Effect of Sample Weight and Maximum Size on Sieve Analysis of Total Aggregate
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Sample selection means the act of picking a sample from a material that is representative of the whole. This method is just as important as the testing itself. To establish the minimum weight of an aggregate sample, regardless of whether it was taken in the field or in the laboratory, the maximum particle size is the determining factor. It is certain that the weight will be more than the quantity required for testing. A significant factor that affects the weight of the aggregate sample is the amount of precision that is sought for the test. Within the scope of this investigation, total aggregate sample was modeled by employing a multi-linear approximation function for Fuller’s curve. Aggregate particles are classified into classes according to their median diameter, and each class is simulated independently from the others. The root mean square error (RMSE) of the discrepancies between the target and sample curve was analyzed for two selected samples of total aggregate; this analysis was carried out as part of a stochastic analysis that involved one hundred realizations in the sampling process. An equation has been proposed that relate the maximum predicted RMSE with maximum aggregate size and sample weight by predicting the error for any diameter and sample weight through controlling the allowable error, the weight of sample aggregate can be found for each maximum diameter of aggregate. It was found for Iraqi standard the maximum RMSE not exceeded 2.3% for different diameter.</p>

Effect of Size and Location of Square Web Openings on the Entire Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams
...Show More Authors

This paper presents an experimental and numerical study which was carried out to examine the influence of the size and the layout of the web openings on the load carrying capacity and the serviceability of reinforced concrete deep beams. Five full-scale simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams with two large web openings created in shear regions were tested up to failure. The shear span to overall depth ratio was (1.1). Square openings were located symmetrically relative to the midspan section either at the midpoint or at the interior boundaries of the shear span. Two different side dimensions for the square openings were considered, mainly, (200) mm and (230) mm. The strength results proved that the shear capacity of the dee

The Effect of Grain Size-Secondary Electron Emission on Grain Growth in Dusty Plasma
...Show More Authors

The calculation of the charge on an isolated dust grain immersed in plasma with different grain sizes is a challenging one, especially under moderately high plasma temperature when secondary electron emission significant. The discrete charging model is used to calculate the charges of dust grain in dusty plasma. In this model, we included the effect of grain size dependence on secondary electron emission. The results show that the secondary electron emission from the glass dust grains due to energetic electron (40eV) can lead to the small grain to be slightly more positive than the large grain. Under these conditions, the smaller and larger grains would be attracted rather than repelled, which possibly lead to enhanced coagulation rates.

The study effect of weight fraction on thermal and electrical conductivity for unsaturated polyester composite alone and hybrid
...Show More Authors

In this research prepared two composite materials , the first prepared from unsaturated polyester resin (UP) , which is a matrix , and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) , and the second prepared from unsaturated polyester resin and aluminum oxide and copper oxide (CuO) , the two composites materials (Alone and Hybrid) of percentage weight (5,10,15)% . All samples were prepared by hand layup process, and study the electrical and thermal conductivity. The results showed decrease electrical conductivity from (10 - 2.39) ×10-15 for (Up+ Al2O3) and from (10 - 2.06)×10-15 for (Up+ Al2O3+ CuO) .But increase thermal conductivity from( 0.17 - 0.505) for (Up+ Al2O3) and from (0.17 - 0.489) for (Up+ Al2O3+ CuO).

The Effect of Melatonin on Body Weight and the Potential use of Melatonin as an Anti-Obesity Agent
...Show More Authors

Background: obesity is a major global health problem with more than 200 million obese men and almost 300 million obese women. Melatonin is a well-known molecule for its involvement in circadian rhythm regulation and has multiple pathological actions including control of appetite, sleep wake cycle and metabolic syndrome.

Aim: to estimate the effect of melatonin supplements on obese patients on a calorie restricted diet in comparison to patients on lifestyle measures only in the form of weight loss, waist circumference and sleep quality.

Subjects and Method: one hundred patients with body mass index > 24 were collected, fifty patients were starte

Combined effect of fineness modulus and grading zones of fine aggregate on fresh properties and compressive strength of self compacted concrete
...Show More Authors

Self-compacted concrete (SCC) considered as a revolution progress in concrete technology due to its ability for flowing through forms, fusion with reinforcement, compact itself by its weight without using vibrators and economic advantages. This research aims to assess the fresh properties of SCC and study their effect on its compressive strength using different grading zones and different fineness modulus (F.M) of fine aggregate. The fineness modulus used in this study was (2.73, 2.82,2.9& 3.12) for different zones of grading (zone I, zone II& marginal zone(between zone I&II)) according to Iraqi standards (I.Q.S No.45/1984).Twelve mixes were prepared, each mix were tested in fresh state with slump, V-Funnel and L-Box tests, then 72

The aim of the research is to measure the relationship and effect of the application of total production maintenance TPM in the operational strategy, as it is considered one of the most important strategies for the process of restoring production losses because of inefficient equipment. Competitive edge in the global market by upgrading the operational strategies of OS in the application of TPM in those institutions that apply both H-OS-oriented and P-OS-oriented strategies where the strategy has been identified as a critical success factor. The aim of this study is to attempt to consider the application of comprehensive productive maintenance in industrial establishments
