The work presented in this paper is a case study of the southeastern Iraqi Fauqi Oil Field to evaluate both the petrophysical properties and lithology of the Jeribe–Euphrates Formations. Reservoir characterization was performed using well log data, including Gamma Ray (GR), Density (RHOB), Neutron (NPHI), Sonic (DT), Spontaneous Potential (SP), and resistivity logs. Data processing, correction, and interpretation were conducted using Interactive Petrophysics (IP) software. The Gamma Ray method was used to estimate shale volume (Vsh), while porosity was calculated using various methods, with the neutron–density combination providing reliable results. To determine water saturation (Sw), the Archie equation was applied using common

Show MoreThe use of sugarcane molasses (SCM) as a sustainable stabilizing agent for geomaterials, particularly granular subbase soils, has recently attracted growing attention as an alternative to traditional stabilization methods employing cement, lime, or bitumen, which are often associated with high costs and environmental concerns. This study presents a mechanistic–experimental evaluation of SCM for stabilizing granular subbase materials at dosages of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% by weight of dry granular material. A comprehensive testing program was conducted, including compaction characteristics, California Bearing Ratio (CBR), resilient modulus (Mr), permanent deformation under repeated loading, optical microscopy, and FTIR spectroscopy.

Show MoreThe use of nanofluids in combination with magnetic fields has a wide range of applications in many fields, including cooling systems, microelectromechanical systems, medical systems, solar collectors, heat exchangers, and lubrication technologies. The magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) free convection in an inclined porous cylinder field with nanofluid was simulated numerically in this study. The heat was generated uniformly through the cylinder, and the horizontal walls were thermally insulated while the lateral wall remained at constant cold temperature. Vorticity transport and energy equations were used as the governing equations. A MATLAB code was developed to solve these equations after transforming them into algebraic equations using t
... Show MoreNatural convection in a porous, rectangular hollow full of saturated air was investigated numerically in the current study. The bottom side was warmed with a continuous heat flux, the right side's temperature was kept at (Tc), the left wall was opened to the surroundings, and the top side was insulated. The pertinent filled-out research parameters in the current experiment were four heat flux values (1500, 3000, 4500, and 6000 W/m²) and three Darcy’s numbers (Da1=4.025×10-10, Da2=4.025×10-8, Da3=4.025×10-6). COMSOL Multiphysics 5.5a, using finite elements and a relying Brinkman-Darcy extended model, was employed to resolve government equations. Local thermal balance simulation was assumed in this solution. Energy transfer and

Show Moreorphological changes, represented by erosion and sedimentation, are a natural phenomenon that occurs in most river estuaries, causing changes in waterways and affecting offshore structures. One of these estuaries is the Shatt Al-Arab River estuary, which is the main waterway for trade and a major outlet for oil exports, is suffering from these changes. Moreover, the Thalweg Line, which is the deepest point within the estuary, forms the international border between Iraq and Iran. This line is moving at some rate towards the Iraqi land. To understand the process of erosion and sedimentation within the Shatt Al-Arab River estuary, a hydraulic mathematical simulation by using both HEC RAS and ANSYS Software. The HEC RAS was used to simulate the

At first, experimental tests were conducted to measure the soil water retention curves (SWRCs) of clayey sandy soils. A total of four different soil samples, which have clay content of 0, 15, 30 and 50%, respectively, by total soil sample weight, were measured. Secondly, a revision of a physical–chemical (PC) analytical model previously proposed has been reviewed and adopted to represent the SWRC measurements and compared for its predictive performance against the classic van Genuchten model and the original PC model. The experimental results demonstrated that clay content has a significant influence on soil w

Show MoreThe current study objective is to synthesize activated carbon (AC) from compressed wood using the ZnCl2 activating agent and to assess the ciprofloxacin (CIP) elimination efficiency in simulated wastewater. The produced AC was characterized using multiple techniques, including SEM, BET, FTIR, AFM, and XRD. The adsorbent demonstrates high adsorption performance, achieving 91% removal of CIP within 5 hours at an initial pollutant concentration of 100 mg/L with an AC dose of 2 g/L. Experimental data correspond to the Freundlich isotherm model (R² = 0.995) as well as the Langmuir competitive fitting (R² = 0.99), while the root mean square error (RMSE) equation best fits the Langmuir model. Moreover, the pseudo-second-order

The Shatt Al-Arab River located south of Iraq suffers from these phenomena. Based upon the basic principles of hydraulics, it is reasonably easy to identify shear stress distributions within the river reach of the Shatt Al-Arab; and that will allow us to know the locations of the erosion and deposition. For this purpose, a 2D model using HEC-RAS software was developed to simulate the flow within the lower reach of Shatt Al-Arab. The results showed that the maximum shear stress at the right bank of Shatt Al- Arab reached 0.1N/m2 at 12 km upstream of Ras- Al-Bisha. This value of shear stress was recorded durin

However, the computation of high-order DRPs presents significant numerical and computational challenges. Even though the recent advancements in algorithms have improved numerical stability, the inherently sequential nature of these algorithms continues to be a bottleneck for large-scale implementations. This paper proposes a new multithreading-based algorithm for computing the DRP coefficients. The proposed algorithm is designed to accelerate the computation of high-order DRPs by considering the advantages of the independence of different tasks and the ability to process mu

While natural sand is widely available, its use can lead to less stable, more tender mixes, which can limit various specifications. This study explores the potential of palm date seed (PDS) powder as a partial and full replacement for natural sand in asphalt concrete. A series of laboratory tests was conducted to evaluate the effect of PDS incorporation on the mechanical and durability performance of asphalt mixtures, including Marshall properties, resilient modulus, fatigue resistance, moisture susceptibility, and permanent deformation. Additionally, microstructural a

Show MoreA numerical investigation was performed on triangular solar air collectors by integrating unique layouts of triangular and alternating triangular copper metal foams with graded and non-graded pore densities. A three-dimensional CFD model was established to solve the governing equations of coupled systems for porous and non-porous domains. The two-energy-equations model was implemented to simulate heat transfer in porous media. The mathematical model was validated with numerical and experimental tests, with maximum mean absolute percentage error of 5% and 7%, respectively. To compromise heat transfer improvement with pressure losses, a partial metal foam insertion was adopted, covering 10% to 25% of the air duct volume. The findings indicate

Extensive research has shown that externally-bonded CFRP sheets tend to debond from the soffit of the concrete members at much lower strains, compared with CFRP rupture strain. Different types of anchorage system have been developed to prevent or delay the debonding type failure, which leads to a higher utilisation of the CFRP sheets before failure occurs. This paper summarises some of the most efficient types of anchorage systems that have shown significant enhancement in terms of increasing the flexural bending c
