Influence of water-absorbent polymer balls on the structural performance of reinforced concrete beam: An experimental investigation
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>This research investigated the influence of water-absorbent polymer balls (WAPB) on reinforced concrete beams’ structural behavior experimentally. Four self-compacted reinforced concrete beams of identical geometric layouts 150 mm × 200 mm × 1,500 mm, reinforcement details, and compressive strength <inline-formula> <alternatives> <inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="graphic/j_jmbm-2022-0024_eq_001.png"></inline-graphic> <math xmlns:m="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <msubsup> <mrow> <mi>f</mi> </mrow> <mrow> <mtext>c</mtext> </mrow> <mrow> <mo accent="true">′</mo> </mrow> </msubsup> </math> <tex-math>{f}_{\text{c}}^{^{\prime} }</tex-math> </alternatives> </inline-formula> ≈ 50 MPa were castellated. Each beam contained a volume percentage of WAPB that differed from the others, and the considered percentages were V b = 0, 1, 2, and 3%. A static test under two-point loads was adopted to evaluate the structural behavior of the tested beams. The results indicated that the maximum load capacity of the tested beams was increased by 2.0, 3.0, and 7.14% for the volume percentages of 1, 2, and 3%, respectively, as compared to the reference beam (V b = 0%). It was also observed that the impact of V b = 3% was higher than that of the other percentages. For all the tested beams, the mode of failure was a flexural failure that is compatible with the considered preliminary design. The results showed that increasing the percentage of polymer to 3% had a significant effect on the deflection, as the deflection was directly proportioned to the percentage of WAPB.</p>

An Experimental Research on Design and Development Diversified Controllers for Tri-copter Stability Comparison
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>The drones have become the focus of researchers’ attention because they enter into many details of life. The Tri-copter was chosen because it combines the advantages of the quadcopter in stability and manoeuvrability quickly. In this paper, the nonlinear Tri-copter model is entirely derived and applied three controllers; Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID), Fractional Order PID (FOPID), and Nonlinear PID (NLPID). The tuning process for the controllers’ parameters had been tuned by using the Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm. Then the results obtained had been compared. Where the improvement rate for the Tri-copter model of the nonlinear controller (NLPID) if compared with </p> ... Show More

A Comparative Study of Pressure Losses and Hole Cleaning Efficiency of Water and Polymer solutions in Horizontal Wells
...Show More Authors

The main objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the effect of the CMC polymeric drag reducer on the pressure drop occurred along the annulus of the wellbore in drilling operation and investigate the optimum polymer concentration that give the minimum pressure drop. A flow loop was designed for this purpose consist from 14 m long with transparent test section and differential pressure transmitter that allows to sense and measure the pressure losses along the test section. The results from the experimental work show that increasing in polymer concentration help to reduce the pressure drop in annulus and the optimum polymer concentration with the maximum drag reducing is 0.8 kg/m3. Also increasing in flow rate a

Experimental Study of the Thermal Performance of Flat Plate Solar Collectors Array by Different Connection Configurations
...Show More Authors

The current research illustrates experimentally the effect of series and parallel connection (Z-I Configurations) of flat plate water solar collectors array on the thermal performance of closed loop solar heating system. The study includes the effect of changing the water flow rate on the thermal efficiency. The results show that, the collector's efficiency in series connection is higher than the parallel connection within flow rate level less than (100) ℓ/hr. Moreover, the collector efficiency in parallel connection of (I-Configurations) is more than the (Z- Configurations) with increasing the water flow rate .The maximum daily efficiency for parallel (I-Configurations) and (Z- Configurations) are (55%) and (51%) at w

Performance application of ultraviolet disinfection technique for raw water
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>Microbial water disinfection with UV rays is a universal technology. Disinfection is a method used to treat drinking water. This can be accomplished using physical and/or chemical processes. Physical Methods: Heating and UV rays are two main methods - UV rays to destroy cells and kill bacteria. The physical process generally gives drinking water an instant purification without producing harmful substances. However, there is no pollution in the water to ensure continuous cleaning. This study’s primary goal is to obtain environmentally safe drinking water in situations of water shortages and homes that lack clean water. Therefore, resort to appropriate home treatment. Therefore, an ex</p> ... Show More

Evaluating the Performance of High Modulus Asphalt Concrete Mixture for Base Course in Iraq
...Show More Authors

In the 1980s, the French Administration Roads LCPC developed high modulus mixtures (EME) by using hard binder. This type of mixture presented good resistance to moisture damage and improved mechanical properties for asphalt mixtures including high modulus, good fatigue behaviour and excellent resistance to rutting. In Iraq, this type of mixture has not been used yet. The main objective of this research is to evaluate the performance of high modulus mixtures and comparing them with the conventional mixture, to achieve this objective, asphalt concrete mixes were prepared and then tested to evaluate their engineering properties which include moisture damage, resilient modulus, permanent deformation and fatigue characteristics. Effect of Chronic Exposure of Cadmium Chloride in Drinking Water on Structural and Functional Aspects of Thyroid Gland in Mature Male Rabbits
...Show More Authors

The effect of chronic exposure to two different levels of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) 30 ppb and 40 ppb in drinking water for 12 weeks on thyroid function of mature male rabbits was studied. Eighteen mature male rabbits  were randomly divided into three groups (each of six ) , control group (group I ): were offered ordinary tap water , and treated groups (II and III ) were offered tap water containing 30ppb and 40 ppb respectively for 12 weeks .Serum concentration of  thyroxin (T4 ) and triiodothyronine (T3) were measured every six weeks ,as an index  of  thyroid function , further more ,  section of thyroid gland were prepared for histological studies. The results showed that  chronic exposure of male rabbits

Experimental investigation and modelling of residual stresses in face milling of Al-6061-T3 using neural network
...Show More Authors

Milling process is a common machining operation that is used in the manufacturing of complex surfaces. Machining-induced residual stresses (RS) have a great impact on the performance of machined components and the surface quality in face milling operations with parameter cutting. The properties of engineering material as well as structural components, specifically fatigue life, deformation, impact resistance, corrosion resistance, and brittle fracture, can all be significantly influenced by residual stresses. Accordingly, controlling the distribution of residual stresses is indeed important to protect the piece and avoid failure. Most of the previous works inspected the material properties, tool parameters, or cutting parameters, bu
