Isotopic Study of Springs Near Haditha Dam Western Iraq
...Show More Authors

Stable isotopic technique and hydrochemistry was used in studying the water resources interaction of near Haditha Reservoir area, western Iraq. Throughout the study area, 14 groundwater samples (Bashina, Zwachi springs and Wells), 8 surface water samples from the study area, and 7 spring samples were analyzed for 2H and 18O stable isotopes and hydrochemical analysis. In this study, the temperature, altitude and continental effects on the isotopic composition of rain water in Iraq were studied. The climate of the study area is classified as semi-arid to arid region. The results show a variation in the isotopic values of Haditha reservoir and Euphrates river. This variation is due to the effect of the low surface area and the

Hydrochemical and Isotopic Study of Water Resources in Khan Al-Baghdadi Area, Al- Anbar Province / West of Iraq
...Show More Authors

This hydrochemical study of the surface and groundwater in Khan AL-Baghdadi  area, western Iraq,  included the interpretation of physical, chemical, and biological properties. Water samples were collected from wells (14 samples) and surface water of Euphrates River (6 samples) for the dry and wet periods of October 2018 and April 2019, respectively. The stable isotopes analysis was performed for the dry period only. The surface water samples were characterized by slightly alkaline, fresh, excessively mineralized, Ca-chloride type, and hard to very hard water class. While the groundwater samples were characterized by slightly alkaline, brackish, excessively mineralized, Ca-chloride and Na-Chloride type, and hard to very hard wat

Groundwater Flow-Modeling and Sensitivity Analysis in a Hyper Arid Region
...Show More Authors

Groundwater modelling is particularly challenging in arid regions where limited water recharge is available. A fault zone will add a significant challenge to the modelling process. The Western Desert in Iraq has been chosen to implement the modelling concept and calculate the model sensitivity to the changes in aquifer hydraulic properties and calibration by researching 102 observations and irrigation wells. MODFLOW-NWT, which is a Newtonian formulation for MODFLOW-2005 approaches, have been used in this study. Further, the simulation run has been implemented using the Upstream-Weighting package (UPW) to treat the dry cells. The results show sensitivity to the change of the Kx value for the major groundwater discharge flow. Only abo

Using the Water Quality Index as a Powerful Tool to Assess the Water Quality for Drinking Purposes in Al-Salam, Western Region of Baghdad City, Iraq
...Show More Authors

Background: Tap waters play an important role in fulfilling the people needs for drinking and domestic purposes. Contaminate the tap water with different pollutants has become an issue of great concern for 90% of people who are depended on the tap water as the main source of drinking. Pollutants can make their way easily into the delivering pipes which suffer from the leaking resulting in decreasing the quality of water. Objective: Therefore, assess the water quality for drinking purpose by calculating the water quality index is an important tool to ascertain whether the water is suitable for human consumption or not. Methods: In the present work, the water quality of the Al-Salam, western region of Baghdad city, Iraq was investigated for 7

Stratigraphic and Structural Study of Khlesia Region Using 2D Seismic Data - North Western Iraq
...Show More Authors

This study deals with interpretation of stratigraphic and structural of Khlesia area north-west Iraq in Nineveh province, near the Iraq- Syria border, by using 2D seismic data. Synthetic trace are prepared by using available data of the well (Kh-1) using Geoframe program to define and picking the reflectors on seismic section. These reflectors are: (Within Fatha and Kurra Chine reflectors) representing  Middle Miocene and Late Triassic ages respectively. A listric growth normal fault is affecting the stratigraphic succession, and normal fault as a result of collision of Arabian plate with Eurasian plate. In addition, minor normal faults (Dendritic and Tension) are developed on the listric normal growth fault

Plant Phenology And Itsrelation TO The Cool Semi-Arid Conditions OF Sana'a
...Show More Authors

In the cool semi-arid highland areas of Sana'a, a plant
phonological study of forty two species revealed that there was one
major outburst of plant emergence corresponding with the first period
of the heavy rainfall which take place during March-April. The second
period of heavy rainfall which takes place during July-August shows
moderate effect on emergence and growth.
Plant Species included annuals, biennials and perennials. Perennials
showed
the

growth
forms
hemicryptophytes,
chamaephytes, phanerophytes, and cryptophytes. Most plants where
herbaceous and a few where woody
Different Individuals of the same species could behave as annuals,

The use of water resources in light of the challenges of water security in Iraq
...Show More Authors

Iraq suffers from lack of water resources supply because the headwaters of the rivers located outside its borders and the influence of upstream countries on the quantities of flowing water, in addition to the increase of pressure on available water as a result of population increase and not adopting the principle of rationalization where misuse and wastage and lack of strategic vision to treat and manage water use in accordance with the economic implications fall.  This is reflected fallout on water security and subsequently on national and food security, while the issue of using water resources is development top priority in different countries in the world because of the importance of water effect on the security of indivi

Use of radium in studying water resources in Shanafiya-Samawa areasouth Iraq
...Show More Authors

The water resources, Groundwater and surface water, in Shanafiya – Samawa
area- southern Iraq were investigated using radium-226. The study examines the use
of radium as tracer whether saline surface water (Sawa Lake) seeps and interacts
with water of the Euphrates River and where groundwater interacts with surface
water, Euphrates, Atshan River and Sawa Lake. As well as examine the radiological
doses caused by consumption of these waters. Thirteen water samples were analysis
for radium-226 content by precipitation with barium carrier by using gamma
spectroscopy based on hyper-pure Germanium with efficiency 30%. The result
shows that Sawa Lake contains radium concentration higher than that of
groundwater and
