EFFECT OF GAMMA RADIATION AND ETHYL METHANESULFONATE (EMS) ON POTATO SALT STRESS TOLERANCE IN VITRO
...Show More Authors

An experiment was conducted in the Date Palm Research Units labs / College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences / University of Baghdad to assess the tolerance toward salinity stress in potato after two mutagens treatments in vitro. Potato cv. Arizona and Rivera nodal segments were irradiated with four dosages of gamma rays at 0, 10, 20, and 30 Gray and immersed in (EMS) with four concentrations included 0, 10, 20, and 30 mM. The survival rates after mutagenesis treatments were calculated and 449 lines were obtained. The lines were tested for salinity tolerance by growing in MS medium supplemented with four concentrations of NaCl at 0, 100, 150, and 200 mM and data were analyzed according to the CRD with 10 replicates an

FINANCIAL EVALUATION OF SOME AGRICULTURAL INITIATIVE PROJECTS IN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

This research aims to identify the financial feasibility of some agricultural activities benefiting from the initiative's lending funds, as well as to show the impact of the agricultural initiative on those projects in terms of raising the financial feasibility of their establishment, in the light of the results of the evaluation criteria addressed in the research. Between the years 2009-2011, the financial accounts of the projects were monitored until 2018 to obtain cash flows for the studied projects. Some projects, despite their high investment costs, have been shown to be able to recover the funds invested in a relatively short period of time, and feed plants and similar projects have the potential to recover their costs in a

Three identically designed systems named designate as MFC-CW, CW1,and CW2 were constructed and setup in this study for simultaneous biotreatment of real petroleum refinery wastewater (PRW) and bioelectricity generation. The three systems were planted with emergent wetland plant of Canna indica. These systems were operated simultaneously in a single batch mode to identify the dominant mechanism for organics removal from PRW. The operation period for each cycle was 8 days.  Results demonstrated that maximum removal efficiency of the organic content represented as chemical oxygen demand (COD) were 96.5%, 89.3%, and 91%

ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK MODELING OF THE WATER QUALITY INDEX FOR THE EUPHRATES RIVER IN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

This study was aimed to investigate the development and evaluation of artificial intelligence techniques by using multilayer neural network. Levenberg–Marquardt back propagation (LMA) training algorithm was applied for calculating drinking water quality index (WQI) for Euphrates river (IRAQ). The transfer functions in the artificial network model were tangent sigmoid and linear for hidden and output layers, respectively. Eleven neurons presented for good prediction for results of (WQI) with a coefficient of correlation >0.97 and statistically calculated WQI values, inferring that the model predictions explain 94% of the variation in the calculated WQI scores. The WQI score of the Euphrates was 142 considered as poor. The an

RHIZOSPHERE MICROORGANISMS AND PHOSPHORUS AVAILABILITY FOR PLANTS
...Show More Authors

Phosphorus (P) is one of the major plant nutrients that directly or indirectly affect all biological processes. It is a key component of energy metabolism, and biosynthesis of nucleic acids and membranes. Phosphorus deficiency is considered to be one of the major limitations for crop production particularly in low-input agriculture systems around the world and nearly 80% of applied mineral P may be retained in the soil.  Roots provide an interface for P moving from one living system—the soil—into another living system—the plant. Microbial processes in soil are important for the distribution of P between various inorganic and organic P fractions and subsequently for the potential availability of phospha
