Many pathophysiological processes can affect the pharmacokinetic properties of drugs in people with diabetes. The present study was deigned to evaluate the influence of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the pharmacokinetic parameters of metronidazole administered as single oral dose. Twelve healthy volunteers and twelve diabetic patients were enrolled in the present study. On day 1, a single oral dose of metronidazole 500 mg was administered orally to all participants at 9:00 am after a 10-hour fasting. Over the following 48 hours, blood samples were taken at frequent intervals and serum metronidazole concentrations were measured by a high-performance liquid chromatography method for assessment of pharmacokinetics of metronidazole. The data indicated that maximum serum concentration (Cmax) and Kelim were significantly decreased (P<0.05) in diabetic patients compared with that reported in healthy subjects (25.73% and 31.51% respectively). Meanwhile, the values of time to reach maximum peak (Tmax), AUClast, AUCtotal, and half life (T½) were significantly increased (P<0.05) compared with those reported in healthy subjects (20.69%, 33.65%, 30.13%, and 20.689% respectively). In conclusion, diabetes mellitus affects some of the pharmacokinetics values of orally administered metronidazole.

Show MoreThis research included clinical biochemical study of some important biochemical variations of diabetes patients of type II ( NIDDM ) in comparison with the normal serum of healthy persons (control group ) , aiming to explain the relation between these variations . The following tests were done :FBS,HbA1cTF, LAF Lipid profiles ,Cu, Zn , and Cu/Zn ratio. The results have been constructed by studying the values of the relation between the variations . The relation between TF, LAF, FBS, HbA1c, Cu and CU/ Zn ratio is positive , while the relation between the above mentioned variations and

The polyherbs mixture contains Nigella sativa seeds, Boswellia carterri gum, Citrus aurantifolia fruits, Elettaria cardamomum fruits. Also this study included estimation of some biochemical parameters in the serum Diabetes Mellitus (D.M.) patients-type II and knowing the relationship of these parameters with this disease. The parameters are glucose, cholesterol ,High density , Low density lipoproteins( HDL-C, LDL-C) respectively , Triglycerides TG, urea, total protein , albumin , Alkaline phosphatase ALP,Transaminase GOT, GPT enzymes . The effects of statins on serum lipid levels are well known; however, previous studies did not compare the effects of statins on serum lipid levels in diabetic patients with non-diabetic patients. To investigate the effects of Atorvastatin on serum lipid profiles in hyperlipidemic patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in comparison with hyperlipidemic patients without diabetes. This study was conducted on 33 type 2 diabetic patients & 34 non-diabetic patients; their age range was 40-80 years, all of them were hyperlipidemic, who had been administered 10, 20, & 40 mg daily of Atorvastatin and completed a 6-month foll

The results of the study reveal that Alanine aminopeptidase (AAP) activity of type II diabetes with cardiac disease patients' serum show a high signifiacant increase (p<0.001) compare to normal subject .
Background: Cigarette smoking is the leading avoidable cause of morbidity and mortality in the general population; however its effects on people with diabetes are even more profound. The adipocytokines leptin and adiponectin play an important role in regulating glycemia, lipidemia, endothelial dysfunction, and proinflammatory mechanisms .
Objective: We aimed to investigate the profile of adiponectin and leptin in type 2 diabetic smokers and non- smokers.
Patient and Methods: Ninety overweight males attending the Teaching Laboratories, Medical City were enrolled in this study, they were arranged as 30 diabetics non smoker, 30 diabetics smokers and 3

High glucose levels, in vitro, appear to raise the extent of LDL oxidation, and glycated LDL is more prone to oxidative modification. Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum level of vitamin E and lipid profile in patients with type II DM.Methods: This study involved 28 patients suffering from type II DM diagnosed 1-4 years ago and with age ranged from 17 -60 years old, with different residence around Basra ; In addition to 56 apparently healthy persons matched in age and sex to the patients as a control group. The medical histories were taken and Gene

Show MoreBackground: Patients with type 2 diabetes have an increased prevalence of lipid abnormalities, contributing to their high risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD).Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) is a routinely used marker for long-term glycemic control. In accordance with its function as an indicator for the mean blood glucose level, HbA1c predicts the risk for the development of diabetic complications in diabetic patients[2].Apart from classical risk factors like dyslipidemia, HbA1c has now been regarded as an independent risk factor for (CVD) in subjects with or without diabetes. Objective The aim of this study was to find out association between glycaemic control (HbA1c as a marker) and serum lipid profile in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods

The heterogeneous etiology includes defects either in insulin secretion, or in insulin action, or the both. In addition to the distraction in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Inflammatory reaction that caused by many pro-inflammatory cytokines play a central role in the pathogenicity of T2DM, these cytokines can enhance insulin resistance which led to impaired glucose homeostasis. Subjects: The study included 75 patients (38 males and 37 females) suffering from T2DM with age mean ± SE 52.30 ± 1.60, and 70 individuals as healthy controls (35 males and 35 females) with age mean ± SE 48.88 ± 0.64.
