Immunocytochemical Detection of Glutathione S-Transferase in Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients

Background: Peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL)of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA)patients have a property of phenotypic and functional activation. Glutathione S- transferase pi (GSTπ) has been implicated in playing an important role in the initiation and progression of cellular activation.
Objectives: To determine the percentage of cellular expression of GSTπ in the lymphocytes of RA patients in comparison with controls and to explore the relation between its cellular expression and disease activity pattern.
Patients and Methods: This prospective study included46 RA patients and 17 healthy controls. Blood samples were taken and from all subjects PBL were isolated and then smeared on slides. The cellular reactivity for GSTπ was determin

Magnetic Resonance Imaging in sonographically indeterminate adnexal masses

Background: Although ultrasonography (US) continues to be the primary imaging modality used to identify and characterize adnexal masses, but certain conditions that hinder accurate ultrasound examination, such as obesity, may be indications for magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, for the assessment of complex and indeterminate ovarian masses.
Objective: to assess the ability of MRI to characterize sonographically indeterminate adnexal masses.
Patients and methods: A prospective study of 89 cases with sonographically indeterminate adnexal mass underwent pelvic MRI conducted in X-ray institute in medical city in Baghdad during period from October 2011 to January 2013 & the results compared to the final diagn

Evaluation of Some New Cytokines in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Background: Cytokines have an essential contribution to the inflammatory response and the development of chronic inflammation. Therefore, it has a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Interleukins are closely related to RA, and the exact role of some interleukins in the pathogenesis of RA is not yet known.
Objectives: To evaluate the levels of interleukins and their ratio, since the levels of interleukins 35 and 39 in RA patients have not yet been determined in Iraq.
Patients and methods: An ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) was used to measure the levels of interleukins in the blood of 56 patients with RA and 44 healthy volunteers who were enrolled in the study from November 2021 to March 2022.

exceeding that in the usual patient with osteoporosis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bone
mineral density (BMD) in hyperthyroid patients in a controlled study.
Patients and Methods. The study group consists of 48 patients with hyperthyroidism who were seen at
Specialized Centre for Endocrinology and Diabetes, and at Rheumatology Clinic and Osteoporosis Clinic
in Baghdad Teaching Hospital. In all patients, measurement of BMD at the lumbar spine (L1-L4) using

Antioxidant Effects of Selenium Nanoparticles Prepared from Eruca Sativa Extract on Ketoconazole –Induced Testicular Oxidative Damage in Male Rats

Background: Recent studies have shown that the anti-fertility effects of Ketoconazole can be minimized by taking an antioxidant nanoparticles based-plant extract in combination with the medication or by taking it after medication. One of the effective methods to improve its medicinal properties and decrease the toxicities of Selenium is by formulating it as nanoparticles. However, this is still a challenging strategy.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of nano selenium, which was prepared from Eruca Sativa extract, on testicular oxidative stress parameters in rats that were treated with ketoconazole. The study will focus on the evaluation of glutathione p

A STUDY OF LEPTIN & LIPID PROFILE IN A SAMPLE OF IRAQI PATIENTS WITH KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS.

Background: New data suggests that joint damage in Knee Osteoarthritis (KOA) may be caused by systemic factors like adipose tissue products; Adipokines, which may provide a
metabolic link between obesity & KOA. Recently, one of the known adipokines named LEPTIN has been linked to KOA because it can be detected in serum & synovial fluid of
patients with KOA.
Objective: To evaluate the contribution of Leptin & serum lipids to the pathophysiology of Osteoarthritis in Iraqi patients with Knee OA.
Subjects& Methods: The study was carried on 90 subjects divided into four groups: Knee Osteoarthritis cases group (n=60). Control group (n=30). Obese subjects group (n=60).
