Application of RAPD-PCR and Phylogenetic Analysis for Accurate Characterization of Salmonella spp. Isolated from Chicken and Their Feed and Drinking Water
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study was ‎the‎ discrimination of Salmonella‎‎ isolated from chicken and their feed ‎and drinking water for the epidemiological control of salmonellosis. Totally, 289 samples, ‎including 217 chicken cloaca swabs, 46 water, and 26 feed samples were collected from five ‎different farms in Karbala governorate, Iraq. Conventional bacteriology tests, API 20E, Vitek 2, ‎and serology were used for bacterial identification. Random amplified polymorphic ‎DNA (RAPD)-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was applied to analyze the genetic relationships ‎among Salmonella‎‎ isolates. The isolation rate of Salmonella‎‎ spp. was 21.1% (61/289). While

This work aimed to use conventional PCR to identify Salmonella‎ spp. that ‎were isolated from diarrheal children and healthy and diarrheic dogs based on four ‎virulence genes, hilA, stn, spvR, and marT. Sixteen Salmonella isolates including: 9 ‎isolated from children's diarrhea from three species (S. Typhimurium, S. Enteritidis, S. ‎Typhi) and seven isolated from dogs including (S. Typhimurium, S. Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), ochratoxin A (OTA), and fumonisin B1 (FB1), the most commonly ‎encountered mycotoxins, constitute serious human ‎and animal health threats as a result of their ‎toxigenic, carcinogenic, and mutagenic influences‎. The study aimed to investigate the occurrence ‎of these mycotoxins in poultry feeds and determine the ‎percentage of the samples that exceeded the legal limits approved by the European ‎Commission ‎‎(EC). Sixty poultry feed samples were collected from poultry feed plants and poultry farms in Nineveh ‎Province and analyzed for ‎detection mycotoxins‏ ‏using competitive Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent ‎Assay (ELISA). Hepatoprotective Effect of Alcoholic Extract of Ficus carica Leaves ‎Against ‎‎Cypermethrin-Induced Liver Toxicity in Male Albino Rats
...Show More Authors

Cypermethrin (CYP), a synthetic pyrethroid, is recognized for its insecticidal properties but ‎poses potential risks of hepatotoxicity. In traditional medicine, Ficus (F.) carica (common ‎fig) leaves have historically been used for various therapeutic applications. This study ‎aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of the methanolic extract of F. carica‎ leaves ‎against CYP-induced liver damage in adult male albino rats (Rattus norvegicus). The ‎animals (n=30), 8-12 weeks old ‎and weighing 200-250 g‎, were randomly divided into five ‎experimental groups (n=6) and treated as follows: the negative control group received ‎d

Haemoglobin Epsilon as a Biomarker for the Molecular Detection of Canine ‎Lymphoma
...Show More Authors

Lymphoma is a cancer arising from B or T lymphocytes that are central immune system ‎components. It is one of the three most common cancers encountered in the canine; ‎lymphoma affects middle-aged to older dogs and usually stems from lymphatic tissues, ‎such as lymph nodes, lymphoid tissue, or spleen. Despite the advance in the management of ‎canine lymphoma, a better understanding of the subtype and tumor aggressiveness is still ‎crucial for improved clinical diagnosis to differentiate malignancy from hyperplastic ‎conditions and to improve decision-making around treating and what treatment type to use. ‎This study aimed to evaluate a potential novel biomarker related to iron metabolism, ‎em

Preparation and Characterization of Bovine Small Intestine Submucosa (SIS) ‎Hydrogel
...Show More Authors

The aim of this study was to prepare and characterize a small intestine submucosa (SIS) hydrogel as ‎a bio-scaffold. In this study, SIS from five calves, aged 8-12 months and weighing 250-300 kg, was ‎obtained from a slaughterhouse immediately after slaughtering. The SIS was then decellularized, ‎powdered, and subsequently transformed into a hydrogel. This transformation was achieved by ‎dissolving the decellularized SIS powder in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at a concentration of ‎‎50% w/v, and allowing it to form a hydrogel over a 12-hour period at 37 °C. Characterization of the ‎SIS hydrogel was conducted using various techniques. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy ‎‎(F

Mercuric chloride (HgCl2) pollution and poisoning has been a worldwide health ‎concern for decades, especially after the industrial revolutions. The aim of this study ‎was to investigate the role of resveratrol in reversing the deleterious effects of ‎HgCl2 exposure to resume the normal functions of hepatocyte. To achieve the study, ‎mature Sprague Dawley rats were assigned to five groups. Negative control group ‎‎(C) kept without any treatment; vehicle-treated group (D) received dimethyl ‎sulfoxide (DMSO); resveratrol-treated group (R), received 100 mg/kg of resveratrol; ‎HgCl2-intoxicated group (HD), received i.p. injection of HgCl2 at a dose of 1 mg/

In recent decades, exotic pets are increasingly invited to homes with a wide range of variation in species and requirements that are more specialized. During a one-year period, 2408 exotic animals admitted to the Small Animal Veterinary Hospital, University of Tehran were assessed. Rabbits, hamsters, squirrels, turtles/tortoises, guinea pigs, lizards, hedgehogs, reindeer, monkeys, and snakes were referred, respectively. Owner referral cause and their gender in addition to the disease diagnosis were analyzed. While no statistical significance (P>0.05) was observed in the total number of men and women presenting these animals, gender-based preferences were spotted for owning specific types of animal species

In Vitro Efficacy of Silver Carbene Complexes, SCC1 and SCC22, Against Some Enteric Animal Pathogens

Silver carbene complexes (SCCs), a group of novel silver-based compounds capable of gradually releasing silver ions, have shown significant antimicrobial activity against a wide range of bacterial pathogens mainly isolated from human cases. The antimicrobial activity against animal isolated pathogens has yet been done. The in vitro efficacy of two SCCs with different carrier molecules (SCC1 with a methylated caffeine backbone and SCC22 with a dichloroimidazolium backbone) was investigated against three important animal and human pathogen species. SCC1 and SCC22 exhibited bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects against multidrug resistant Salmonella Typhimurium (poultry isolate), E. coli 843 and E. coli 1568 (swine isolates), and the poul

SOME CLINICAL & SEROLOGICAL OBSERVATION ON RINDERPEST IN SHEEP AND GOATS IN AN ENDEMIC AREA IN IRAQ

This study was conducted as an attempt to determine the epidemiology of rinderpest in Awassi sheep and Levantine goats in an area endemic to rinderpest. A herd of sheep and goats that were in contact with cows and buffalo that were infected with rinderpest was examined. Naturally, blood serum samples were collected and examined using an agricultural neutralization test prepared from the kidneys of calves. We did not observe any clinical signs in sheep and goats that lived in coexistence with cows and buffaloes infected with rinderpest.
This study demonstrated the absence of antibodies to rinderpest infection in the sera of the sheep and goats that were examined, which indicates the absence of hidden rinder
