Genitourinary tract infection in diabetic women: Bacteriological study

Background: The influence of glucose metabolism is seen in many infectious diseases, making  diabetic patients more vulnerable to sepsis and other serious sequelae of bacterial invasion such as UTI and vaginitis.
Patients and method: sixty two patients (women) were suffering from GUTIs consulting Al-Elwya hospital from November- 2009 to March -2010. Two samples were taken from those patients (urine samples and vaginal swabs); these samples were cultured on Blood, Chocolate, and MacConkey's agar for isolation of bacteria.
Results: The study group consists of sixty two women suffering from (GUTI), their ages range from 18-55 years. Thirty eight of them were diabetic women and twenty four of them were non- diabetic women. Twenty two of diabetic women were pregnant and sixteen of them were non- pregnant. Fifteen of non-diabetic women were pregnant and nine of them were non- pregnant.
Conclusion: Diabetes and pregnancy is a significant predisposing factor for GUTIs in women.

Bacterial profile of urinary tract infections in Diabetic postmenopausal women

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common bacterial infection in women in general and in postmenopausal women in particular. Bacteriuria occurs more often in elderly functionally impaired women but in general many of it are asymptomatic. However the risk factors associated with recurrent UTI in elderly women are not widely described.Bacteuria in elderly women is associated with high mortality rates ,however many of thus bacteriuria are asymptomatic (Assel et al.,2009).The belief that diabetes ,a common metabolic disorder is associated with ahigher risk of UTI is widespread, diabetes result in several abnormalities of the host defense system that might result in a higher risk of certain infection.

The association between anemia and urinary tract infection among the pregnant women in Baghdad

Background: Severe anaemia predisposes to infection particularly during pregnancy especially reproductive tract and urinary tract infection .Iron deficiency anemia is an important public
health problem which contributes to morbidity and mortality in pregnant women, even milder anemia can cause urinary tract infection .
Methods: This study was carried out during February to May 2005 among 200 pregnant women during their routine visits to the maternal and child health centers in different parts of Baghdad city , they were inquired carefully about their ages parity , their gestational age and examined physically in addition to testing their blood for lib concentration and urine for presence of bacteruria.

Urinary tract infection in Hemodialysis patients with renal failure

Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common in dialysis patients, are associated with increased rate of complications, and may be difficult to diagnose due to often subclinical presentation.
Objectives: To examine theprevalence of urinary tract infections in hemodialysis patients with renal failure, and to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of pyuria as a screening test in hemodialysis patients.
Patients and Methods: A total of forty hemodialysis patients (27 males and 13 females) with renal failure were selected according to the study criteria. Clean-catch mid-stream urine specimens were obtained from study patients, their urinalysis and bacterial culture were performed according to standard techn

Urinary tract infection and prolonged neonatal jaundice in term infants during the first two months of life: a descriptive study

Background: Several causes stand behind prolonged neonatal Jaundice (Jaundice that persists more than 2 weeks).

Objectives: To find out the frequency of association between Urinary tract infections (UTI) and prolonged neonatal jaundice in term infants during the first two months of life.

Patients and methods: We conducted an observational prospective study in children welfare teaching hospital, Medical City Complex, Baghdad. Fifty term infants, less than two months of age, with clinically evident jaundice that has persisted for more than 14 days of life were enrolled; UTI was confirmed by urine culture and sensitivity. Demographic features, historical characteristics, lab

Assessment of Pregnant Women Knowledge toward Urinary Tract Infection in Primary Health Care Centers at Kirkuk City

Abstract
Objective: To assess pregnant women Knowledge toward Urinary Tract Infection at Kirkuk City.

Methodology: A descriptive and analytical study was conducted from 1st of November 2013 and up to the 19 th of August 2014 in five typical primary health care centers at Kirkuk City. A Probability (randomly sample) was used to select the sample of 180 women aged (15-44) years. A questionnaire format was used as a tool for data collection , content validity of the questionnaire achieved through reviewing it by (24) experts in numerous scientific fields and reliability of the questionnaire was determined through a pilot study. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data.

Urinary Tract Infection Risk Assessment By Non- Thermal Plasma In Iraqis Patients

Background: In the present study used device jet plasma needle with atmospheric pressure which  generates non thermal plasma jet to measure treatment potent with plasma against pathogenic bacteria  founded  in UTI  was inactivated with plasma at 10 sec,

Objective:. This work included the application of the plasma produced from the system in the field of bacterial sterilization , where sample of Gram- negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) were exposed to intervals (1-10)second . Midstream Urine samples swabs were obtained from patients with urinary tract infections.

Type of the study: Cross -sectional study.

Detection of Uropathogens in Urinary Tract Infection and Their Sensitivity to Many Antimicrobial Agents

Urinary tract infections (UTI) are some of the most common infections experienced by humans, exceeded in frequency among ambulatory patient only by respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. It is also the most common cause of nosocomial infection in adults.   A total of three hundred urine sample were collected in age (1-69 years old)   in both gender, with (UTI) symptoms referred to AL-Yarmok Teaching Hospital at Baghdad city during the period from January 2010 till August 2010.  The commonest isolates were Escherichia coli (E.Coli), Proteus mirabilis and Klebsiella pneumoniae (These represented 49.2%, 22 %, and16 % of isolates respectively). The percentage of bacteria incidence in females

Hafnia alvei urinary tract infection

The genus Hafnia, a member of the family Enterobacteriaceae, consists of Gram negative bacteria that are occasionally implicated in both intestinal and extraintestinal infections in human. This genus contains only a single species (Hafnia alvei). Methods The above bacterium was identified from 250 bacterial strains which were isolated from 220 urine samples of patients with urinary tract infection. Results One H. alvei strain was isolated from an elderly patient, and identified by conventional biochemical tests and API20E system at the first time in Iraq. Antimicrobial susceptibility test showed that this strain is sensitive to Cefotaxime, Ciprofluxacine, Chloramphenicol, Doxycycline and Trimethoprim-sulfamethaxzole, while it is resistant t
