The speed, reflection and intensity of waves propagating in flexible tubes with aneurysm and stenosis: Experimental investigation
...Show More Authors

A localized stenosis or aneurysm is a discontinuity that presents the pulse wave produced by the contracting heart with a reflection site. However, neither wave speed ( c) in these discontinuities nor the size of reflection in relation to the size of the discontinuity has been adequately studied before. Therefore, the aim of this work is to study the propagation of waves traversing flexible tubes in the presence of aneurysm and stenosis in vitro. We manufactured different sized four stenosis and four aneurysm silicone sections, connected one at a time to a flexible ‘mother’ tube, at the inlet of which a single semi-sinusoidal wave was generated. Pressure and velocity were measured simultaneously 25 cm downstream the inlet of the respective mother tube. The wave speed was measured using the PU-loop method in the mother tube and within each discontinuity using the foot-to-foot technique. The stenosis and aneurysm dimensions and c were used to determine the reflection coefficient ( R) at each discontinuity. Wave intensity analysis was used to determine the size of the reflected wave. The reflection coefficient increased with the increase and decrease in the size of the aneurysm and stenosis, respectively. c increased and decreased within stenosis and aneurysms, respectively, compared to that of the mother tube. Stenosis and aneurysm induced backward compression and expansion waves, respectively; the size of which was related to the size of the reflection coefficient at each discontinuity, increases with smaller stenosis and larger aneurysms. Wave speed is inversely proportional to the size of the discontinuity, exponentially increases with smaller stenosis and aneurysms and always higher in the stenosis. The size of the compression and expansion reflected wave depends on the size of R, increases with larger aneurysms and smaller stenosis.

Iron Permeable Reactive Barrier for Removal of Lead from Contaminated Groundwater
...Show More Authors

The possibility of using zero-valent iron as permeable reactive barrier in removing lead from a contaminated groundwater was investigated. In the batch tests, the effects of many parameters such as contact time between adsorbate and adsorbent (0-240 min), initial pH of the solution (4-8), sorbent dosage (1-12 g/100 mL), initial metal concentration (50-250 mg/L), and agitation speed
(0-250 rpm) were studied. The results proved that the best values of these parameters achieve the maximum removal efficiency of Pb+2 (=97%) were 2 hr, 5, 5 g/100 mL, 50 mg/L and 200 rpm respectively. The sorption data of Pb+2 ions on the zero-valent iron have been performed well by Langmuir isotherm model in compared with Freundlich model under the studied

Classification of Cardiac Arrhythmia using ID3 Classifier Based on Wavelet Transform
...Show More Authors

Accurate detection of Electro Cardio Graphic (ECG) features is an important demand for medical purposes, therefore an accurate algorithm is required to detect these features. This paper proposes an approach to classify the cardiac arrhythmia from a normal ECG signal based on wavelet decomposition and ID3 classification algorithm. First, ECG signals are denoised using the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and the second step is extract the ECG features from the processed signal. Interactive Dichotomizer 3 (ID3) algorithm is applied to classify the different arrhythmias including normal case. Massachusetts Institute of Technology-Beth Israel Hospital (MIT-BIH) Arrhythmia Database is used to evaluate the ID3 algorithm. The experimental resul

Adsorption of Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride from Aqueous Solution by Iraqi Porcelinaite Adsorbent
...Show More Authors

Pharmaceuticals are widely distributed in different applications and also released into the environment. Adsorption of Ciprofloxacin HCl (CIPH) on Porcelinaite was studied at ambient conditions. The adsorption isotherms can be well described using the Freundlich and Temkin equations. The pH of the solution influences significantly the adsorption capacity of Porcelinaite, the adsorption of CIPH increased from the initial pH 1.3 and then decreased over the pH rang of 3.8-9. The adsorption is sensitive to the change in ionic Strength, which indicate that electrostatic attraction is a significant mechanism for sorption process. The enthalpy change (∆H) for the adsorption of CIPH onto Porcelinaite signifies an endothermic adsorption. The ∆G

A study of some atomic properties for He-like selected ions
...Show More Authors

The atomic properties have been studied for He-like ions (He atom, Li+, Be2+ and B3+ions). These properties included, the atomic form factor f(S), electron density at the nucleus , nuclear magnetic shielding constant and diamagnetic susceptibility ,which are very important in the study of physical properties of the atoms and ions. For these purpose two types of the wave functions applied are used, the Hartree-Fock (HF) waves function (uncorrelated) and the Configuration interaction (CI) wave function (correlated). All the results and the behaviors obtained in this work have been discussed, interpreted and compared with those previously obtained.

HARLIN model for prediction of solar radiation for Baghdad city, Iraq
...Show More Authors

In this study a combination of two basics known methods used to daily prediction of solar insolation in Baghdad city, Iraq, for the first time, the harmonic and the classical linear regression analyses, thus it is called HARLIN model. The resulted prediction data compared with basics data for Baghdad city for two years (2010-2011), where the model showed a great success application in the accurate results, compared with the linear famous and well known model which is used the classical linear Angstrom equations with various formulations in many previous studies.

Spot Welding of Dissimilar Metals Using an Automated Nd:YAG Laser System
...Show More Authors

An assembled pulsed Nd:YAG laser-robot system for spot welding similar and dissimilar metals is presented in this paper. The study evaluates the performance of this system through investigating the possibility and accuracy of executing laser spot welding of 0.2 mm in thickness stainless steel grade AISI302 to 0.5 mm in thickness low carbon steel grade AISI1008. The influence of laser beam parameters (peak power, pulse energy, pulse duration, repetition rate, and focal plane position on the final gained best results are evaluated. Enhancement of the experimental results was carried by a computational simulation using ANSYS FLUENT 6.3 package code.

Calcareous Nannofossils Biostratigraphy of Tanjero Formation at Azmer anticline Northern Iraq
...Show More Authors

Seventy three species of calcareous nannofossils are recorded from the studied section of Tanjero Formation at Azmer anticline, Sulimaniya, Northern Iraq. The studied section reveals four  biozones arranged in an ascending order  from oldest to youngest as follows; Tranolithus phacelosus Interval Biozone (CC23) Part, Rienhardtites lives Interval  Biozone (CC24), Arkhangelskilla cymbiformis Interval Biozone (CC25), and Nephrolithus frequens Rang Biozone (CC26) Part. These biozones are correlated with other calcareous nannofossil biozones of both local and regional sections, leading to conclude a possible age of  Late Campanian- Maastrichtian.

Terrestrial isopods play an important role in the biodegradation of many wastes which gives agreat importance in the nutrient cycles and ecosystem services , therefore this paper aims to use species Orthodillo chiltoni (Vandel, 1973) as a model organism in bioremediation of urban environment with municipal wastes, agricultural fields, parks and markets wastes. Samples of these wastes included potato peels, orange fruit leaves, thyme plant and sawdust, cardboard residues , the experiments were carried out in laboratory condition similar to the living environment of this species in terms of temperature, humidity and intensity lighting. The applied results have shown that
