Comparing the Effects of Ethyl Elcoholic and Aquatic Extracts and Alkaline Compounds of Some Plants on the Bioefficacy of Culex pipiens (Diptera:Culicidae)

The results of the present study show the biological effects of ethyl elcoholic and aquatic extracts as well as alkaloids compounds  of Atriplex helmius and Capparis spinosa  roots. The results demonstrated the superiority of the cold aqueous extract of C. capparis at the highest concentration of 20 mg / ml, as the killing rate was 81.16% for the second  larval instar of Cx. pipiens after 72 hours of exposure. While, the killing rate caused by the same treatment was 79.52% for the third larval instar. The results also showed the superiority of the alcoholic extract against C.  spinosa , as the killing rate reached 98.55% for the second larval instar after 72 hours of treatment at a concentration of 20 mg/ml. As for A. halmius extract, the same treatment caused the lowest killing rate of 89.27% for the third instar of Cx. pipiens. The study also showed significant effects of the raw alkaline compounds’ extracts of A. halimus  roots on the killing of non-adult instars of Cx. pipiens L. The highest rate of mortality observed was 88.54% at the highest concentration of 20 mg /ml at the second instar. Also, significant effects of raw alkaline compounds’ extracts of C. spinosa roots were observed. The highest mortality was 69.21% at the highest concentration of 20 mg/ml for the third larval instar,

The Effect of Alcoholic and Aqueous Extract of Piper nigrum on the Larvae of Culex pipiens molestus Forskal (Diptera:Culicidae)

The present study includes the effect of the ethanolic and aqueous extract of Piper nigrum against the third instar of Culex pipiens molestus (Diptera:Culicidae) in different concentrations: 1, 1.5 ppm of ethanolic extracts of Piper nigrum causing 100% mortality of larvae in the second day of treatment, while the concentrations 5% of aqueous extracts of Piper nigrum caused 100% mortality of larvae in the second day of treatment. The concentration 2.5% caused 100% mortality of larvae after four days of treatment. The current study also detected the effect of 0.1% concentration of Piper nigrum aqueous extract. The effect of this concentratio

Histological study of Culex pipiens pipiens larvae and adults infected with Beauveria bassiana

This study aimed to show the histological changes that 0ccured in Culex pipiens pipiens larvae and adults infected with Beauveria bassiana . The 4th instar larvae and adult mosquitoes were infected with B.bassiana in 10-4 spore/ml dilution, after 96 hours histological section was studied showing that the fungi infected all the body parts specially Cuticle , Epiderms, fat bodies and midgut. After 120 hours of exposure to the fungi the insect have a white appearance and covered with a thick coat of hyphea. Thus study shows biological control of B .bassiana on mosquitoes.

The Insecticidal Effects of Nogos and Sumicidin Against Eggs and Larvae of The Mosquito Culex pipiens L.(Diptera: Culicidae)

The  two  i nsecticides  Nogos and  Sumicidin  were  tested  for  their activity  against larvae  and  eggs  of  Culex  pipiens under  laboratory conditi on.

Third  instar  larvae  were  exposed  for  24, 48 and  72.  hrs  to five concentrations  each insecticide  test: 0.0005, 0.005, 0.05, 0.5 and  1.0 ppm. The same concentrations were used to test the eggs hatching.

The  results showed   that Nogos  was more effective  than  Sumicidin. This insecticide (Nogos)  demonstrated  larval  mortal ities (94%) after

Insecticidal Activity of Some Chemicals of Mosquitoes Culex pipiens molestus Forskal

The chemicals materials were used to study the effect of citric acid, detergents, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate on the vitality of the third stage of mosquito Culex pipiens molestus. The highest larvicidal efficacy was established from citric acid solution followed by detergents solution, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate with (LC50) values 2096, 2715, 13930, 13960 ppm respectively. The concentration of 1000 ppm of citric acid showed a fatal effect on the third stage larvae of mosquitoes which gave a mortality percent of 100% on the second day of the treatment. It was followed by the concentrations of 750 ppm and 500 ppm respectively which caused the death of all larvae on the fifth and sixth days respe

Study of the Stimulating and Attractive Factors of Oviposition of Culex pipiens (Diptera; Culicidae) in Different Environments

The study of the chemical and physical factors that induce egg-laying is important for understanding mosquitoes' ecology. These substances may also help assess and control mosquito populations. With this in mind, we have highlighted the attractiveness of Culex pipiens gravid females concerning the containers' color and surface, which has enabled us to show that females of this species are always attracted to large containers of yellow. The ethological tests were made with four biopesticides on the attractiveness of C. pipiens females. It has been observed that the highest densities of the eggs are deposited in the container which contains the biopesticides extracts compared to that which includes the spring wat

Study the Effect of Some Methanolic and Aqueous Traditional Plants Extracts on Probiotic Bacteria

Probiotics mean live microorganisms that have beneficial effects on their host’s health. The purpose of this study was to compare aqueous, methanolic of some traditional plant extracts on the viability of dietary probiotic supplementation [a dietary probiotic (Protexin)]. Also, this study was conducted to evaluate the antibacterial effect of various extracts concentrations from 1.25 to 100 mg/ml of Rosmarinus officinal, Glycyrchiza glabra, Hibiscus sabdriffo, Curcuma longa, Citrus auratifolia swingle, Cinnamomum zeylancium, Urtica dioica, Thymus vulgaris, Punica grantum and Zingiber officinal on activities of probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Streptococcus thermophillus by determining the minimum inhibitory co

Evaluation of the Activity of Some Plants Extracts on Thyroid Gland Regulation in Female Albino Rats

This study sheds light on various drugs of plant origin which have shown action on thyroid and its functioning as well as on the various factors associated with thyroid dysfunction. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine the activity of the aqueous extracts of Fucus vesiculosus, Coleus forskohlii, Curcuma longa L., Rosmarinus officinalis L., Camellia sinensis L. and Melissa officinalis L. in regulation of thyroid hormones in serum taken from rats. Fifty-seven female albino rats were divided into 19 groups, each group with 3 rats, and treated orally with an aqueous plant extract in three different doses, except the control group which was treated with normal saline only. Also, a histological s

Estimation of Vitamin C and the Fructose Levels in Some Medicinal Plants and their Effects on Iron Bioavailability in Rats

Iron deficiency is considered as a common problem facing the general world population. In the current research, experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of aqueous extracts of Acacia senegal (Gum Arabic, GA), Spinacia oleracea (spinach), Zea mays (corn), and Capsicum annuum (red chili pepper) on iron and ferritin levels in rats. Vitamin C and fructose levels were first estimated in these plants by using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that the GA extract contained the highest level of fructose (853 mg.L-1), followed by red chili pepper (635 mg.L-1), corn (521 mg.L-1), and spinach (271 mg.L-1
