Garden cress (Lepidium sativum) seeds are considered extensively in the folk medicine as anantidiabetic agent in many countries. The current investigations focuses attention on theglucose and lipid lowering effect of the aqueous extract of L. sativum seeds on experimentally induced diabetes in rats. The biochemical parameters studied were plasma glucose, insulin, totalcholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, hemoglobin, and glycosylated hemoglobin.
In addition body weight and renal glucose reabsorption were notified. Aqueous extract of L. sativum were orally administered daily for 30 days in a dose of 20 mg / kg body weight to alloxan – diabetic rats , and a significant reduction in the parameters measured was investigated compared t

Hemosporidians are intracellular protozoan parasites found in blood cells and tissues of their avian hosts. They are worldwide distributed and occur in a variety of avian species, including domestic chicken. Blood parasites among village chickens in Qaradagh district, Sulaimani Province in Kurdistan region Iraq, were surveyed during the period of March-June for the year 2012. Haemoparasites investigation was done by microscopic examination of stained blood films which prepared from 170 local chickens (Gallus domesticus). The overall prevalence of all species of haemosporidian parasites over the studied period in tested individuals was 133 (78.2%) with 114 (85.7%) single and 19 (14.3%) mixed genera infections. THE EFFECT OF HIGH FLUORIDE INTAKE ON SODIUM, AND POTASSIUM AND CALCIUM LEVELS IN SHEEP BLOOD SERUM
...Show More Authors

This experiment was carried out to investigate levels of sodium, potassium and calcium in ovine blood serum for 12 weeks during which fluoride (100 ppm) was added to the ration. The rams remained physically in good condition and there were no lesions in the teeth, gums and joints. With the exception of an increase in sodium at the end of the first week, sodium and potassium levels were not influenced. This finding could point out to the possibility of failure of the added fluoride to induce significant changes in kidney and aldosterone functions regarding regulation of these two ions in blood. There was a general tendency of the total calcium level to decrease which reached statistical significance in samples of three weeks. Such decreas

Pyloromyotomy is a procedure to increase the diameter of pyloric region, routinely performed during pyloric stenosis to prevent delayed emptying of stomach content. The aim of this study was to evaluate the pyloromyotomy by conventional and laparoscopic techniques. Ten adult healthy dogs were used. Five animals underwent the pyloromyotomy by conventional and the same number laparoscopic technique. The clinical radiological and laparoscopic results of two techniques revealed that both were successive for achieved this purpose, but the laparoscopic pyloromoytomy characterized by small abdominal incision minimal adhesion and rapid healing.

An outbreak of avian influenza (AI) (H9N2) occurred in broiler, layers and
breeder chicken farms in Iraq during 2004-2007. Mortality between 30% and
70% in broilers and 5% and 10% in layers and breeders were commonly
observed on the affected farms. Mixed infections of the influenza virus with
other respiratory pathogens particularly Newcastle Disease (ND) virus and
Infectious Bronchitis (IB) virus were thought to be responsible for such high
mortality. ELISA test was used to detect ND, AI and IB antibodies. Clinical
signs included , decrease feed consumption, swelling of the face and typical
severe respiratory signs. Gross lesions included extensive hyperemia of the

One- day old broiler chicks were divided into four equal groups and given rations containing four different levels of dl-α -tocopheryl acetate (10, 40, 70 and 100 mg/kg of feed). Each ration was given’ to one group. Body weight was increased significantly in groups consumed rations containing 70 and 100 mg of dl-a tocopheryl acetate per kg of feed. Feed consumption has not. been increased in these two groups which give economic weight to the results. Tt is concluded that dl-α-tocopheryl acetate may be considered as growth promotor.
