This study was designed to evaluate the levels of interleukins (2, 6 and 8) in immunized white  rats by killed whole cell antigens of Salmonella enterica subspecies typhimurium and sonicated Cryptococcus neoformans, and using  ELISA in day 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 after immunization one hundred white rats of both sexes divided into five groups (20 rats for each). The first group was immunized by killed whole cell antigens of Salmonella enterica subspecies typhimurium (9× 108 CFU /ml) and sonicated Cryptococcus neoformans (1000 µg/ml), The second was immunized by killed whole cell antigens of Salmonella enterica subspecies typhimurium

Toxic effects of subacute exposure to Nerium oleander leaves hexane extract on the heart of rabbits: Ali Aziz Alkhayyat and Rana Abdulla Salih
...Show More Authors

The study is performed to investigate the cardiotoxic effect of two season oleander leave extract in rabbits. The study involved a collection of the Nerium oleander leaves of two seasons (summer and winter) taken from Baghdad. The leaves were prepared by drying and grinding, and the extraction was carried by soxhlet apparatus with organic solvent (hexane). The toxicity was carried out on rabbits by giving 10% of the median lethal dose (LD50) for four weeks by considering different electrocardiography parameters and cardiac histopathological study after two weeks and four weeks of daily treatment. The electrocardiography parameters include R-R duration, T amplitude and Q-T duration values. The results of

Effects of running speeds on some markers of muscular tissues and synovial fluid of Iraqi Arabian Horses: Amir I. Towfik1; Heifa´a J. Hassan2 and Basima J. Mohamed2
...Show More Authors

Arabian horses are regarded as the most famous breed for speed for long distances due to their genetic superiority. The aims of the study were to focus on the effect of different running speeds on the muscular tissues (Myoglobin, creatine kinase, aspartate transaminase), lactate dehydrogenase and synovial fluid (creatine kinase, aspartate transaminase and lactate dehydrogenase). Non-trained eight local Iraqi Arabian horses were run on soil track for a distance (1) Km, walking, trot, canter, and gallop. Blood and synovial fluid samples were collected before and after running. The biochemical parameters of serum showed gradual increase according to each type of speed. All of them were significant at P≤0.01. The biochemical p

This study was carried out in Artificial Insemination Center of Iraq to revealed FMD disease effect on some seminal attributer parameters of 14 imported Holstein bulls divided to three groups according to different reproductive efficiency (four High, five medium and five weak). Results showed that FMD disease had significant (P < 0.05) adverse effect on most seminal attributer parameters, mass, individual motility and sperm concentration / ml during post disease in first of two, four, all months of high, medium and weak semen quality bulls respectively .but semen volume didn’t influenced significantly with this disease. So semen collection should be suspended until resume normal fertility of sperm, after two, four month of high and

Biochemical Parameters of Laboratory Animals in Iraq: A Meta-analysis Study
...Show More Authors

Our objective in this work was to estimate normal values of biochemical parameters in laboratory animals in Iraq. Values were pooled from studies conducted in Iraqi universities using a meta-analysis approach. Pertinent peer-reviewed published studies were retrieved from the Iraqi Academic Scientific Journals (IASJ) database. Random-effects inverse-variance model was used to obtain pooled means of the parameters from the set of studies qualified for the analysis. Among a total of 460 records identified from IASJ, 264 records were eligible for the statistical analysis, which reported 102 values for different biochemical parameters. The mean of the sample size for normal animals that was used in the studies in

Evaluating the Hepatoprotective Potential of Ginger Ethanolic Extract Against Lambda-Cyhalothrin-Induced Toxicity in Male Rats
...Show More Authors

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) is a traditional plant that is widely used as a spice or folk medicine. Lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) is a synthetic pyrethroid that is widely used to control insecticide. The present study aimed to evaluate the potential protective effect of ginger ethanolic extract (GEE) on liver toxicity experimentally induced by LCT in albino rats. The experiment involved thirty adult male rats (‎Rattus norvegicus)‎, randomly ‎allocated to ‎one of three groups (n=10/group: control group, administered distilled water orally for 12 weeks‎; ‎LCT-treated group, received 5.43 mg/kg BW ‎(1/15 LD50‎ dose calculated in this study as 81.5 mg/kg BW) orally, for 12 weeks;‎ LCT-‎GEE-treated gr

Radiological Evaluation of Length Discrepancy and Angular Deformity of Injured Growth Plate in Kit Rabbit Model
...Show More Authors

Growth plate injury is one of the most significant sequelae that affect the animal and man life in adulthood.  This condition considered as one of the real problem encountered by many orthopedics which can result in the formation of a bony bridge leading ultimately to limb length discrepancy and angular deformity of the long bones in kid animals. The objective of this study was to evaluate the deformities of the tibial length and angle radiographically after experimentally inducing growth plate injury. Five local breed kit rabbits included in this study, had body weight and age ranges of 500 to 1100 g and 6 to12 weeks, respectively. The animals were exposed to approximately 5×5×1 mm injury in the prox

Qualitative and quantitative assessment of flavonoids, sugar moiety and antioxidant scavenging activity (in vitro and vivo) of black cumin seed ( Nigella sativa L.) as well as serum lipid profile inhydrogen peroxide (H2O2) induced oxidative stress and flavonoids treated adult male rabbits were the main aim of the current study. The results showed that black cumin seeds contained 4.50gmcrude flavonoids per kg crushed seeds and the high performance liquid chromatography indicated the existence of 22 flavonoids, only seven of which were identified flavonoids represented nearly 2.751gm/kg of the total flavonoids. The concentration of kaempferol was the highest whereas quercetin the lowest. Glucose, fructose and sucrose were the sugar moiety

The vaginal smears of ewe, body and ovarian weight were daily administered at slaughter time; ewes were slaughtered at 60th day. Estrous cycle was affected by showing a significant reduce in the estrous cycle length of each phases of estrous cycle with associated significant increase in the diestrus phase in terbinafine treatment as compared with control group (olive oil treatment as adjuvant) of ewes. There was a significant reduce in the number of follicles and a significant raise in the number of atretic follicles in treated group as compared with control group as well as upsurge the progesterone/estrogen ratio.
