Synergistic Effect of Linezolid, Tigecycline, and Vancomycin on Staphylococcus Aureus Isolated From Iraqi Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers
...Show More Authors

Ninety nine swabs were collected from patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), all swabs   were cultured on different selective media for screening, 46 isolates confirmed as S. aureus by API staph. The results of antibiotic susceptibility test revealed that all isolates were resistant to metronidazole, 34 isolates were resistant to cefoxitin, ceftriaxone, and meropenim, 23 isolates were resistant to ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin, 17 and 16 isolates were resistant to tetracycline and trimethoprim, respectively; while all isolates were sensitive to tigecycline. The results of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) that carried out by using vancomycin, tigecycline and linezolid for 8 isolates, MIC results were1-2 µg /ml, 0.25-0.5 µg /ml, 4 µg /ml, respectively;  4 isolates were selected according to their aggressive antibiotic resistance to test the antibiotics` combinations effects, the combination of vancomycin/ tigecycline presented promising results against S. aureus infections at low concentrations.

Microorganisms Isolated From Foot Ulcers Infection Of Diabetic Iraqi Patients.
...Show More Authors

Background: - Diabetic foot infections may be classified as superficial or deep. Bacteria are liable to enter any cut or ulcer causing infection. Defect in treatment of infected deep diabetic foot may result in oesteomyelitis, limb loss, and even death.
Methods: - Microorganisms were isolated and identified from both superficial & deep foot ulcers infection of (60) diabetic patients.
Results: - The present results showed that high incidence (30.8%) of Escherichia coli (E-coli) was isolated from dry - superficial foot ulcers followed respectively by Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis). 3.1 % and 15.4% of Proteus mirabilis (P. mirabilis), equal Percentages for Klebsiellae Pneumoniae (K. pneum

Risk factors for occurrence and recurrence of diabetic foot ulcers among Iraqi diabetic patients
...Show More Authors

There are a few studies that discuss the medical causes for diabetic foot (DF) ulcerations in Iraq, one of them in Wasit province. The aim of our study was to analyze the medical, therapeutic, and patient risk factors for developing DF ulcerations among diabetic patients in Baghdad, Iraq.

Incidence of Ciprofloxacin-Resistant of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Iraqi patients
...Show More Authors

The resistance of Staphylococcus aureus to ciprofloxacin has complicated the problem of treating staphylococcal associated infections in which MRSA is the causative agent since ciprofloxacin was the drug of choice to treat such infections. Our study investigated the incidence of Ciprofloxacin resistant S. aureus isolates that were also methicillin resistant among Iraqi patients. The obtained bacterial isolates were tested for Ciprofloxacin resistance using agar dilution method and the sequence of gyrA and parC. The results revealed that about 8% of the isolated MRSA strains were Ciprofloxacin resistant and the resistance was due to mutation in gyrA rather than parC.

Evaluation of Rosmarinus officinalis Leaves Essential Oils Activity Against Vancomycin Intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) Isolated from Baghdad Hospital Patients
...Show More Authors

Rosemary is a well-known aromatic and medicinal plant used to treat various ailments. This study evaluated Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil for its phytochemical and antibacterial properties. The essential oil was analysed by using a gas chromatography-mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) that revealed the common chemicals containing verbenone 36.20% and 1,8-cineol (Eucalyptol) 12.14%. Extracted essential oils were tested for antibacterial activity against vancomycin intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA), a strain of bacteria obtained locally from bacteremia patients. Three isolates were found to be VISA positive using the E-test (strips) and the population analysis profile method (PAP). VISA showed lower resist

Isolation and Identification of Vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
...Show More Authors

Susceptibility of thirty seven clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus to various antibiotics was tested. 100 % of tested isolates were resistant to ampicillin, while the lowest resistance recorded to amikacin 8.10 %. Four of S. aureus isolates showed resistant to vancomycin. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of isolates 33 and 56 for vancomycin was ≥ 32 μg/ml.

The Biological Activity of Eucalyptus rostrata Leaves Extraction against E.coli and Staphylococcus aureus isolated from Iraqi Patients
...Show More Authors

The inhibitory effect of Eucalyptus rostrata leaves extraction was investigated on multiple-antibiotic-resistant pathogenic bacteria (E.coli and S. aureus), isolated from Iraqi patients. The minimum inhibitory concentrations in a final concentration of 10 mg/ml. Tow fold dilutions was done from (12.5- 100) mg/ ml to examine the antibacterial effect of different concentrations of the plant extract on both bacteria. The study results revealed that Eucalyptus rostrata extract has a potential inhibitory effect on both gram negative and gram positive species. The current study supports the traditional approach of using Eucalyptus rostrata leaves extraction in treatment trails against bacterial infections.

Adenosine Deaminase and Guanine Deaminase: The Potential Role in Diabetic Foot Ulcers
...Show More Authors

The present study explored the possible role of adenosine deaminase and guanine deaminase in diabetic foot ulcers which is considered one of the main chronic complications of diabetes mellitus. Serum adenosine deaminase, guanine deaminase, and some biochemical parameters were investigated in 54 patients with diabetic foot ulcers and 40 healthy individuals. According to our findings, adenosine deaminase and guanine deaminase activities are much higher in diabetic foot ulcer patients than in healthy individuals. A strong positive correlation was found between adenosine deaminase and guanine deaminase activities. Adenosine deaminase and guanine deaminase had 100% sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing diabetic foot ulcers, and
