Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) causes damaging effects on the cardiac function; these effects can be observed on the diastolic performance of the heart reflected on the change in transmitral blood velocity, the cardiac wall and septum thickness.
Objectives: The present study was to assess the diastolic and systolic cardiac muscle performance for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus compared with control individuals and to evaluate the index of myocardial performance.
Patients and Methods: The study involved 97 patients (35 male and 62 female of average age of 56.2 ±10.755) of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), they were investigated for their left ventricle performance and compared with 51 normal individuals “the control group” (20 male and 31 female of average age of 41.4 ± 13.196). Measurements of isovolumetric contraction time IVCT, ejection time ET, ejection fraction EF%, isovolumetric relaxation time IVRT, the early and late peak velocities E and A of transmitral flow, left ventricle diameter in diastole and systole LVIDs, LVIDs, posterior wall thickness PWTd, and Interventricular septum thickness in diastole IVSTd were measured, and index of myocardial performance IMP was calculated.
Results: Results reveal differences in these parameters for patients group relative to controls, in IVRT, ET, E, A, E/A, EF%, IMP, LVIDs, PWTd and IVSTd all are strongly significant with p value <0.001and for FS% p value = 0.0029 except for IVCT the change was 9.342% with p value 0.188 and the change in LVIDd -3.586%, p value 0.052 were not significant.
Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus can cause a deleterious effect on the myocardium. The effect causes impairment in the cardiac diastolic performance and muscle contractility caused by the damage inflicted by hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). Also results show that IMP is increased in type 2 DM patients. This increase may be an early sign of diabetic cardiomyopathy in diabetic patients.
Background: Various abnormalities in myocardial repolarization assessed by QT variability index (QTVI) in diabetics are associated with high risk to ventricular arrhythmia. The increase in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality appears to relate to the synergism of hyperglycemia with dyslipidemia, hypertension and obesity in addition to disturbed myocardial repolarization.
Objectives: The aim of the present study was to estimate and evaluate an index of myocardial repolarization instability (QTVI) in patients with DM on insulin or oral hypoglycemic drugs in comparison with healthy individuals.
Patients and Methods: The study was conducted on fifty six (56), middle-aged patients with DM of either sex in addition to age-matched healt
Back ground: The association between tumors necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-á)308 polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains controversial .The variation in ethnicity and life style play important role in these conflicting results.
Objective: To investigate association of TNF-á 308 polymorphism with T2DM,TNF level and body mass index in these patients.
Patients and methods: The current case control study included fifty patients with T2DM in addition to twenty five healthy controls. The fasting blood sugar (FBS)and fasting blood (cholesterol, triglyceride) were done by colorimetric methods .The body mass index (BMI) was calculated for each patients and healthy controls. The level TNF-á in serum was measured by ELISA meth
Background: Diabetic foot problems are one of the most important complications of diabetes mellitus
which causing a worldwide high cost morbidity which could be due to poor self-practices.
Objectives: To assess the preventive food care practices among diabetic patients and to find out any
significant association of these practices with selected socio-demographical and diabetic related
characteristics.
Patients and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in Baquba city from the
period of 20th Septembers, 2016 up to 20th March, 2017, by selecting a sample of (120) patients by
using a structured questionnaire, the questionnaire composed of three parts, the first part contains

Diabetes mellitus caused by insulin resistance is prompted by obesity. Neuropeptide Nesfatin-1 was identified in several organs, including the central nervous system and pancreatic islet cells. Nesfatin-1 peptide appears to be involved in hypothalamic circuits that energy homeostasis and control food intake. Adiponectin is a plasma collagen-like protein produced by adipocytes that have been linked to the development of insulin resistance (IR), diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Resistin was first identified as an adipose tissue–specific hormone that was linked to obesity and diabetes. The aim of this study was to estimate the relationship between human serum nesfatin-1, adiponect

Fasting triglycerides-glucose index (TyG index) has been recommended as a useful marker to predict metabolic syndrome. Our study aimed to introduce gender-specific cut-off values of triglycerides- glucose index for diagnosing metabolic syndrome associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The data were collected from Baghdad hospitals between May - December 2019. The number of eligible participants was 424. National cholesterol education program, Adult Treatment Panel III criteria were used to define metabolic syndrome. Measurement of fasting blood glucose, lipid pro

Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine illness, affecting an increasing number of people all over the world. It is caused by a lack, or inadequate synthesis of insulin by the pancreas leading to an increase in blood glucose concentrations. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most strongly linked disease to obesity of all disorders. The number of obesity-related diabetes is predicted to reach 300 million by 2025. The term 'diabesity' was coined as a result of this strong link, therefore, weight loss is seen as a key therapeutic goal in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Liraglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agon

The current investigation aimed to test the alterations of the levels of obestatin hormone, lipid profile and cardiac function markers in relation to hyperglycemia in patients with non-insulin diabetes mellitus. The study included 118 diabetic subjects (56 males, 62 females) and 60 healthy non-diabetic subjects (30 males, 30 females). Diabetic and healthy subjects were age-matched. Serum levels of obestatin, lipid profile markers including total cholesterol (STC), triglycerides (STG), low and high density lipoproteins (LDL-C and HDL-C), as well as cardiac function markers including, creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase enzymes were determined in all subjects. The findings revealed a remarkable decrease in the level of serum obestati

Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of celiac disease in children with type 1 diabetes.
Patients and methods: A total of 152 children with type 1 diabetes attending the Children Welfare Teaching Hospital; 67 boys, 85 girls with mean age of 10.3 year± 3.7 and mean duration of diabetes 3.5years ±2.5, from May 2010 -May 2011 were screened for celiac disease using immunoglobulin A and G tissue trans
