The relationship between obesity and plasma level of factor V and fibrinogen
...Show More Authors

Background:  Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it has an adverse effect on health. . It measured by BMI (body mass index), obesity is considered when the BMI is ≥ 30 kg/m2. It increases the risk of coronary heart disease, Diabetes Mellitus and Cancer. Chronic inflammation and impaired fibrinolysis in obesity may induce thrombosis.

Aim of study: assess the effect of BMI (body mass index) on plasma level of Factor V and fibrinogen in obese and normal weight subjects.

Methods: This study was started on December 2015 and completed on June 2016, and included 51 obese attended alyarmouk Teaching Hospital. As well 25 non-obese subjects, were recruited as a control, age range  from18to 50 years old .The hemostatic parameters done for them included the prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, FV activity, fibrinogen level, and platelet count.

Results: There were insignificant difference in the means of prothrombine time (PT),activated partial thromboplastine time(aPTT), Factor V activity( FV)  and Platelet count (PLT)of obese group compared to control  group with P value (0.63, 0.902, 0.44, 0.484) respectively. There was significant difference in  the mean  of fibrinogen of obese group compared to control  group with P value (0.006).The correlation between BMI and (PT, PLT, FV and fibrinogen)in obese and control study groups were statistically  insignificant with (P > 0.05)  , but a significant positive correlation between BMI and PTT in obese group was found with  (P=0.037). There was a significant negative correlation between FV and PT in obese and control groups (P =0.001).There was insignificant positive correlation between fibrinogen and PT in obese and control groups (P > 0.05).

Conclusions: Significant difference in the mean of plasma level of fibrinogen concentration between obese group and normal weight group was found. Insignificant difference in the means of PT, aPTT, platelet count and FV activity between obese group and normal weight group were found.

Background: Neonatal septicemia is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide especially so in developing countries. To reduce the mortality caused by neonatal septicemia, it became vital to diagnose it as soon as possible and treat with administration of appropriate antibiotics.
Objective: To study the relationship between themicroorganisms isolated from septicemic neonates with place of delivery.
Patients and Methods: Blood sample was obtained from 76 neonates (50 of them are born in Baghdad teaching hospital (Inborn), 26 of the babies are born at home or in Al-Elwya teaching hospital (out born) ,the laboratory diagnosis for the out born patients done in the same hospital(Al-Elwya teaching hospital .The aged of the

Association between serum fructose level and insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: The effect of obesity
...Show More Authors

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women's most prevalent endocrinology condition is a mixture of environmentally and genetically adduced causing PCOS. The relationship between monosaccharide and PCOS is largely unknown.

Objective: This research was designed to investigate the relationship between blood levels of fructose, insulin resistance, and androgen hormone in women with PCOS, and the effect of obesity on the obtained result, as well as to study the efficacy of serum fructose as a biomarker in the diagnosis of PCOS.

Cases and methods: This case-control research study was conducted at the Gynecology Clinic and Infertility Center, in Baghdad Teaching Hospital

Relationship between serum Nesfatin-1, Adiponectin, Resistin Concentration, and Obesity with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
...Show More Authors

Diabetes mellitus caused by insulin resistance is prompted by obesity. Neuropeptide Nesfatin-1 was identified in several organs, including the central nervous system and pancreatic islet cells. Nesfatin-1 peptide appears to be involved in hypothalamic circuits that energy homeostasis and control food intake. Adiponectin is a plasma collagen-like protein produced by adipocytes that have been linked to the development of insulin resistance (IR), diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2), and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Resistin was first identified as an adipose tissue–specific hormone that was linked to obesity and diabetes.  The aim of this study was to estimate the relationship between human serum nesfatin-1, adiponect
