Assessment of Pollution Linked to Surface-Active Materials and Nutrients in Lotic Ecosystem
...Show More Authors

The Tigris River is one of the main rivers and an important resource for the population of Iraq. The present study aimed to quantify the concentration of surface-active substances in the Tigris River and to investigate the dynamics of this ecosystem. Five sampling sites were selected along the river within Baghdad city (Al-Muthanna Bridge, Al-Greaat Bridge, Al-Sarrafia Bridge, Al-Jadriyah Bridge, and Al-Za'franiya Area) for the period from July 2020 to April 2021. The study examined the relationship between the concentrations of surface-active materials (surfactants, including anionic and nonionic types) and their potential interaction with nutrients—nitrate (NO₃⁻), phosphate (PO₄), and sulfate (SO₄²⁻)—as well as the influence of various physicochemical water parameters on surfactant concentrations. The results of the descriptive analysis of water parameters during the dry and wet seasons showed variations and elevated concentrations of some parameters beyond permissible limits, such as TDS, NO₃⁻, PO₄, SO₄²⁻, and DO. According to the OIP analysis, only Site 2 (Al-Greaat Bridge) was classified as polluted (Class-C4) during the wet season (6.58), while the other sites were categorized as slightly polluted (Class-C3) in both dry and wet seasons. Principal component analysis (PCA) indicated that PO₄, TDS, and NO₃⁻ were the most influential parameters and had a strong positive relationship with anionic surfactants. Regarding temporal variation, higher values of TDS, NO₃⁻, PO₄, SO₄²⁻, and DO were observed during the dry season. This reflects the impact of human activities (agriculture, industrial discharge, and sewage effluents) and natural processes (rainfall, evaporation, and biological activity) on the water quality of the Tigris River. Therefore, the Tigris River faces significant water quality challenges due to both anthropogenic and natural factors. Effective management strategies are essential to mitigate these impacts and protect the health of the river ecosystem and the communities that depend on it. The findings of this study align with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation.

...Show More Authors

In this study, two active galaxies (NGC4725, NGC4639) have been chosen to study their morphological and photometric properties, by using the IRAF ISOPHOTE ELLIPS task with griz-filters. Observations are obtained from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) which reaches now to the DATA Release (DR14). The data reduction of all images (bias and flat field) has been done by SDSS Pipeline. The surface photometric investigation was performed like the magnitude. Together with isophotal contour maps, surface brightness profiles and a bulge/disk decomposition of the images of the galaxies, although the disk position angle, ellipticity, and inclination of the galaxies have been done. Also, the color of galaxies was studied, where chromatic distribution

First-Principles Analysis of Cr-Doped SrTiO3 Perovskite as Optoelectronic Materials
...Show More Authors

This contribution evaluates the influence of Cr doping on the ground state properties of SrTiO3 Perovskite using GGA-PBE approximation. Results of the simulated model infer agreement with the previously published literature. The modification of electronic structure and optical properties due to Cr3+ doping levels in SrTiO3 has been investigated. Structural parameters infer that Cr3+ doping alters the electronic structures of SrTiO3 by shifting the conduction band through lower energies for the Sr and Ti sites. Substituting Ti site by Cr3+ results the energy gap in being eliminated revealing a new electrical case of conducting material for the system. Furthermore, it has been noticed that Cr doping either at Sr or Ti positions could effectiv

INVESTIGATION OF FAST NEURON ATTENUATION COEFFICIENTS FOR SOME IRAQI BUILDING MATERIALS
...Show More Authors

This research aims to improve the radiation shielding properties of polymer-based materials by mixing PVC with locally available building materials. Specifically, two key parameters of fast neutron attenuation (removal cross-section and half-value layer) were studied for composite materials comprising PVC reinforced with common building materials (cement, sand, gypsum and marble) in different proportions (10%, 30% and 50% by weight). To assess their effectiveness as protection against fast neutrons, the macroscopic neutron cross-section was calculated for each composite. Results show that neutron cross-section values are significantly affected by the reinforcement ratios, and that the composite material PVC + 50% gypsum is an effect

A Review of the Asphalt Mixtures Containing Recycled Solid Waste Materials
...Show More Authors

Landfill and incineration are the most common and widely used methods to dispose of solid wastes; both of these techniques are considered the main sources of pollution in the world due to the harmful toxic emissions that are considered an environmental problem. Because of the large areas used by landfills, they are not always considered an economical method. With the increase in the production of solid materials, solid wastes increase the pressure on incinerators and landfills, making the environmental pollution hazard more serious. Instead, these waste materials can be used in some other applications. One of the most important of these applications is asphalt pavements, which are the most used types of pavements in the
