage. A cross-sectional hospital-based genetic study was undertaken with 32 pediatric patients. We recruited 21 males and 11 females diagnosed with GD, with a male-to-female ratio of 1.91:1. The mean age of the study population was 8.79 ± 4.37 years with an age range from 8 months to 17 years. We included patients on clinical evaluation from 2011 to 2019. An enzyme assay test was used to measure β-glucosidase enzyme activity in leukocytes and the GBA gene s
Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common liver disorder globally. The prevalence is 25% worldwide, distributed widely in different populations and regions. The highest rates are reported for the Middle East (32%). Due to modern lifestyles and diet, there has been a persistent increase in the number of NAFLD patients. This increase occurred at the same time where there were also increases in the number of people considered being obese all over the world. By analyzing fatty liver risk factors, studies found that body mass index, one of the most classical epidemiological indexes assessing obesity, was associated with the risk of fatty liver.
Objectives: To assess age, sex, and body

The fabricated nanoparticles at different concentrations were characterized by UV-visible absorption and showed a broad surface Plasmon band at around 520 nm. The FE-SEM images showed the polypropylene fibres highly attached with the spherical AuNPs of diameters around 25 nm over the surfaces of the soaked fibres. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) of pure and treated face masks in AuNPs conform to the characteristics bands for the polypropylene bands. There are some differences

It offers an insight into the etiopathogenesis of diseases and the formulation of personalized treatment regimens. Biochemical and metabolic alterations require innovative therapeutic approaches in polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Trace elements, like copper and zinc, may help treat PCOS due to their relation to metabolism. Objective: The aim of this work was to explore the metabolic impact of copper and zinc supplementation in women with PCOS using state-of-the-art metabolomics technologies. Methods: This study included fifty PCOS patients and fifty healthy subjects. High-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and nuclear magnetic resonance

There is an evidence for a genetic component to Gastro oesophageal reflux disease as supported by familial aggregation of this disease. Aim of the study was to investigate whether certain human leucocyte antigen genes HLA-DRB1 are associated with (GERD).Methods: Patients and controls were prospectively recruited from GIT center at Al-Kindy Teaching Hospital (Baghdad-Iraq) between January 2014 and July 2016. Sixty Iraqi Arab Muslim patients with a history of heartburn and dyspepsia were compared with 100 Iraqi Arab Muslims controls. Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of death worldwide. Ischemic heart disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Lack of blood supply to the brain can cause tissue death if any of the cerebral veins, carotid arteries, or vertebral arteries are blocked. An ischemic stroke describes this type of event. One of the byproducts of methionine metabolism, the demethylation of methionine, is homocysteine, an amino acid that contains sulfur. During myocardial ischemia, the plasma level of homocysteine (Hcy) increases and plays a role in many methylation processes. Hyperhomocysteinemia has only recently been recognized as a major contributor to the increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) owing to its eff
