Electronic and optical properties of nickel-doped ceria: A computational modelling study

Cerium oxide (CeO2), or ceria, has gained increasing interest owing to its excellent catalytic applications. Under the framework of density functional theory (DFT), this contribution demonstrates the eect that introducing the element nickel (Ni) into the ceria lattice has on its electronic, structural, and optical characteristics. Electronic density of states (DOSs) analysis shows that Ni integration leads to a shrinkage of Ce 4f states and improvement of Ni 3d states in the bottom of the conduction band. Furthermore, the calculated optical absorption spectra of an Ni-doped CeO2 system shifts towards longer visible light and infrared regions. Results indicate that Ni-doping a CeO2 system would result in a decrease of the band gap. Finally, Mulliken's charge transfer of the Ce1􀀀xNixO2 system exhibits an ionic bond between Ce or Ni and O, and covalent bonds between Ce and Ni atoms. The analysis of absorption spectra demonstrates that Ni-doped CeO2 is a material with potential use in photocatalytic, photovoltaic, and solar panels.

Purification and characterization of Streptococcus pyogenes superantigen (Spe-C)

From 144 specimens of tonsillitis which were collected from patient, (children of 3 -12 year olds) there were 70 isolates beta hemolytic and 28 isolates were identified as S. pyogenes. Sensitivity of S. pyogenes isolates to antibiotics was tested, all isolates were sensitive to amoxicillin and cephaloxia while higher resistant were to erythromycin. One isolate whiche was 100 A had a stable characteristics and produce pyrogenic toxin was chosen for study and it was purified and characterized from the cell free supernatant of S. pyrogenes strain.

Ultrasonic and Viscosity Studies of Poly ( Acrylic Acid ) Solutions

Ultrasonic absorption, velocity, viscosity, adiabatic compressibility, relaxation time and relaxation amplitude measurements are reported on different concentrations of poly(acrylic acid) solutions in common solvent water using pulsed ultrasonic apparatus technique operating at 26 kHz and 30 ºC. Results show an increase of velocity, viscosity, and absorption coefficient ،relaxation time and relaxation amplitude values with the increasing concentrations of the poly(acrylic acid) solutions, which might be the result of structural fluctuations of polymer molecules such as the segmental motions of the polymer chains. Characterization and Classification of Radioactive Wastes from Disposal Silo

In the present work, classification of radioactive wastes based on Annual Intake (AI) values is studied. Where the characterization of radionuclides was done by hand held GeLi detector with an overall efficiency better than 42%. It was noted the most predominant contaminant are Cs-137, Co-60 and Pa-234.The radioactive waste in disposal silo has been divided into five categories according to the harmful effect of radionuclides.For the purpose of storageradioactive wastein a safe manner, it wassuggesteda new method by shielding radioactive waste in each category with concrete;where the thickness of shielding is the time required to reduce the annual dose to 10%.
