...Show More Authors

This study included the collecting of 390 gland toxicity of the Red Wasp Vespa orientalis and 418 gland toxicity of yellow wasp Polistes olivaceaus from different areas of Baghdad city. It was classified depending on taxonomic keys in order to diagnose and identify the general characteristics of each species, and then extract gland toxicity to get poison. The poison was purified by gel filtration throw Sephacryl S-200 obtain three peaks of proteins. The activity of lysis and clotting was estimated for peaks separate P1, P2 and P3 for wasp red toxin, the lysis activity of separate P1 was 98% of the poison origin activity and the clotting time was 47.3 minutes, while when estimating the activity of lysis and clotting for peaks separate P1, P2 and P3 for wasp yellow toxin, the lysis activity of separate P2 was 91% of the poison origin activity and the clotting time was 43.8 minutes. The molecular weight of P1 and P2 wasp was 22387 and 22382 Da respectively by using the gel filtration Sephacryl S-200, while the carbohydrates content were 60.057 and 44.460 mg/ ml respectively, The percentage of iron was 0.88 and 0.44 ppm respectively, the optimum pH of lysis and clotting activity for P1 and P2 was 6.5, and noted that they stable at range 6-7.5 and 5.5 -8 respectively, the optimum temperature of lysis and clotting activity for P1 and P2 was 35oC, and noted that they stable at 35oC for 30 minutes.

The wind atlas analysis and application program, WAsP, is used to assess wind
energy potential، wind climate from geostrophic winds of a given area. In this paper,
metrological data from Ali Algharby station was used to predict the wind resource
and wind turbine energy production at Ali Algharby site.
Data from metrological station was used to draw up observed wind climates at the
anemometer site. Site contour map was digitized using WAsP Map Editortool.
Observed wind climate, digitized contour map, terrain roughness length, obstacle
groups and their porosity were used as input to the WAsP model. Vestas V182, 1.65

Experimental Comparison between WASP and LSASF in Bartlesville Sandstone Reservoir Cores Bearing Heavy Oil
...Show More Authors

Low salinity (LS) water flooding is a promising EOR method which has been examined by many experimental studies and field pilots for a variety of reservoirs and oils. This paper investigates applying LS flooding to a heavy oil. Increasing the LS water temperature improves heavy oil recovery by achieving higher sweep efficiency and improving oil mobility by lowering its viscosity. Steam flooding projects have reported many problems such as steam gravity override, but override can be lessened if the steam is is alternated with hot LS water. In this study, a series of reservoir sandstone cores were obtained from Bartlesville Sandstone (in Eastern Kansas) and aged with heavy crude oil (from the same reservoir) at 95°C for 45 days. Five reservo

Abstract<p>Oriental wasps are scavengers, and they have also represented an enormous issue for beekeepers, they destroy beehives and reduce the flight of bees. In addition, the sting of hornets may cause medical problems, which differ according to the response of the individuals, including severe sensitivity, swelling, and slight pain. This study provides the first molecular phylogeny of the oriental wasp Vespa orientalis L. in Iraq. Mitochondrial DNAs of the 547bp fragment cytochrome oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) area were sequenced and analyzed from 10 wasp specimens collected in the north, middle, and south of Iraq. The presence and prevalence of V. cholerae were investigated in forty five water samples collected from different locations of Tiger River/ Baghdad city. Twenty one isolates were isolated by adopting a simple isolation techniques. The final identification revealed that only three isolates were confirmed as V. cholerae. They were named 1J, 1R and Dial 131 which are all serogrouped as non-O1. Toxin Coregulated Pili (TCP) and heat labile enterotoxin (LT) were determined in only the environmental isolate 1J while non of the isolates produced heat stabile toxin (ST). The purification scheme was improved, few steps were adopted to include back extraction of ammonium sulfate, saturation between 80-20%, desalting through Sephadex G25, and gel filt

HUNTING BEHAVIOR OF THE ORIENTAL HORNET, VESPA ORIENTALIS L., AND DEFENSE BEHAVIOR OF THE HONEY BEE, Apis mellifera L., IN IRAQ
...Show More Authors

When the guard honey bees, Apis mellifera L., form a clump at the hive entrance or on the flight board, the oriental hornet, Vespa orientails L., either creeps toward the clump or hovers over it in order to take a bee. Once the hornet creeps, only few bees facing the hornet become alert, rock their heads and antennae, open their wings, and take a posture of defense. The rest of the clump stays listless without any signal of concern. However, the clump stays dense and the defending bees do not detach themselves neither from the rest of the clump nor from each other. For this reason, it is very difficult for the hornet to grab a bee unless the latter makes a “mistake” by detaching herself from other adjacent bees. If the hornet grabs s
