     In the present work, the possibility of treating many types of radioactive sources was examined practically. Six types of sealed radioactive sources were selected: ¹³⁷Cs, ¹³³Ba, ⁹⁰Sr, ¹⁵²Eu, ²²⁶Ra, and ²⁴¹Am. The sources were exposed to a neutron flux emitted from ²⁴¹Am/Be source for 33 days. The results showed a measurable reduction of activity for ²²⁶Ra, ²⁴¹Am, and ¹⁵²Eu, while the other radionuclides, ¹³⁷Cs, ¹³³Ba, and ⁹⁰Sr, showed less response to neutron incineration.

Sewage sludge samples were collected from Al-rasafa and Al-karkh refinement stations which represent the main stations of Baghdad city. Samples were collected from all treatment stages: before, after, and during refinement processes. The High Purity Germanium Coaxial Detector system with energy resolution 1.8 keV for energy line 1333 keV of Co – 60 radioactive sources was used to measure radioactivity from both natural and artificial sources. Four localities were selected in Euphrates River and Ramadi sewage treatment plant to collect water samples monthly during the period between October 2001 to July 2002 . Total cell count of phytoplankton and its physico- chemical concentrations were determined . The study aimed to demonstrate the effect of Ramadi sewage treatment plant on Euhprates River . It is concluded that the sewage had an dilution effect for the total hardness , total alkalinity , electrical conductivity and salinity of Euphrates River , but it is also caused in the presence of a contaminated area . Coliform densities T.S and F.C and TS and F.S and total bacterial count as bacteriological pollution indicators, as moste probable number (MPN) method was studied in test.
