Summary: Background: The World Health Organization has declared that obesity is a disease of pandemic significance. The number of performed bariatric procedures has rapidly and considerably increased over the past decade. The most frequently performed and best studied procedures are laparoscopic gastric banding (LAGB), laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB). Objectve: To provide a critical appraisal of the most important scientific evidence comparing the short term outcomes of these three weight-reduction procedures (laparoscopic gastric banding (LAGB), laparosc
Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common disease associated with pregnant women due to several anatomical and hormonal changes in pregnant women lead to ureteral dilatation and urinary infection, many of microorganisms such as fungi, viruses, and bacteria have numerous virulence factors that enhance their ability to colonize in pregnant women. Some bacteria have resistance toward many antimicrobial agents for treatment has led to therapeutic difficulties worldwide, in order that many investigators try to test fungal extract to reduce bacterial infection.

Background: Many workers have described the prevalence of HBV markers and anti-HCV among selected populations including health care personnel in Iraq. The purpose of this study is to describe the demographic characteristics and risk factors of hepatitis B and C in a sample of Iraqi health care workers (HCWs).
Materials and methods: A total of 1656 HCWs selected from Baghdad city was included in this study. A questionnaire form was filled for each HCW by direct interview. The data requested
included demographic characteristics and risk factors of exposure to HBV and HCV. HCWs were screened for the presence of HBsAg, anti-HBs and anti-HCV.
Results: A higher prevalence of HBsAg, anti-HBs and anti-HCV was de
Background: Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) is the most polymorphic genetic system in man. The genes of this region influence susceptibility to certain diseases.
Patients and methods: Immunofixation test is the method used to asses C4 polymorphism of 100 blood samples of 60 AIH patients and 40 healthy normal controls.
Results: An increased frequency of C4A*Q0 was observed for patients group versus control group with P-value (0.003).
Conclusions: This finding demonstrated that C4A*Q0 might play a role in AIH susceptibility.
Background: There is a general acceptance which illustrated that auto antibodies act as a central immunological disturbance in most of the auto immune diseases, among these auto immune diseaselies the SLE
Patients and Methods: Thirty five patients with SLE were compared to twenty age and sex matched, control subjects and studied for the presence of auto antibodies, plus IL-4 and IL-6 using Elisa method and immune fluorescent method (for ANA only)
Results: Data showed that IL-6 detectable levels were statistically significant in patients with positive anti ds-DNA, but not significant statistically in ANA positive patients although it was detected in 24 (70.6%) of positive ANA patients, while there was no sta

A prevalent nosocomial disease is catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). The risk of infection increases with urinary catheterization, making it easier for Escherichia coli to colonize the urinary system. Uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC) specifically adapts to survive in challenging urinary tract conditions. Treating CAUTI accurately and effectively can be difficult. An important health concern nowadays is drug-resistant bacteria.

The granulosa cells of the developing pre-antral and antral follicles produce inhibin B, which triggers chemical responses in the ovaries. Inhibin B is most often observed in the follicular phase when levels peak early and then decline over time
Objectives: This study was designed to investigate the role of serum inhibin B and the Luteinizing Hormone / Follicle Stimulating Hormone ratio in differentiation between the different phenotypes of polycystic ovary syndrome as well as to define the predominant PCOS phenotype.

Background:
Acute leukemias are clonal neoplastic proliferations of immature cells of the hemopoietic system. They are divided into acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute
lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute undifferentiated leukemia (AUL). LDH has been suggested as a possible non-specific tumor marker for many years, and total serum LDH is
frequently elevated in neoplastic diseases. The aims of the study are to evaluate the significance of increased serum LDH levels in patients with acute leukemia and to
determine the importance of serum LDH level in the follow up and assessment of treatment responses.
