Asthma and obesity are both a major public health problems affecting large numbers of individuals across the globe. Link between obesity and asthma is now considered as a recognized fact, and many epidemiological studies, found that overweight and obese people had a higher chance of developing asthma, with more severe symptoms. Assessment of the relationship between body mass index and asthma control. A cross-sectional study, that included 100 patients diagnosed with asthma, attending the respiratory disease consultatory unit at Baghdad teaching hospital. Body mass index was calculated by (BMI= weight in Kg/Height in m2), and Asthma control was assessed using asthma control test questionnaire forma. Statistical analysis done using, Test of normality, Kruskal Wallis test and Chi square analysis. Only 10% of the studied patients had controlled asthma, while most of the patients (90had uncontrolled asthma, of those 24% have normal body mass index, 30% are overweight, and 36% are obese. There is a significant increase in asthma control test levels as body mass index decrease (P value <0.05). A significant inverse relationship between body mass index and asthma control.
Background: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a common rheumatologic syndrome with multiple systemic manifestations & associated with many diseases. The aim of the study is to assess the relationship between FMS and BMI (Body mass index) in a sample of Iraqi patients.
Patients and Methods: Fifty patients with FMS, 46 (92%) females and 4 (8%) males; their mean age (47.44), and 25 healthy control individuals were studied; 13 (52%) are females and 12 (48%) are males, their mean ages (41.4) years. All FMS features and criteria are studied for patients and control, patients with secondary FMS was excluded. Body mass index (BMI) is determined for both groups.
Results: The ratio between female and male was
Background: There is considerable evidence which associate cardiovascular morbidity and mortality with obesity, however, a direct effect of uncomplicated obesity on cardiac function is not well established.
Objective: To evaluate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and left ventricular structure and function.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on (146) apparently healthy adults from both sexes (85 male and 61 female) aged 20-59 years(36.49±9.92 ). Subjects were grouped according to BMI into1.normal weight group included 47 subjects (BMI=18.5-24.9Kg/m2);2. Overweight group included 43 subjects (BMI=25-29.5 Kg/m2) and 3. obese group included (56) subjects(BMI≥30). Echo
Background:Varicoceles, present in 15% to 20% of men, are the most common abnormal finding among men presenting with infertility, yet controversy exists regarding their etiology. Anecdotal experience suggests that varicoceles are more prevalent in lean men, supporting the "nutcracker" effect of the superior mesenteric artery compressing the left renal vein over the aorta.
Materials and methods: A total of 206 males with varicocele attending the urological out patient clinic were evaluated from their physical screening examinations. All subjects underwent history taking and physical examinations to evaluate for the presence and severity of varicocele ht,weight and BMI, those compared with 206 men without v
Background. Body mass index (BMI) is a person's weight in kilograms (or pounds) divided by the square of height in meters (or feet). Obesity affects a wide spectrum of age groups, from the young to the elderly, and there are several eye diseases related to obesity like diabetic retinopathy, floppy eyelid syndrome, retinal vein occlusion, stroke-related vision loss, age-related macular degeneration, and possibly, refractive errors. Refractive errors (RE) are optical imperfections related to the focusing ability of the eye and are the main cause of visual impairment which may result in missed education and employment opportunities, lower productivity and impaired quality of life. Aim. The study aimed to find an association between bod

The prevalence is 25% worldwide, distributed widely in different populations and regions. The highest rates are reported for the Middle East (32%). Due to modern lifestyles and diet, there has been a persistent increase in the number of NAFLD patients. This increase occurred at the same time where there were also increases in the number of people considered being obese all over the world. By analyzing fatty liver risk factors, studies found that body mass index, one of the most classical epidemiological indexes assessing obesity, was associated with the risk of fatty liver. The aim of this study to demonstrate the association between IL-5 and obesity in asthma development.
Materials & Methods: One hundred and four sera samples for asthma cases have been studied in comparison with 41 non-asthmatic bronchitis as a patient controls beside 30 apparently healthy controls. Cytokine has been estimated using ELISA method in correlation with Body Mass Index (BMI).
Results: This study revealed a significant correlation between IL-5 concentration and BMI (P<0.05), part
The condition of elevated concentrations of triglyceride in the blood is called hypertriglyceridemia, which triggers the onset of some physiological disorder. This study was carried out to find the correlation between body weight and hypertriglyceridemia. Out of 518 cases, 342 individuals were underweight, with body mass index (BMI) values of ≤18, while their mean serum triglyceride level was 172.4 ± 25.2mg/dl. In addition, 99 cases had normal BMI of >18, whereas 60 were overweight (BMI = 25-29), with mean serum triglyceride level of 182.3 ± 15.9. Also, 17 cases were obese (BMI >30), where the mean triglycerid

Obesity is considered the leading cause of morbidity and death in Iraq in 2019. There is scarce research and surveys regarding the relationship between BMI and depression, especially in young Iraqi females.
Objectives: To explore the level of depression among adolescent girls, and to determine its association with Body Mass Index in the studies group.
Methods: Beck’s depression inventory questionnaire was used in 11 high schools for girls that were selected randomly from the schools in Baghdad/ AlKarkh from 1st of January 2023

The presence of poor nutritional status in pulmonary tuberculosis patients has been one of the most important determining factor in recommending adjuvant nutrient therapy to prevent oxidative stress and further complication.
Objective: This study was designed to assess the nutritional status and body mass index of pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
Patients and methods: During the period 1st of June 2010 to 30th of May 2011, a prospective study was done on 60 patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis and 60 controls.
