In linguistics, a binomial pair or binomial is a sequence of two ormore words or phrases belonging to the same syntactic category, having somesemantic relationship and joined by some syntactic devices such as 'and' or 'or'.Examples in English include: 'life and death, 'cease and desist', 'directly orindirectly', etc.Danet (1985:233) points out that "the legal register is striking for its useof elaborate parallel structures". She adds that "binomials expressions are aspecial case of parallelism". Furthermore, Gustafsson (1975:123) writes "in legalEnglish, binomials are 4-5 times more common than in other texts and they arestyle markers in law language". The present study falls into two parts. The first part aims at describingthe features of legal language as being a distinctive language. The legal languageis shown in terms of certain syntactic and semantic aspects, particularly thosewhich exist in binomial expressions. The second part investigates the datacollected from English and Arabic legal documentary texts. Some samples aresyntactically and semantically analyzed and discussed on the basis of theirdistribution. The corpus relied on in this paper consist of two hundred binomialexpressions (one hundred for each language) collected from thirty English legaldocuments and thirty Arabic ones. Those documents are selected from "TheLectric Law Library", (www.lectl.aw.com) and some Arabic texts were takenfrom (The Law of Trading-Baghdad, 1983).It is noted that quite a large number of samples consists of long andcomplex sentences, hence, it is only the part or clause in which the relevantbinomial appears is used in the examples. In addition, "trinomials" (theoccurrence of three connected expressions) are excluded from the present study . a syntactic and semantic study of binomial expressions in english and arabic legal documents.
The determiner phrase is a syntactic category that appears inside the noun phrase and makes it definite or indefinite or quantifies it. The present study has found wide parametric differences between the English and Arabic determiner phrases in terms of the inflectional features, the syntactic distribution of determiners and the word order of the determiner phrase itself. In English, the determiner phrase generally precedes the head noun or its premodifying adjectival phrase, with very few exceptions where some determiners may appear after the head noun. In Arabic, parts of the determiner phrase precede the head noun and parts of it must appear after the head noun or after its postmodifying adjectival phrase creating a discontinu

English language. The study sets out to explore and clarify the types, nature and
structure of disjuncts and conjuncts. It also aims at testing student's performance to
evaluate the use and usage of the disjuncts and conjuncts in their written performance.
Two tests, accordingly, were given to some fifty students of at the Dept. of English, at
the college of languages (third and fourth stages) in the University of Sulaimani. The
hypothesis that the study was based on are those students use disjuncts and conjuncts
hardly enough in their writings and when doing so, they generally tend to stick only to
the most commonly used and familiar o
This research is an attempt to study aspects of syntactic deviation in AbdulWahhab Al-Bayyati with reference to English. It reviews this phenomenon from an extra-linguistic viewpoint. It adopts a functional approach depending on the stipulates of systemic Functional Grammar as developed by M.A.K. Halliday and others adopting this approach. Within related perspective, fairly’s taxonomy (1975) has been chosen to analyze the types of syntactic deviation because it has been found suitable and relevant to describe this phenomenon. The research hypothesizes that syntactic deviation is pervasive in Arabic poetry, in general and in Abdul-Wahhab Al-Bayyati Poetry in specific, and can be analyzed in the light of systemic Functional Grammar

The phonetic replacement is the process of putting a sound or a linguistic
syllable instead of another in one word that results in changing its meaning . It is one
way of vocabulary varionsness and discrimination because replacement among the
sounds of one expression and changing its image lead to change its meaning , and
accordingly , each replaced sound has its own linguistic value that distinguishes it . In
other words , the phonetic replacement is based on system of phonemic change
which is a general phenomenon in all languages . The linguistic system doesn’t stand
straight for word unless it is based on different standards that work on variousness ,
assortment and relating the phonetic change wi

This paper is an attempt to investigate the syntactic and semantic features of the English phrasal verbs. In this paper, phrasal verbs were classified into subgroups according to their syntactic and semantic characteristics. After giving a survey of literature written on the meaning and definition of phrasal verbs, two sections have been devoted to tackle the most important issues in this category of English verbs. Section one sheds light on the basic definitions of the term ‘phrasal verb’ which are, according to the researcher’s point of view, sufficient to cover the area of the study. In addition, it studies the number and the importance of phrasal verbs in English. Section two deals with the syntactic and semantic features of Engli
