Radiation shielding properties of Cd-Bi-Pb-Zn-borate glasses: influence of Bi2O3 activation
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>We report the detail characterizations and γ-radiation protecting characteristics of some new types of cadmium (Cd)-bismuth (Bi)-lead (Pb)-zinc (Zn)-borate glasses of the form (70-x)B2O3-10ZnO-10PbO-10CdO-xBi2O3 (with x = 0 to 20 mol%) synthesized via melt-quenching process. The influence of various Bi2O3 contents on the γ-radiation shielding traits of the obtained glass samples was evaluated by exposing them at different γ-ray energies (0.356, 0.662, 1.173, and 1.33 MeV) which were recorded by the NaI detector. XRD analyses of the as-quenched specimens showed their glassy phase. A comparison between theoretically computed (Phy-X and XCOM software) and experimentally measured various shielding parameters of the glass samples were performed. Irrespective of the Bi2O3 contents, the values of the mass attenuation coefficient, effective atomic number and effective electron density of the prepared glass samples were reduced with the increase of γ-ray energies. Furthermore, the theoretically calculated values of all the shielding parameters were agreed well with the measured ones. Regardless of the γ-ray energy exposures, the shielding capacity of the studied glasses was improved with the increase of Bi2O3 doping contents. The proposed glass compositions were asserted to be useful for the γ-ray absorber applications.</p>

SARS-CoV-2: A Piece of Bad News
...Show More Authors

A shocking third species emerged from a family of coronaviruses (CoV) in late 2019 following viruses causing SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-CoV) in 2003 and MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-CoV) in 2012; it’s a novel coronavirus now called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; formerly called 2019-nCoV). First emerging in China, it has spread rapidly across the globe, giving rise to significant social and economic costs and imposing severe strain on healthcare systems. Since many attempts to control viral spread has been futile, the only old practice of containment including city lockdown and social distancing are working to some extent. Unfortunately, specific antiviral drugs and vaccines remain u

Genetic Association of Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 ACE-2 (rs2285666) Polymorphism with the Susceptibility of COVID-19 Disease in Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors

Significant risks to human health are posed by the 2019 coronavirus illness (COVID-19). SARS coronavirus type 2 receptor, also known as the major enzyme in the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE-2), connects COVID-19 and RAS. This study was conducted with the intention of determining whether or not RAS gene polymorphisms and ACE-2 (G8790A) play a part in the process of predicting susceptibility to infection with COVID-19. In this study 127 participants, 67 of whom were deemed by a physician to be in a severe state of illness, and 60 of whom were categorized as "healthy controls" .The genetic study included an extraction of genomic DNA from blood samples of each covid 19 patients and healthy control

Abstract<p>Reservoir simulation models are utilized by oil and gas companies with a purpose to develop fields. Expansions and improvements in simulation software have lessened the time to develop a model. Simulating the reservoir aims to realize fluid flow, physical, and chemical procedures happening in a hydrocarbon reservoir adequately well for the reason of improving hydrocarbon recovery under various working stipulations. Grid-orientation effects are complicated problem in numerical reservoir simulation. These influences were coming when utilized of numerical utilization mechanism to conditions characterizing physically inconstant displacement procedure. These impacts happen in an assortment</p> ... The influence of prey density on the numerical response of Chrysoperla mutata MacLachlan
...Show More Authors

The numerical response of Chrysoperla mutata MacLachlan was achieved by exposing the larvae of the predators to various densities of dubas nymphs Ommatissus lybicus DeBerg. Survival rate of predators’ larvae and adults emergence increased with increasing consumption . Repriductive response of predator was highly correlated with the amount of food consumed (+0.996).

Factors influence the growth and penetration of microfinance institutions: A case of Egypt
...Show More Authors

Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) offers small loans with easy repayment system and till now these institutions have served millions of needy people around the globe. This study highlights the hurdles influence the smooth working and growth of Microfinance institution in Egypt. The structured interviews were conducted from the top and mid-level managers of MFI's. This study revealed that interest rate, political and economic conditions, corruption, customer outreach, competition and technology are the important elements for MFI's success. It is evident that lack of use of technology and less importance drawn on customer outreach programs are the main challenges of MFI's in Egypt. This study provides a roadmap for practitioners and strategic

Influence of Additives on Permanent Deformation and Resilient Modulus of Recycled Asphalt Concrete
...Show More Authors

Tests were performed on asphalt concrete specimens with (101.6 mm in diameter and 101.6 mm in height), and the results were implemented for calculating permanent deformation and resilient modulus under repeated compressive stress with different levels of stresses (0.068, 0.138 and 0.206) MPa at 40 ºC. Two types of additives namely (carbon black-asphalt) and (SBR-asphalt) were tried as rejuvenators with three percentages of (0.5, 1 and 1.5) % by weight of asphalt cement along with two ratios of AC (1 and 2) % have been implemented as rejuvenator and blended with the reclaimed asphalt concrete. Aged materials were obtained from the site. 100% Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement material from the reclaimed mixture is implemented. A
