Detection of bovine parainfluenza type 3 virus in Iraq: Aida Bara Allawe and Anton Sabri Al-bana
...Show More Authors

This study is considered the first study in our country to isolate bovine parainfluenza
type 3 virus (BPIV-3) from naturally infected calves. BPIV-3 virus was isolated from nasal
swabs collected from calves with respiratory disease. The virus was isolated and titrated in
secondary embryonic bovine kidney (SEBK) cell culture; other cell cultures (secondary sheep
testis and chicken embryos fibroblast cell cultures) were used for propagation of isolated
virus. Examination of infected cell culture revealed giant cell formation and intracytoplasmic
inclusions. The isolated virus agglutinated guinea pig’s erythrocytes and produces clear
heamadsorption of guinea pig’s erythrocyte in infected SEBK cell culture. Virus tit

This study was conducted to know the effect of ewe age on oocyte quality as well as the relations
between oocyte viability and normal uterine condition. Eighty three (83) reproductive systems of
non-pregnant ewes were collected from Al-shulla abattoir. The Total oocytes were aspirated from
right ovaries reached 61.45% and 38.55% from left ovaries. Immediately after aspiration, the oocytes
were examined by light microscopic and conceded as mature if surrounded completely with cumulus
oopherus. While the stained oocytes by trypan blue were conceded as dead oocytes and excluded.
According to ewes age the oocytes were classified into (3) groups, the first group ranged between 1-

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of age and season on the epididymal sperm and level of testosterone in camel. A total 103 camel testes samples were collected from Al-Najaf slaughter house during a cold season (December 2012, January and February 2013) and moderatehot season (March, April and May, 2013). Testes were divided into 3 Gs according to camel age, G1 included the testes of 2-3years, G 2 (3 – 4years) and over 4 years (G 3). Blood samples were collected for determination of serum testosterone level. The sperms were obtained from the tail of epididymis from all animals groups and the results of the sperms individual motility percentage was increased at the level of (P< 0.05) significantly with age progress in

Present study was conducted on 128 animals that had postpartum anoestrus (PPA) for a period between 4 to 8 months. The animals were subjected to two experiments according to the type of anoestrus. In the first experiment 94 animals (73.5%) with persistent corpus luteum on their ovaries without any signs of estrous (sub-oestrus) were classified into two sub-groups.Sub-group1 (n=47) treated with PGF2α hormone alone and sub-group 2 (n= 47) were treated by tw

The study revealed that, in harrier species the cranial lobe of kidney was the largest with elongated shape. In mallard the cranial lobe was small round-oval, while middle and caudal lobe were lobulated and larger .In chicken the caudal lobe was the largest. Statistically, in harrier the mean length of cranial lobe (20±0.1mm) and the width of the middle lobe (5±0.5mm) were significantly higher than those of mallard (10±0.3mm) (8.0.2mm) and chicken (15±0.2mm) (4±0.4mm) respectively. The mean weight of the kidney in harrier is (5.8±0.20g) this value significantly was higher than those of mallared (8.9±0.11g) and chicken (6.8±0.10g

One of the "hallmarks of cancer" is altered energy metabolism, which is increased glycolysis in cancer cells, the primary source of energy that uses this metabolic pathway to generate ATP. Oncolytic virotherapy with aerobic glycolysis inhibitor smart therapeutic approach to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. The current study aimed to use the 2-Deoxyglucose (2DG), a specific glycolysis inhibitor, to enhance the Newcastle disease virus (NDV). In this study, a mouse model of breast cancer allograft with mammary adenocarcinoma tumor cells (AN3) was used and treated with 2DG, NDV, and a combination of both. Anti-tumor efficacy and glycolysis analysis (hexokinase -1 (HK-1), pyruvate, and ATP) were determined. The induction of oxidative stress

This study addresses the limited research on Streptococcus equi subsp. equi (S. equi) infections in horses in Baghdad, Iraq, a highly contagious disease known as strangles. The objective was to investigate the clinical, bacteriological, and molecular characteristics of these infections. A total of 115 samples were collected from 100 racehorses, consisting of 85 nasal swabs from horses without abscesses and 30 samples (15 nasal swabs and 15 abscess samples) from 15 horses with abscesses. The bacterium was identified based on traditional bacteriological diagnostic methods and confirmed using PCR amplification of the seeI gene. PCR detected a 34% infection rate.      Three hundred samples of stool were collected from children, who are suffering from diarrhea, during the period from October to December 2016 at Fatima Al Zahra and Shaheed al-Sadr hospitals. All bacterial isolates have been submitted to the cultural, microscopical, biochemical examinations, and Vitek 2 system identification to identify Aeromonas isolates. All the isolates under study were tested for their ability to the production of certain factors associated with virulence. It has been concluded that 12 (4%) of collected samples were positive to Aeromonas Spp. The virulence factors of Aeromonas spp. were detected and showed that all the isolates have the ability to produce haemolysin

Development and Characterization of Lornoxicam-Infused Ocular Gel for Effective Treatment of Ocular Inflammation in Domestic Cats
...Show More Authors

Lornoxicam (LOX) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) effective in managing ocular inflammation. Traditional delivery methods like liquid drops are cleared rapidly and may not provide sustained therapeutic levels, necessitating the development of an ocular gel formulation. Mucoadhesive polymers such as hyaluronic acid (HA), hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), and Carbopol have been identified as suitable excipients to modify drug release profiles. This study aims to formulate an effective ophthalmic 0.1% w/w lornoxicam gel administered to pets for topical and continuous drug release, enhancing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing possible side effects. Eight formulations of lornoxicam ocular gel

It appeared that the total serum protein and globulin were significantly higher in the stallions than those in mares (P < 0.05) whereas the results of other hemaltological parameters were comparable and the mean values did not show significant differences (P > 0.05).
