Dhirgham Alobaydi is Head of the Department of Architecture Engineering at the University of Baghdad. Many of his research projects and publications have focused on the morphological developments of Iraqi cities, particularly the urban forms and structures of historic nuclei. He is conducted several studies and reports focusing on understanding the role of Iraqi local communities in preserving their intangible cultural heritage including rituals, practices, expressions, knowledge and skills that communities recognize as part of their cultural heritage.
- Holding a Ph.D. in Architecture, MA in architecture arts, MSc in architeural engineering, and BSc in architecture engineering.

I am acting the head of department (HOD) of architectur engineering, the has several responsibilities, which include:
- The HOD is responsible for providing academic leadership to the department, ensuring that the department’s academic programs are of high quality, up to date, and meet the requirements of the university and the industry.
- Develop and implement of the department’s curriculum. I ensure that the curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the students, the industry and firms, and the academic standards of the university.
- Manage the department’s faculty members, including recruitment, training, evaluation, and promotion. I ensure that the faculty members are qualified, competent, and motivated to deliver quality teaching and research.
- promot and encouraging research and innovation in the department. They must encourage faculty members and students to engage in research and innovation activities, and support them in securing funding and other resources for their research.
- Ensure that the department provides excellent support services to students, including academic advising, career counseling, and other student-centered activities. I ensure that the department is responsive to the needs of students and provides a supportive learning environment.
- Promot the department’s engagement with the industry and the community. I build partnerships with industry and community organizations, and ensure that the department’s research and teaching activities are aligned with the needs of the industry and the community.
- Award of Architecture Department at the University of Baghdad in 1998.
- Award of Summer Research Fellowship from the Graduate Studies at the University of Kansas in Summer 2016.
His recent publications examine the role of streets and syntactic properties of urban grids in creating successful urban places and well-connected communities. His work also has included the design of planning processes to enhance the education and communication functions of cities. He received the Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Architecture degrees, with a focus on urban planning, from the University of Kansas (KU).
