Water Requirement and Water Productivity of Zea mays L. under Different Irrigation Systems in AlQadsia and Babylon Governorates

Two field experiments were conducted at two different texture sites. The first site of the fields of AlMed-hateya Agriculture Division / Babil Governorate. The second site of the fields of Al-Nouriah Research Station / Ministry of Agriculture, the factors of the study in the two sites included several factors. The first factor includes two irrigation systems: sprinkler irrigation and surface irrigation. The second factor is the method of cultivation which includes the method of cultivation with basin and furrowing. The third factor is the type of the cultivated crop which includes a local variety (Fajr 3) and a hybrid variety (Drakma). The actual water consumption for the sprinkler irrigation system reached (587.13 and 637.62) mm season-1 for furrowing cultivation method in Babylon and Al-Qadisiyah, respectively, but it reached (558.38 and 605.42) mm season-1 when using the basin cultivation method in Babylon and Al-Qadisiyah locations, respectively. The water productivity reached (1.99 and 1.56) kg m-3 for the hybrid variety and (1.75 and 1.30) kg m-3 for the local variety when the sprinkler irrigation and the furrow planting at Babylon and Al-Qadisiyah locations, respectively. The results also show that the values of water productivity decreased in the surface irrigation, it reached (1.56 and 1.21) kg m-3 for the hybrid variety and (1.49 and 1.07) kg m-3 for the local variety when the sprinkler irrigation and the furrow planting at Babylon and Al-Qadisiyah locations, respectively.
