Analyzing Geothermal Heat Exchangers Using Comsol Non-Isothermal Pipe Flow Model
...Show More Authors

Earth–air heat exchangers (EAHE) hold great promise for reducing typical air conditioning systems’ energy consumption whilst preserving high indoor comfort. The present analyses a 3D model using COMSOL Multiphysics software for a geothermal heat exchanger to examine the thermal behavior along the piping system. The experimental findings of the real EAHE in Baghdad City during January and June are transferred into the nonisothermal pipe flow interface for modeling temperature, velocity and pressure distributions along the piping system. The temperature variation of subsurface soil and the radial temperature distribution around the pipe are modeled into the heat transfer interface.  The magnitude of heat flux is also computed in diffe

Design of an Adaptive PID Neural Controller for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor based on Particle Swarm Optimization
...Show More Authors

A particle swarm optimization algorithm and neural network like self-tuning PID controller for CSTR system is presented. The scheme of the discrete-time PID control structure is based on neural network and tuned the parameters of the PID controller by using a particle swarm optimization PSO technique as a simple and fast training algorithm. The proposed method has advantage that it is not necessary to use a combined structure of identification and decision because it used PSO. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive PID neural control algorithm in terms of minimum tracking error and smoothness control signal obtained for non-linear dynamical CSTR system.

Enhancing Risk Management: Leveraging the Likelihood/Severity Matrix for Effective Risk Assessment and Mitigation in the Electrical and Electronic Sectorx for Effective Risk Assessment and Mitigation in the Electrical and Electronic Sector
...Show More Authors

This paper presents the basic concept of risk and reviews commonly applied tools and techniques for risk assessment. Generally, risk assessment is a completely experiential decision-making process based on experience and knowledge of risk assistants. This paper emphasises one quantitative/qualitative technique, namely the likelihood/severity matrix approach, which aims to direct the organisation’s attention towards risks that have the highest potential to have a negative effect. This paper’s main contribution lies in introducing a proposed model that utilises the likelihood/severity matrix approach to categorise risks into ‘regions’ and subsequently rank them. This process supports risk managers in making informed decisions to re

Numerical Investigation of Transient Heat Conduction through a Thermal Insulation of Temperature Dependant Thermal Properties

The two-dimensional transient heat conduction through a thermal insulation of temperature dependent thermal properties is investigated numerically using the FVM. It is assumed that this insulating material is initially at a uniform temperature. Then, it is suddenly subjected at its inner surface with a step change in temperature and subjected at its outer surface with a natural convection boundary condition associated with a periodic change in ambient temperature and heat flux of solar radiation. Two thermal insulation materials were selected. The fully implicit time scheme is selected to represent the time discretization. The arithmetic mean thermal conductivity is chosen to be the value of the approximated thermal conductivity at the i

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are emerging in various application like military, area monitoring, health monitoring, industry monitoring and many more. The challenges of the successful WSN application are the energy consumption problem. since the small, portable batteries integrated into the sensor chips cannot be re-charged easily from an economical point of view. This work focusses on prolonging the network lifetime of WSNs by reducing and balancing energy consumption during routing process from hop number point of view. In this paper, performance simulation was done between two types of protocols LEACH that uses single hop path and MODLEACH that uses multi hop path by using Intel Care i3 CPU (2.13GHz) laptop with MATLAB (R2014a). Effect Ti/AlTiN Multilayer Coating on the Crater Wear Process of Cutting Tool and Tribological Properties
...Show More Authors

Tool wear is a major problem in machining operations because the resulting material loss gradually changes of the machine tool. There many factors may leads to material loss like; friction, corrosion, and also it’s happened by rubbing during machining processes between the work piece and the tool. Dimensional accuracy of the work piece, and also the surface finish will be reducing by tool wear. It can also increase cutting force. In this study, we focused on the effect of the coating process on crater wear problems. Crater wear is caused by the flow between the chip and the rake face of the tool, whereas flank wear is caused by the contact between the tool and the work piece. In reducing crater wear, aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) u

Comparing with a normal roof (without pipes), the results indicated a significant reduction in energy heat gain which is about 37.8% when the number of pipes per m

Spectrophotometric technique was used to follow up the reaction and the selected wavelength to be followed was 320 nm. The effect of using different concentration of sulphuric acid on the rate of the reaction has been studied a and it was found that the rate decreased with increasing the acid concentration. Classical organic tests was used to identify the product of the oxidation reaction, the product was just bubbles of CO2.

The denoising of a natural image corrupted by Gaussian noise is a problem in signal or image processing.  Much work has been done in the field of wavelet thresholding but most of it was focused on statistical modeling of wavelet coefficients and the optimal choice of thresholds.  This paper describes a new method for the suppression of noise in image by fusing the stationary wavelet denoising technique with adaptive wiener filter. The wiener filter is applied to the reconstructed image for the approximation coefficients only, while the thresholding technique is applied to the details coefficients of the transform, then get the final denoised image is obtained by combining the two results.
