Anti Obesity and Lipid - Lowering Effect of Lactobacillus Spp. as Probiotic on the Obese Rat.

The effects of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus casi
and Lactobacillus rhomunas on the body weight and lipid metabolism on obese rats
were evaluated. In the body weight, the results showed significant deference
between rat groups, the group that consumed 3 probiotic strains showed reduction in
the body weight with ratio 16.63% while the group consumed 2 probiotic strains
showed decreasing with ratio 17.62% compared with control group which increased
in the body weight.In the effeci of probiotics on lipid metabolisim the results
showed significant deference between rat groups, the group that consumed 3
probiotic strains showed decreasing in the cholesterol with ratio 50.7%, triglyce

The Effect of Lactobacillus gasseri Against Pseudomonas aeruginosa Infection in Mice.

    The effect of local Lactobacillus gasseri filtrate against Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in mice was studied . 0.25 ml of concentrated filtrate Lactobacillus gasseri was injected in intraperitoneally ( I.P.) 5 days before challenge with 0.2 ml  viable  P. aeruginosa ( 10 8  cell/ ml).       Animals were sacrificed after 12 h. from challenge by cutting the femoral artery . Probiotic bacteria using in commercially produced foods are at most members of the genera Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Antimicrobial Effects of Black Tea (Camellia sinensis) on Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Eye Infection

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of black tea on Pseudomonas
aeruginosa isolated from eye infection. One hundred samples (corneal scrapings)
were obtained. Approximately, 77% of the cases were due to contact lens wear
followed by 15 % trauma and 8% with unknown history. The isolates identified as
P. aeruginosa were 30% (23/77 CL) and 25% (2/8 Unknown). On the other hand,
the Kirby-Bauer antibiotic sensitivity assay showed that 100% of the isolates were
sensitive to Neomycin, Gentamicin and Amikacin. While 91.6% were sensitive to
Carbenicillin and Ceftriaxone; 66.6% were sensitive to Cefotaxime and 0% were
sensitive to Tertacycline. Only two isolates were found to be multidrug resistant.

Isolation and antimicrobial resistance of Staphylococcus spp., enteric bacteria and Pseudomonas spp. associated with respiratory tract infections of sheep

Sheep are considered as an important part of livestock in the worldwide, particularly in Iraq, as they provide meat, milk, leather, wool, and manure. The present study aim is isolation and identification of staphylococci, enteric bacteria and Pseudomonas spp. Totally, 115 samples were collected from sheep (100 samples were collected from the nasal cavity of local sheep suffering from respiratory infections, and 15 samples were collected from apparently healthy local sheep). The Antimicrobial Effects of Alcoholic Leaves Extract of Salvia Officinalis Against Multidrug Resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

Two isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated from patients with Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial effect of alcoholic leaves extract of Salvia officinalis on Multidrug resistant (MDR) P. aeruginosa. Using the well diffusion test, the alcoholic leaves extract at 100mg/ml and 200 mg /ml was shown to possess antimicrobial activity against the tested microorganism. Effect of aqueous red cabbage extract on uricase activity isolated from Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Separation of uricase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa was done using (70%) satu-ration ammonium sulphate, and purification of this enzyme was done by ion ex-change chromatography on DEAE- cellulose column and eluted with linear NaCl (0-1M). Partial purified uricase gave an activity of (4.9 u/ml), protein concentration of (0.56 mg/ml), specific activity of (8.75 unit/mg) with purification folds (8.4) and a yield of (48%).
