Atmospheric Stability and Its Effect on The Polluted Columns of Concentrations in North West of Baghdad City

Atmospheric stability plays the most important role in the transport and dispersion of air pollutants. Different methods are used for stability determination with varying degrees of complexity. Most of these methods are based on the relative magnitude of convective and mechanical turbulence in atmospheric motions, such as Richardson number, Monin-Obukhov length, Pasquill-Gifford stability classification and Pasquill-Turner stability classification. The Pasquill-Turner Method (PTM), which is employed in this study used Observations of wind speed, solar altitude angle and the time of day to classify atmospheric stability with distinguishable indices. As a case study, meteorological data that gathered from European Centre For Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) at latitude 33.750 and longitude 43.870 that Located north west of Baghdad city ( this area consider suburban that a crosses domain wind towards city center) through hours 00,03,06,09,12,15,18,21 from every day in 2010 year . The scheme used two different categories are considered to deduce the pattern of atmospheric stability conditions. First, the annual or total pattern of stability classification is obtained and results show that atmosphere is 54.4 %, 8.7 %, 36.9 %, at stable, neutral and unstable conditions, respectively. It is also observed that days are mostly unstable (61.6%) while nights are mostly stable (94.5%). Second, monthly and seasonal patterns are derived and results indicate that relative frequency RF% of stable conditions decrease during January to June and increase during June to December, while results for unstable conditions are exactly in opposite manner. Autumn is the most stable season with relative frequency of 62.1% for stable condition, whilst, it is 56.2 %, 44.6 % and 54.6% for winter, summer and spring, respectively. Finally, correlation between RF% of stable conditions and NOX, SO2, CO, CH4 columns concentrations in(kg/m2) is achieved and results show correlation between these elements and stability .The important of this study basically located in assessment air quality of Baghdad city and also in urban planning.

A Study of the Effect of the North Atlantic Oscillations with Temperature and Precipitation in Baghdad City

The aim of this research is to study the effects of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on the temperature and precipitation patterns in Baghdad city. Data of the monthly means of the NAO index, the monthlymeans of temperature, and the monthly total of precipitation were analyzed for the period 1900-2008. Non-parametric tests were used to investigate the correlations between these variables. The time series of temperature and precipitation showed no trends. The results indicated that is a slight correlation between the NAO and temperature and precipitation suggesting that NAO has no major effects on the temperature and precipitation patterns in Baghdad city.

Radon concentrations in dwellings of Baghdad city- Iraq

In this study, radon concentrations were measured in dwellings at specified locations in Baghdad city using ionization chamber radon monitor (ALPHA GUARD PQ2000 PRO). The measurements were carried out at different locations of these dwellings (living rooms, bed rooms, bath rooms, and kitchens). The results of the survey showed that the overall minimum, maximum average and mean average radon concentrations in dwellings were 5.77±0.73 Bq/m3, 23.27±13.57 Bq/m3, and 10.67±4.14 Bq/m3 respectively. The lowest average radon was found in (Ameryia) city, while the highest average radon concentration was found in (Kadmiya) city. Also, the results showed that the highest average radon concentration was found in the kitchens, while the lowest ave

Stability and Bifurcation of a Delay Cancer Model in the Polluted Environment

It is well known that the spread of cancer or tumor growth increases in polluted environments. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of the cancer model in the polluted environment is studied taking into consideration the delay in clearance of the environment from their contamination. The set of differential equations that simulates this epidemic model is formulated. The existence, uniqueness, and the bound of the solution are discussed. The local and global stability conditions of disease-free and endemic equilibrium points are investigated. The occurrence of the Hopf bifurcation around the endemic equilibrium point is proved. The stability and direction of the periodic dynamics are studied. Finally, the paper is ended with a numerical simul

Spatial Analysis of Relative Humidity and Its Effect on Baghdad City for The Years 2008, 2013 and 2018

Urbanization phenomenon did expand rapidly in Baghdad-Iraq due to security improvement and the human desire for daily services availability, where reducing the agricultural lands "Greenlands" negatively affected the climate rate. The relationship between urban expansion and relative humidity was studied from 2008 to 2018 using remote sensing data (satellite images of Landsat 5 and Landsat 8) and relative humidity rate data obtained from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). Data were processed and analyzed using ArcGIS v: 10.2. Results showed changes in human activities (land use (LU)) and urban areas, where increasing urbanization declines vegetation and turbulence climate. The study provides a signi

The Effect of North Refineries Company on Soil pollution of Baiji City-Iraq

The average concentrations of heavy metals (Pb, Co, Ni, Cr, Cd and Zn) in soil of North Refineries Company (NRC) at Baiji and around were determined in 29 selected locations using GPS. The pickings up of samples were carried out in three periods in 2012 in January, March and July. The concentration levels of determined heavy metals shows values within or lower than many researchers.
The model of cumulative effect of the heavy metals, which was determined by GIS for the triple sampling periods show distribution of concentration towards wind directions and away from the site of NRC e.g. SE direction. This indicates the meteorological conditions represented by the wind direction and the rainfall, which plays an important role in distribu

Stability analysis of a competitive ecological system in a polluted environment

The interplay of species in a polluted environment is one of the most critical aspects of the ecosystem. This paper explores the dynamics of the two-species Lokta–Volterra competition model. According to the type I functional response, one species is affected by environmental pollution. Whilst the other degrades the toxin according to the type II functional response. All equilibrium points of the system are located, with their local and global stability being assessed. A numerical simulation examination is carried out to confirm the theoretical results. These results illustrate that competition and pollution can significantly change the coexistence and extinction of each species.
