Effect of Variety, Gibberellic Acid Concentration and Spraying Duration on Steroidal Saponine Concentration of Trigonella foenum – graecum L.

A biological experiment was conducted in the field of Biology Department-College of Education (Ibn Al-Haitham) University of Baghdad for growing season of (2004-2005), to study the effect of two varieties of the fenugreek plant (Trigonella foenum – graeccum L.) and gibberellic acid concentration (0, 25, 50, 100, 125) part per million and duration of four spraying (15, 20, 25, 30) day determining concentration medicinal active saponine compounds like (Trigonelline, choline, Carpaine and Gentianine).  The experiment was performed according to complete Randomize Complete Blocks Design (RBCD) by three replicate was adopted, means were compared by using the least significant difference at (0.05) probability level. Results showed that the concentration of Gibberellic acid the duration of spraying and the varieties have different effective Steroidal Saponine compounds percentage in the fenugreek plant. The two varieties showed difference in response regarding their content of steroidal saponine for the Indian variety surpassed the local variety in the compounds neotigogenin, smilagenin and yamogenin ; while the local variety surpassed the Indian variety in the seeds content of tigogenin and diosgenin .

Effect Interaction of Gibberellic Acid and Urea Fertilizer on some Growth Characteristic of Fenugreek Plant (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

A biological experiment was conducted to study the effect of different concentrations of gibberellic acid and urea fertilizer and their interactions in some characteristic related to green growth of fenugreek plant (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) in the green house of Department of Biology in College of Education (IbnalHaitham)/Baghdad University for the growth season (20082009) in pots of (5 kgm) soil per pot, and four concentrations of gibberellic acid were used, they are (0,25,50,100) ppm, these concentrations were sprayed after the perfection of  the  fourth leaf for the plant. Moreover, three levels of urea fertilizer were used, they were (0.25, 0.50, 1.00) gm/pot. These concentrations were added as two p

Effect of different concentration of Gibberellic and Proline acid in the growth and production of pea plant Pisum sativum L.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of foliar spraying with gibberellic acid concentrations (0,50,100)mg.L¹ and proline acid concentrations (0, 25, 50)mg.L¹ and their interactions on some growth parameters of pea plant using clay pots in the botanical garden of Biology Department College of Education for pure science Ibn –Al-Haitham ,Baghdad University, for the growing season 2012-2013 the experiment involved the studing of some growth parameters as plant?s height, dry weight, wt. of pods.plant¹, biology yield and the concentration of some major elements (nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium) in plant?s seeds. The experiment was designed according to Completely Randomized Desig(CRD) with three replications. R

Stereological and Histopathological Effects of Trigonella foenum-graecum Seeds on Rabbits Ovary

This study aimed to investigate the impacts of the Trigonella foenum-graecum (T. foenum-graecum) seeds on the female gonad. A total of twenty local rabbits were used in this study; were divided into four groups (5 each): first group (G1) was considered as the control group. The second group (G2), third group (G3) and fourth group (G4) were fed daily1.5%, 3%, and 4.5% of T. foenum-graecum seeds respectively for 60 days (twice daily). At the end of the experiment, the animals were euthanized by diethyl ether (C2H52O). Then the abdomen was incised, and the samples of ovaries were collected and fixed by 10% neutral buffered formalin. The histological assessment was done with a paraffin embedding technique and the histological sections w

Effect of different levels of urea and superphosphate fertilizers on some morphological and physiological characters of fenugreek plant (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

An experiment was conducted using pots (capacity of 4 kg soil/pot) in the glasshouse of Biology Dept. College of Education (Ibn Al-Haitham) University of Baghdad during 2008-2009 growing season, in order to determine the effect of different levels of urea fertilizer (Zero, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 gm/4 kg soil in pot) these equal to (Zero, 100,200,400 kg/ha) and different levels of superphosphate fertilizer (Zero, 0.1, 0.2 gm/4kg soil in pot), these equal to (Zero, 100,200 kg/ha) on some morphological and physiological characteristics of fenugreek plant. This experiment was conducted using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications and the experiment included (36) pots. Results indicated clear increase in all studied characteristics wi

A New Method for the Isolation and Purification of Trigonelline as Hydrochloride from Trigonella foenum-graecum L.

Separation of Trigonelline, the major alkaloid in fenugreek seeds, is difficult because the extract of these seeds usually contains Trigonelline, choline, mucilage, and steroidal saponins, in addition to some other substances. This study amis to isolate the quaternary ammonium alkaloid (Trigonelline) and choline from fenugreek seeds (Trigonella-foenum graecum L.) which have similar physiochemical properties by modifying of the classical method. Seeds were defatted and then extracted with methanol. The presence of alkaloids was detected by using Mayer's and Dragendorff's reagents. In this work, trigonilline was isolated with traces of choline by subsequent processes of purification using analytical and preparative TLC techniques.

Antimicrobial effect of Trigonella foenum graecum Seed Extracts against Tested Bacteria Isolated from Meat and Fish

A qualitative chemical test was performed on functional groups extracted from fenugreek plant and its extracts (aqueous, alcoholic and volatile oil). Results revealed that fenugreek seeds contain the main functional groups, while extracts are varied accorodihg to their content of functional groups qualitatively and quantitively. Moreover, inhibition activity was tested for extracts of fenugreek seeds (aqueous, alcoholic and volatile oil). against gram negative (Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus) by the ager well diffusion method. Data have revealed that inhibition activity was different in accoradance with extract solvent and the tested microorgan. Oil extract (15)%

Study of the effects of Trigonella foenum graecum and Elettaria cardamom against Tribolium Castaneum

Oils were extracted from seeds of Trigonella foenum graecum as well as from seeds of Elettaria cardamomum, then separated and characterized by Gas Chromatography with Mass spectra GC/MC twelve different compounds of Trigonella foenum graecum oil were identified, the highest rate was for the compound 9, 12-Octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z) which was found with rate of 38.97
،%then accompanied with 31.85% of 9-Octadecenoic acid (Z)-, methyl ester.
On other hand fifty four (54) different compounds were separated from fixed oils of Elettaria cardamomum , the highest rate for the compound 3-Cyclohexene-1-methanol, .alpha.,.alpha.,4-trimethyl-, acetate which was 22.88% then the compound Butyl 9,12-octadecadienoate with a rate of 21.22 % .
