Production of Bioemulsifiers from Bacteria Grown on Hydrocarbons
...Show More Authors

This work aimed to identify biosurfactant-producing bacterial strains isolated from hydrocarbon-contaminatedsites and to evaluate their biosurfactant properties. The drop-collapse method and minimal agar added witha layer of diesel as carbon source were used for screening, positive strains were able to grow in a liquidmedium, and surface tension and emulsification index were determined in cell-free supernatant and cellsuspension. 250 bacterial isolate were tested, and 16 were positive for the drop-collapse and hydrocarbonlayer agar method. Most of the strains were Pseudomonas, except for three strains (Acinetobacter, Bacillus, and Rhodococcus). Surface tension was similar in cell-free and cell suspension measurements, with valuesin the range of 58 to 26 (mN/m), and all formed stable emulsions with engine oil (77-92% E24). Consideringthe variety of molecular structures among microbial biosurfactants, they have different chemical propertiesthat can be exploited commercially, for applications as diverse as bioremediation or degradable detergents.

Efflux pumps of Gram-negative bacteria in brief
...Show More Authors

he development of multidrug resistance in Gram-negative bacteria is a major problem faced antimicrobial therapy and management of infectious diseases. Too many resistance mechanisms were developed since the antimicrobial agents were produced and actually used. The mechanisms involved in antimicrobial agents' resistance are, modifying enzymes, alteration of the target site of antimicrobials and prevention of antimicrobials accumulation inside the bacterial cells. The latest is accomplished by two mechanisms: alteration of outer membrane permeability and efflux pumps. Efflux pumps are either chromosomal or plasmid-encoded although chromosomal encoded efflux pumps are common in Gram-negative bacteria. Resistance nodulation division (RND) efflu

Remediation of Oil Production by Matrix Acidizing Method on an Oil Well
...Show More Authors

The remediation oil production by matrix acidizing method on the well named "X" (for confidential reasons) is scrutinized in this paper. Initial production of 1150 bpd, production index of 2.8 STB/Psi/d and permeability of 150md, in 2018 two years down the lane this dropped to 450 bpd, production index 0.7 STB/Psi/d. The declined observed on the production index is trouble shouted and after elimination of (no completion damage/perforation damage), the skin is calculated by carrying out a well test (build-up test) whose extrapolation in excel over times gave us a skin of 40.The reservoir heterogeneity, containing >20% of feldspar, carbonates and paraffin’s guided thematrix acidizing design and treatment proposition to remedy thi

Production of protein isolate and its enzymatic hydrolysates from local pumpkin seeds and studying their functional properties
...Show More Authors

Background: Pumpkin seeds are a valuable source of high-quality protein and can be utilized as functional food ingredients due to their properties, such as solubility, foam formation, and stability. This study aims to produce protein isolate and its enzymatic hydrolysates from local pumpkin seeds to study their properties. Methodology: Preparing defatted pumpkin seeds for protein extraction, followed by the enzymes’ hydrolysis using Trypsin and Pepsin enzymes separately and together in two methods. The determination of amino acids and the degree of hydrolysis was conducted; moreover, protein properties were studied, including solubility, emulsifying activity, stability index, foaming capacity, and stability. Results: A protein sample was

Using ANN for well type identifying and increasing production from Sa’di formation of Halfaya oil field – Iraq
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>The current study focuses on utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to identify the optimal locations of production wells and types for achieving the production company’s primary objective, which is to increase oil production from the Sa’di carbonate reservoir of the Halfaya oil field in southeast Iraq, with the determination of the optimal scenario of various designs for production wells, which include vertical, horizontal, multi-horizontal, and fishbone lateral wells, for all reservoir production layers. Artificial neural network tool was used to identify the optimal locations for obtaining the highest production from the reservoir layers and the optimal well type. Fo</p> ... Show More

Molecular and Immunological Methods to Confirm Toxiginicity (Microcystin Production) of Westiellopsis Prolifica Isolated from Tigris River – Iraq
...Show More Authors

Several toxigenic cyanobacteria produce the cyanotoxin (microcystin). Being a health and environmental hazard, screening of water sources for the presence of microcystin is increasingly becoming a recommended environmental procedure in many countries of the world. This study was conducted to assess the ability of freshwater cyanobacterial species Westiellopsis prolifica to produce microcystins in Iraqi freshwaters via using molecular and immunological tools. The toxigenicity of W. prolifica was compared via laboratory experiments with other dominant bloom-forming cyanobacteria isolated from the Tigris River: Microcystis aeruginosa, Chroococcus turigidus, Nostoc carneum, and Lyngbya sp. signifi

Production of Nano Beta-Glucans From Baking Yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Its Comparison With Extracted Beta-Glucans
...Show More Authors
Abstract<p>In this study, the valid bread yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was used for the purpose of the polysaccharide beta-glucan, and the diagnosis of lyophilization was confirmed, as the biological cell of the yeast was grown in SDA Agar medium and incubated at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius for 48 hours, and the sugar fermentation test was conducted and completed. Identifying its microscopic and cultural characteristics, diagnostic tests showed that it was Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. Beta-glucan was extracted from yeast cells using the (acid-base) method. The extracted beta-glucan was diagnosed using Infrared rays (FT-IR) and (H</p> ... Show More

Effect of Aquatic, Alcoholic and Oily Extracts of Cocos nucifera L.on the Growth of Certain Pathogenic Bacteria Isolated from Wounds and Burns Infections
...Show More Authors

Three types of extracts ( aquatic, alcoholic, and oily ) were prepared from the fruits of coconuts, and a series of chemical tests were conducted in addition to the use of the FTIR equipment to determine the active locations in the prepared extracts. The results indicated the presence of active compounds (tannins, saponins, flavonoids, turbines and steroids) in the extracts prepared from the fruits of coconuts, also the antimicrobial capability of these extracts were tested on pathogenic bacteria isolated from wounds and burns infections cases. The results proved that the concentration 80 mg/ml of the aquatic extract is the minimum inhibitory concentration for the microbes: Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas fluorescence, while the
