Background: Osteoporosis is a frequent disease that is manifested by reduced in mineral density and raised in fracture risk. Recent studies have indicated that osteoporosis is caused by composite connections among local and systemic regulators of bone cell function.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between interleukin-2, interleukin-4, and some biochemical markers in Iraqi patients with osteoporosis.
Patients and Methods: Forty five osteoporotic patients were incorporated in this study (30 women and 15 men). Serum fasting glucose, lipid profile, alkaline phosphatase activity, calcium, magnesium, interleukin-2, and interleukin-4 were measured in osteoporotic patients and compared them with the control group.
Results: There was a significant increase in serum fasting glucose, lipid profile except high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and serum alkaline phosphatase activity in osteoporotic patients as compared to the control, (P=0.001). Also, there was a significant increase in interleukin-2 and interleukin-4 in osteoporotic patients as compared to the control, (P= 0.01). While there was a decrease in serum calcium and magnesium levels in osteoporotic patients as compared to the control. Also, there was a significant positive correlation between serum alkaline phosphatase activity with interleukin-2 and interleukin-4 levels in osteoporotic patients, (P= 0.01).
Conclusion: Elevated levels of interleukin-2 and interleukin-4 along with some biochemical markers like; serum alkaline phosphatase in osteoporotic patients might include significant functions in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis.
The effect of myeloid leukemia, especially cute myeloid leukemia (AML), has been widely noticed on the parameters of liver and kidney functions and the levels of certain hormones. This study aimed to evaluate a number of biochemical parameters of liver and kidney functions and hormones in Iraqi subjects with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia. Eighty newly diagnosed AML adult patients (40 males and 40 females) and forty healthy individuals (20 males and 20 females) with an age range of 16-75 years were involved in this study during their attendance at the Hematology Department of Baghdad Teaching Hospital/ Medical city in Baghdad province from March 2019 to February 2020. Blood samples were collected from all subjects for

Show MoreAbnormalities in the Lipid and lipoprotein levels are common in the general population and are considered as very important risk- factors for cardiovascular disease .In this context the effect of cholesterol, which is one of the most clinically relevant lipids is very important. Aim of the present study was to determine the levels of GLP-1 and GPCR in non- diabetic dyslipidaemic patients and compare the results with the control group, which may be used as a novel biomarker to predict heart disease in these patients. The study was also aimed to find the relationship between GLP-1 and GPCR with lipid profile and glucagon in the patient group. The study involved 90 non-diabetic dyslipidaemia patients, with 90 healthy controls. The subjects wer

According to the WHO, osteoporosis is a progressive systemic skeletal disorder that decreases bone mass and micro architecture bone tissue, increasing bone fragility and fracture risk. Nervosa damage determines how much a diabetic's body is damaged. Objective: The current work aimed to examines age, BMI, HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, sclerostin, and lipid profiles (TC, TG, HDL-C, VLDL-C, and LDL-C) in Iraqi T2DM menopausal women with /without osteoporosis to detect biomarkers in such condition. Subjects and Methods: 120 subjects were included in this study. They were divided into 3 groups; Group 1 (N = 4

Objectives: The study was a case-control study that designed to assess the level of bone turnover markers (BTMs) among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and to investigate the effect of body weight and diabetic control on the level of bone turnover
Type of the study: Cross- sectional study.
Methods: The present study included 100 postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sixty-six non-diabetic postmenopausal women were enrolled as a control. Fasting b

Cathepsin G was the major target antigen. The present study was to investigate the unknown target antigen of ANCA (Cathapsin G ) in patients with rheumatiod arthritis Objective: This study is to investigate the prevalence of anti-Cathapsin G and rheumatoid factor in Iraqi patients with rheumatiod arthritis.
Patienties&Methods: From1st January until 30 June of 2011 fourty five rheumatiod arthritis patients referred to the immunological department in the teaching laboratory of medical city and twenty five apparently healthy individual used as a control group were investeged to
Fibroblast growth factors-23 (FGF-23) are a class of cell signaling proteins produced by macrophages. They have a range of roles, but they play a particularly important role in the development of animal cells, where they are essential for appropriate growth. Phosphate, which is found in the body as both organic and mineral phosphate, plays crucial roles in cell structure, communication, and metabolism. Most phosphate in the body resides in bone, teeth, and inside cells, with less than 1% circulating in serum. The aim of the study is to evaluate the levels of the Fibroblast Growth Factors-23 and phosphate and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) in acromegaly patients against healthy control. A case control study Fibroblast Growth Fact

Heart failure patients have a higher incidence of renal function test abnormalities than individuals who do not have heart failure disease. Fifty subjects of adults (male) were divided in to two groups, 25 subjects (healthy) as control (group1) and 25 subjects with heart failure (group 2). Our results indicate that serum uric acid, urea, and creatinine values were significantly elevated (P≤0.05) in patients group (2) compared with healthy group (1). The results also showed, the effect of age categories on uric acid blood urea nitrogen and creatinine values (P≤0.05) and there were no si

Antibody-mediated tissue injury might be responsible for tissue injury in AIH therefore; a number of studies have been focused on the immunoglobulines in these patients .The aim of the study is to estimate the level of immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA and IgM ) in different types of Autoimmune hepatitis ( AIH).
Patients and Methods: The study was performed on 73 Iraqi patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), attending the teaching hospital for gastroenterology and liver disease in a p
Endothelin-I (ET-I) is one of the potent vasoconstrictors secreted from endothelial cells when needed. Many studies revealed the elevation of serum ET-I with human diabetes and microangiopathies. Since insulin resistance is a case of mixed diabetic and pre-diabetic cases, many risk factors beyond obesity and inflammation are proposed. The current study aims to demonstrate the association between serum ET-I and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Sera of 73 subjects were enrolled currently (control= 35 subjects, and 38 with T2DM for more than 7 years), aged (40-60) years old, with distinct body mass index (BMI) ≤ 25 for control volunteers and (BMI) ≥ 25 for obesity and diabetes
