Climate change significantly affects photovoltaic (PV) energy potential in arid regions. This study quantifies climate change impacts on both monofacial and bifacial PV energy potential across Iraq using Community Climate System Model (CCSM4) projections under Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) 4.5 and RCP8.5 scenarios spanning 2020–2100. Specific mathematical frameworks accounting for thermal and irradiance characteristics were applied across 18 representative regions covering Iraq’s diverse climatic zones, with bifacial systems modeled using dual-surface irradiance capture incorporating ground reflection and thermal dynamics. Results reveal distinct northwest–southeast gradient patterns in bifacial PV potential ranging from 0.267 to 0.302, with Western Anbar demonstrating exceptional climate resilience maintaining peak performance (0.291–0.302) under moderate scenarios, while northern provinces experience 2.5%–4% reductions under high-emission pathways. Under RCP8.5, 45% of Iraq’s territory falls below optimal deployment thresholds by century’s end. Bifacial systems consistently outperform monofacial technology by 19%–22% across all regions and scenarios, with enhanced relative advantages under extreme climate conditions. This represents the first comprehensive bifacial PV climate assessment for Iraq, providing critical evidence for renewable energy planning in climate-sensitive arid regions and supporting technology selection strategies for resilient solar infrastructure development.
The performance of a solar cell under sun radiation is necessary to describe the electrical parameters of the cell. The Prova 200 solar panel analyzer is used for the professional testing of four solar cells at Baghdad climate conditions. Voltage -current characteristics of different area solar cells operated under solar irradiation for testing their quality and determining the optimal operational parameters for maximum electrical output were obtained. A correlation is developed between solar cell efficiency h and the corresponding solar cell parameters; solar irradiance G, maximum power Pmax, and production date P. The average absolute error of the proposed correlation is 5.5% for 40 data points. The results also show th

Show MoreThe world's renewable energy sources have taken on great importance, for its cleanness and its environmental effects as well as being a renewable source, Increased demand for fossil energy sources is also causing global warming and climate change. Iraq is an appropriate area for renewable energy This study shows that renewable alternative energy has not been used sufficiently enough at present. But this energy can play an important role in the future of renewable energy in Iraq. This research aims to study the renewable energy in Iraq (solar energy) and it is appropriate to develop this alternative energy for crude oil, which is characterized by the use of the most appropriate and less economical and more environmentally friendly. The current paper is focused on achieving energy efficiency through utilizing solar energy and conserving energy. This task can be accomplished by implementation the major elements related to energy efficiency in housing design , such as embark on an optimum photovoltaic system orientation to maximize seize solar energy and produce solar electricity. All the precautions were taken to minimizing the consumption of solar energy for providing the suitable air-condition to the inhibitor of the solar house in addition to use of energy effici
Assessment of annual wind energy potential for three selected sites in Iraq has been analyzed in the present work. The wind velocities data from August 2014 to July 2015 were collected from the website of Weather Underground Organization (WUO) at stations elevation (35m, 32m, and 17m) for Baghdad, Najaf, and Kut Al-Hai respectively. Extrapolation of stations elevation and wind velocities was used to estimate wind velocities at (60m, 90m, and 120m). The objectives are to analyze the wind speed data and assess the wind energy potential for wind energy applications. Computer code for MATLAB software has been developed to solve the mathematical model. The results are presented as a monthly and annual average for wind velocities, standard deviat

Show More<span lang="EN-US">Iraqi people have been without energy for nearly two decades, even though their geographic position provides a high intensity of radiation appropriate for the construction of solar plants capable of producing significant quantities of electricity. Also, the annual sunny hours in Iraq are between 3,600 to 4,300 hours which makes it perfect to use the photovoltaics arrays to generate electricity with very high efficiency compared to many countries, especially in Europe. This paper shows the amount of electric energy generated by the meter square of crystalline silicon in the photovoltaic (PV) array that already installed in 18 states in Iraq for each month of the year. The results of the meter-square of PV arr

The purpose of this analysis is to understand the connection structure and the attractiveness of these governorates through examining the flow migration and population densities. Hence, they are classified based on the human migration at a particular period. The mobile phone data of type Call Detailed Records (CDRs) have been observed, which fall in a 6-month period during COVID-19 in the year 2020-2021. So, according to the CDRs nature, the well-known spatiotemporal algorithms: the radiation model and the gravity model were applied to analyze these data, and they are turned out to be comp
